We go to San Francisco once or twice a year and have stayed very often at another boutique hotel. Last year we had a bad experience and decided to try something else. We like the area to the west of Union Square and prefer small boutique hotels or b&bs. We chose the Hotel Rex and loved it. Wonderful location. Terrific...

My family and I travel frequently to San Francisco and are always on the lookout for a comfortable, convenient hotel at a good price. We found it at Hotel Rex, located near Union Square. The staff were very accommodating (they let us check in at 11 am!) and the rooms were pleasant and well equipped. My kids had a double...

Me and my girlfriend stayed in this hotel in December 2010. The biggest advantage is the location, with only 5 minutes to Union Square (shopping), Hilton (conferences) and Market St. (shopping, restaurants). A lot of tourist attractions are also within walking distance, for further ones you can catch the cable car around the corner. The atmosphere of the hotel is...

We stayed at this hotel in December. The hotel is well located. Many cafés ans restaurants available on Sutter street and around. But, the room was cold. We could not adjust the heat in the room because it was a central heat system. On top of that, the water was warm not hot so we could not warm ourselves with a...

We stayed 3 nights at the Hotel Rex in Oct 2010 at the start of a 2 week touring holiday. We had room 602 which is a king room at the back and overlooks an internal square with other buildings/trees, so the traffic noise was just a distant hum, which was great. Perhaps we were lucky with considerate neighbours, but...

We stayed here for two nights in conjunction with my wife's company's holiday party. We had my daughter and a friend of hers, both 12 years old, with us. We all enjoyed it very much. The hotel is funky and small, with a literary theme. There are quotes from famous authors on the stair landings and the bar/restaurant is called...

I was here with my significant other for three nights. The deluxe king room was cozy and the bathroom was adequate. Internet service worked throughout our stay. The showers were nice and hot and the room was cleaned everyday. The decor in the rooms may not be the fanciest or newest but the overall service, helpfulness, and great location made...

Seriously, from the moment one enters, one is welcomed...and from the second visit, one is welcomed by name. It is refurbished, "old San Francisco" in the style of a mansion library. Cozy and warm, evening music in the lobby lounge, coffee in the morning and wine in the evening, barely a block from Union Square, exceptionally good rates and free...

We arrived at the hotel at noon for a two night stay at the end of a tour of California and were pleased that the room was ready and we could check in. It was however quite a small, basic room without a great deal of character and less facilities than other hotels which we have stayed in during out...

My wife and I stayed here for a few days and really enjoyed it. The plus side, it's near everything, very affordable, over a hundred years old with some quirks (which we think is fun). The staff was nice and they have a wine reception every evening. Some of the drawbacks for others might be the small rooms given the...
