My 20-year-old daughter and I stayed at the Parsonage for two nights. Our hosts were wonderful, as was their able assistant, Pilar, a Portugese Water Dog. The neighborhood felt very safe and comfortable for two women traveling alone. There is a bus stop across the street and a streetcar stop two short blocks away which made traveling around the city...

The Parsonage was the perfect place for us to rest at night and feast every breakfast. Joan and John made us feel very welcome. Every morning we awoke to the smell of melted butter and fresh coffee. The breakfast menu varied from day to day. Each one surpassed the last. Our favorite breakfasts were the sour dough waffles with rasberries...

I decided to book the Parsonage after reading reviews on Tripadvisor. As a lone traveller I was a bit apprehensive as I had never travelled to the USA on my own, however once I got there all that flew out of the window! An amazing guy I know, knew the area, and so took me there. I LOVED it at...

My wife and I were very satisfied with our stay in The Parsonage. It was the right place for us. We highly reccommend it and expect, ourselves, to stay there again. The building is an historic San Franciscan victorian which was built in 1883 and owned by one family for 100 years. Our hosts Joan Hull and John Phillips, who...

My wife and I decided to take a leap of faith and stay at a B and B for a romantic weekend instead of staying at a chain hotel. It was an excellent decision! John and Joan were fabulous hosts. It really felt like we were a guest in there home rather than staying at hotel for a night. The...

We (11 friends from high school--Class of 1960) chose The Parsonage for a second time for our annual get together. This Victorian home is a treasure. Morning starts with a delicious, gourmet breakfast. It's a museum with wonderful furniture and art. Bottom line--all of your senses will be treated to a wonderful experience at this San Francisco treasure. Joan and...

Arriving in San Francisco for the last three days of a very successful two week California vacation, our expectations of The Parsonage were high. They did not disappoint. The beautiful Victorian (in a great neighbourhood called Hayes Valley) is run by two well travelled and very charming hosts (Joan and John). The room we stayed in was spacious and beautifully...

Recently had my third stay at The Parsonage, and I look forward to the next time. Joan and John take exquisite care top to bottom, from the aesthetic pleasures of artwork, fine linens and bathrobes, pitch-perfect morning coffee, and the freshest breakfast eggs! Joan also cheerfully provided assistance with recommending car service from the airport and late hour neighborhood restaurant...

John and Joan are generous hosts with a beautiful home, converted into an inn with added character. If that sounds slightly quirky, so it should, with the best of classical San Francisco taste, just like their breakfasts, which deserve a separate write-up by a foodie. I was visiting on business, but their inn put me in the mood for taking...

We stayed at this beautiful B&B for four nights. The house is magnificent and old with all sorts of history. It is very well cared for and is in a great location. Our hosts are just an adorable couple and they are pretty well always there if you require any information or help about where to go and what to...

Thanks so much for your kind words. While some street noise is inevitable -- the price we pay for such a central location in a great transportation hub. For your next visit... please know that we are putting in double-pane windows as we are able and that the bus route is being changed. We expect that this will reduce the...

Staying in Hayes Valley

Neighbourhood Profile
Hayes Valley
Chock full of designer boutiques, art galleries, funky shoe stores, and great restaurants, it’s hard to imagine Hayes Valley once languished in the shadow of a major freeway. Its removal allowed for the creation of an attractive boulevard on Octavia Street with a community park at its center and dozens of trendy businesses to satisfy visitors looking for a stylish respite.
