This is the best hotel I've stayed in for years, and I stay in a lot during business travel. The room was excellent, the breakfast and the staff were brilliant. Would go back again in a second. It had aa classy feel unlike other hotel chains.

Walking 12 blocks to many restaurants on Fillmore ave, walk to Presidio park and overlook to the Bay is only several blocks. My wife and I spend Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. Japan town is 14 blocks. Sandance Movie Thearter is there. The weather was hot, high 80's there is no A.C. but get's cooler at night. Jack is the...

I stayed here for a change from staying downtown. I like the location close to the Presidio. The room was definitely old fashion elegance. I had comment on the breakfast part because I was busy birding at Golden Gate Park. I would suggest this for anybody who enjoys bed and breakfast hotels.

We stayed for two nights and found it to be a perfect base of operations for exploring the city. Old building with beautiful antique furnishings, but the most modern and updated bathroom ever! And the breakfasts..., we ate so much we never needed lunch! The staff was so helpful they even helped me find a great parking spot where I...

We spent a few days in San Francisco for tourism and we choose to stay at the Montecristo BB as we where looking for a 5star experience without the hassle of booking a 5 star hotel. The rooms are what you would expect in a BB: not large but very comfortable. Each has its own personality and they are very...

Overall, we had a great experience staying at the Monte Cristo. This B & B is an older home that has had many renovations. Most recently the bathrooms have been completely updated to display a modern look. Ours had ample counter space and an amazing shower. (However, I'd suggest that the mirror lighting could be a little brighter.) Although the...

We stayed here as part of our trip up the CA coast. It was not only beautiful, but had a fantastic breakfast and one of the most beautiful bathrooms we've ever seen in a hotel! (yes, we loved the bathroom!) Only slight down side is the room was a little stuffy (we used the portable fan that was provided in...

I can't compliment Jack who manages (perhaps owns - not sure?) this hotel enough. We chose the hotel primarily as it was small (11 rooms I think) and I needed some packages to be delivered in advance of stay. Jack was great on the email confirming they could take delivery, and they were put in our room for arrival. After...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
If the walls of the Monte Cristo could talk, what stories they could tell, for this remarkable building has been a part of San Francisco since 1875. When the great fire swept the city after the 1906 earthquake, homes were put to the torch on Van Ness Avenue to create a firebreak, and the 'Saloon' not only survived, it served as a refuge for the newly post-quake homeless. This European-style B&B is convenient to the entire city and is at the junction of three great neighborhoods, Presidio Heights, Pacific Heights, and Laurel Heights. It is in one of the cleanest neighborhoods in San Francisco with abundant street parking. It is only two blocks to the elegantly restored Victorian shops, Zagat-rated restaurants and antique stores on Sacramento Street. It's within walking distance to shopping on Union Street and Fillmore Street. ... more   less
