The place is good. REALLY centric and well located. Near to a bunch of restaurants and cafes. The vibe is nice. Pretty young and friendly. Also professional. Not getting 5 stars because of two reasons: (1) The towels they gave us were like 10 years old. It was like drying ourselves with threads. (2) The mattress was TERRIBLE. I never complain about mattresses but seems there’s always a first time. My back ached for days after we left. We stayed at room 7.

This hostel is with walking distance of numerous restaurants, convenience stores, bars and Baldwin Beach. Overall, it's a reasonably priced and clean hostel. The front desk staff was nice overall. The other guests were guarded but friendly. The hostel offers free tours most days of the week, which is generous given the high rates for guided tours. If you select this hostel, I do not recommend staying downstairs. The floors are really thin. In spite of quiet hours at night, some guests were doing laundry until midnight (machines near lower level entrance). There were occasionally loud noises, thumps (furniture moving?) and action in the upstairs kitchen. I was awakened often at night during my multi-night stay. When you check-in, ask to see your room before paying. Once you pay, they do not refund for early checkouts, even if requested 3 days in advance.

Absolutely loved this hostel! The staff were friendly and approachable. The atmosphere was great and everyone was super friendly! Air conditioning in the rooms worked great and kept the place cool at night. Hostel was clean and taken care of by staff and visitors. Best part was by far the free tours the hostel offers! We did the Road to Hana and I was amazing! The best deal for a traveller on a budget that doesn’t rent a vehicle. You are able to see many different areas of the island with these tours! Hostel is located about 15 mins from the beach and some shops in Paia. Would stay here again if ever back in Maui!!

*solo female review, stayed mid-August 2021* I consider myself a hostel aficionado - I’ve easily stayed in 50 hostels all over the world. This is among the best of the best. Safe & clean with the BEST staff & guests. The daily tours are fantastic and make for the easiest and cheapest way to see the island. Tours are operating during COVID. Masks worn when inside the hostel or when riding in the tour van, and there are temperature checks before every tour. It’s super easy to get on every tour but the Road to Hana one (just be ready to sign up right when they put up the sign up list - it fills up fast!). Mostly full of 20-something American backpackers (lots of solo women!) - everyone is kind & interested in being social. Not a party hostel, but there’s a hot tub in the courtyard which is the social hub in the evenings. Grocery store down the street makes it easy to save a few bucks on food. The only bummers are that it’s a good 15 minute walk to the nearest beach (and really more like 25 to the more pleasant/less windy beach), and the downstairs girls dorm is super dingy (but who really cares when you’re only in the room to sleep?). 10/10, would stay here again!

I was fortunate enough to be able to bring 11 just graduated high school students to Aloha Surf Hostel!! The chaperones were in ground floor private rooms, the girls were in their own dorm room on the ground floor, and the boys were in their own dorm room on the second floor. The AC in the ground floor rooms was wonderful and the boys stayed cool enough with the fans in the second floor room. We found this hostel to be welcoming and friendly, very clean, and there were plenty of activities for the kids to do on the premises. The kitchen was exceptional, as were the bathrooms, with wonderful rain showers! The proximity to town gave the young adults the freedom to wander into town on their own schedules, which they really enjoyed. Paia is a sweet town and we really enjoyed our time there! On our last day, our flight did not leave until late at night, so we appreciated being able to store our luggage at the hostel until we were ready to leave, and the kids truly enjoyed just hanging out there that afternoon. I would go back to this hostel in a heartbeat and was so impressed by this experience!! The students loved it, too!
