Had to stay here because at the time it was the cheapest hotel in the Inner Sunset/Haight-Ashbury area. This is the strangest hotel I have ever stayed at, just because of the way it was laid out... There basically is no lobby, and the home-like stairs are right next to the front desk. There are stairs and turns in every...

We stayed at The Carl for one night, booked the biggest room as we needed two separate beds, and we shared one private bathroom. What a strange place this was! The chairs (2) were cloth covered, and were really frightening as they looked as if more than one person had lost their faculties on the seat, gross!, had to place...

Everyone complains about the noise. We had a room on the second floor overlooking the bus stop on Carl St. I found it interesting to watch people coming and going at the bus stop and the sound was simply the sound often found in bustling, vibrant world class cities. The ease of getting around the city by virtue of having...

The staff at the Carl couldn't be nicer and it was ideally situated for us. The Muni street car could take us anywhere we wanted to go. However, that same street car was so noisy especially early in the morning that it made sleeping difficult. Our room faced the street and we needed the window open or it would have...

Stayed here for 2 nights, june 2 & 3. Good price and great location. Property needs updated, doesn't seem like they have put much into the rooms, shower was pretty gross too. No vending machine either would have to walk to walgreens a block or two down if you wanted a drink or snack.

We were staying in San Fran for four nights and looking for a reasonable place to stay, we hit the jackpot. The location could not have been better right on the city transportation line --walking distance to many places to eat and a very safe neighborhood. It was a pleasure to meet and speak with Bill and Ed. Our room...

I was recommended by UCSF on Parnassus St. to stay nearby at the Carl Hotel. It is a very nice, quiet, older building less than 4 blocks from UCSF. It is in a very nice neighborhood. Restaraunts are a few blocks away, and as a single woman I felt very comfortable walking those few blocks alone in the evening. Yes, the...

Pros: This place has a great location, particularly if you have an medical appointment at UCSF. There are tons of restaurants and a couple laundromats nearby. It is clean. Great water pressure in the shower. A stay here provides a unique and memorable experience. If you are low budget and easy going, it would be fine. Cons: The train which...

My boyfriend was in the ICU at UCSF and this hotel was on the list of recommended hotels by UCSF. The first night I was supposed to stay at the hotel but my boyfriend ended up being placed in the ICU and I needed to stay. I called the hotel to cancel and of course I was charges anyways for...
