As I was on my own in San Francisco, I wanted to ensure that I was staying in a safe area with a hotel that had the personal touch, but that didn't break the bank. The Washington Square Inn ticked all these boxes, both on paper and in reality. I was a bit worried about being allocated a room with...

Even though the hotel has an amazing location (middle of Little Italy, lot's of restaurants and fun places) the quality is a far below the price we've paid for the tiny, old and mostly uncomfortable room we stayed in. The room we stayed is very different than what I saw in the photos... Instead of getting a romantic B&B room,...

We stayed there for a night, perfect location amidst Little Italy in a lively lovely neighborhood ... Once you get in, you feel the warmth of the place with a coffee/tea tray & delicious cookies... At 5 pm, they serve wine & cheese.... Friendly staff all around the place... Watch out, no lift. So, if you have a heave suitcase,...

We try to stay at Washington Square Inn every few months, or so. There are about 16 rooms, so we try to stay in a different one each time. The best rooms, to us, are 7 & 8. Both of these "suites" sit in front of the Inn, on the second floor. They both have nice big windows (with seats)...

Pros: Location and that's about it really, its not a hotel its a bed and breakfast Cons: Erm, lots...mainly the staff, well one of them and the breakfast, its not good enough for 2016. Location: Location good for the Wharf Well, its a good location for Fisherman's Wharf. The rooms are tight, space wise, so is the shower. The breakfast...

Very cozy little B&B in a very nice neighborhood. We were worried that street noise would disturb our sleep (and they do provide ear plugs) but it turned out not to be a serious problem. Would gladly stay there again. You can have your breakfast brought to your room, although you do need to decide the night before at what...

A great place to spend a few nights in San Francisco - the Inn has true character, is in a lovely and bustling setting (North Beach is getting kinda cool these days), and the people from reception to housekeepers were super-friendly and helpful. I think this place may be family-run. Breakfast, cookies and wine hour in the lobby was a...

This small boutique hotel is in a fun location in San Francisco, North Beach. It is a bustling neighborhood, not a downtown tourist spot, which makes one feel at home. The hotel's rooms are tiny, with the exception of a few of their "suites", which are pretty much the size of a regular room elsewhere. While it does have some...

We stayed 3 nights there. Lovely place, room beautiful. Everything you need. The location is central, step outside and you are in North Beach with restaurants, bars etc. Buses on the Square to take you anywhere, 15 minutes to the Wharf. Would certainly return.

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
