We stayed in the Kona Wing. That is a two bedroom area with a bathroom separating both bedrooms. There is a queen sized bed in a large room with lots of windows. There are two full sized beds in the other room. The bathroom has a small clawfoot tub with a curtain around it. It is not an ideal way to shower, but it is more than acceptable. The queen sized room has a window air conditioner. The other rooms have fans. Although this is a bed and breakfast, Cherie provides beach towels, coats for the mountain, full use of the kitchen, and a great breakfast of fruits and breads. She is very accommodating. She or one of her friends were usually nearby to answer any questions or to assist. Most importantly is the location. It is the only nicely rated place close to the summit. It is centrally located - the summit is an hour more north, the beach is less than 30 minutes, the aquarium is 30 minutes, ...only the Hana highway's Sacred Gulch is a few hours away. Many places require that shoes are removed before entering. This place provides several chairs and benches on her porch. Thus, making it easy to slip on and off even shoes that need tightened and laced. Overall, we would return again if going to Maui.…
I stayed at Hale Ho'okipa Inn in October 2018, and loved it. The B&B is quaint and charming, and Cherie is lovely. She made me feel right at home. I stayed in the Jasmine room, and it was perfect for my stay. Wish I didn't have to leave!
We mostly picked this place for it's proximity to Haleakala so we could drive up and see the sunrise. However, Cherie and her home are amazing! Each morning we were given fresh fruit and avacado from her garden and she accommodated our gluten-free needs as well! We stayed in the Kona wing which gave us 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. Up country is a very beautiful place and I'm glad that we found this place to spend some of our time in.
We enjoyed Cherie's gracious hospitality (it's in the name!) and fresh fruit every morning. We rented the Kona Wing (my wife, myself, adult grand-daughter) for 5 nights and enjoyed it for proximity to out door activities (zipline, RTH, horse back riding, & ATV and the Crater which we didn't go to) and the grounds are peaceful and relaxing. It was comfortable yet quite different from the resort lifestyle in Lahaina. Makawao has a 3rd Friday town party which she told us about and it was fun with performers and food trucks. Then she mentioned the Saturday morning Farmer's Market (near Long's Drugs). This was great with wonderful array of fresh produce. Thoroughly enjoyable lodging experience.
During our visit to Maui we (couple) stayed here for 3 nights in this little B&B near the town Makawao. We stayed in the Kona Wing and the rooms were big, the bed was good and we had our own bathroom. Cherie (the host) is very nice and helpful with a magnificent garden with a lot of fruit trees and an extremely big and high old tree! Breakfast was very good and we enjoyed the good conversations we had around the table with other people staying here. 10 minutes walk to the downtown of Makawao. 50 minutes drive to Haleakala. Near Paia Town. We enjoyed our stay here and can recommend it! Thank you Cherie!
