We stayed for 4 nights in July at the start of our holiday. We had booked a superior king, which they couldn't give us on the first night as they had a burst pipe, but the situation was handled well and we got into the right room thereafter. Hotel was in good location, close to union square and cable cars....

Lovely comfortable hotel with personal friendly welcome. Ideal location with few minutes walk to downtown. Only downside is they don't serve breakfast but there are plenty of nice places that do on your doorstep.

My partner and I landed in San Fran and went straight to the Rex where we'd booked 4 nights accommodation at the start of our holiday travellling the PCH. Hotel was perfectly situated on the edge of Union Square and just a stone's throw away from the breakfast paradise of Sears (best pancakes in California!). The staff were very friendly...

The hotel is very well located. It is clean and comfortable. Perhaps the only thing to criticise is the bad isolation against the noise: We could hear the traffic and the voices from our 4th floor room. Most of all we will remember Hotel Rex for how Brian Hansen, the Director of Operations, helped us. By checking-out, our rented car...

I stayed at Hotel Rex last week for a few nights of business travel and absolutely adored it. I love older, boutique hotels with character and charm that don't lose site of cleanliness, great service and amenities, and this one had it all. I'm a tough critic, too, because I'm a hotelier myself. The staff was welcoming and helpful. This...

Pros: Great location in Union Square, attentive staff, quirky decor, and most importantly, Max the Pug (really helpful to have a dog to greet you in the lobby when you have pets of your own that you've left back home, as we learned). Hotel was walking distance from Union Square, the trolley stop, lots of shopping, Chinatown, and more. San...

I had a business meeting on Market Street (financial area of SF) and decided upon this hotel. I walked nearly a mile to my meeting from the hotel but it saved me from taking a taxi plus I got some exercise! You could walk right by this hotel without even knowing about its existence. It is very small hotel but...

Stayed at the Rex for the first 4 nights of our west coast honeymoon. Positives - great location by union square, clean rooms with comfotable bed and tidy decor, free wine between 5-6 pm each evening, friendly and very helpful staff at reception. Negatives - no real recognition of our honeymoon, even though they knewvof this from our booking, small...

We stayed 2 nights at the beginning of our trip to San Francisco and we couldn't have asked for a better place to start our experience in California. The staff was superb, especially Zac, who welcomed us at check in. We asked quite a lot of questions and everyone at the desk was knowledgable and very helpful. The room was...
