Our stay was for 8 nights so we really got to know the hotel. Location is fantastic. You can walk to Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf and Union Square is only about 2 1/2 blocks away. Rooms are on the small side but the beds were comfortable. No air conditioning but at this time of year, you don’t need it. The hotel was clean although furniture needs recovering in the lobby and in the lounge room. The continental breakfast was adequate. It consisted of mini croissants, jam, butter, muffins, filled pastries, 2 cereals, bananas, apples and grapes, milk and coffee. I think they should offer a toaster, bread and peanut butter which would be more economical for the hotel but a little less sweet for the guests. The mini bar was an honour bar so the hotel relies on its guests to remember what they consumed. Items were very reasonably priced. The Whitehorse Pub opens at 5:00 pm and makes excellent food at a decent price. Overall a great stay.

Good size room with soft double beds. Bathroom was basic, conditioner was lovely and toiletries replaced daily. Loads of towels, spare blankets etc. We were able to put our own bits in the fridge. Our room was next to the lift, we could hear it from the bathroom but not the bedroom so not a problem. Not a lot of hanging space but we didn’t use it at all. Hotel was a short walk from Powell station, all uphill. We were able to walk to Fisherman’s Wharf and Oracle Park, Union Square and Macey’s was only a few minutes walk away. The breakfast was a bit hit and miss. The attached bar was very reasonably priced and food portions were enormous. Staff were all very friendly and helpful.

I stayed here a short time in February 2020. Was very impressed with the cleanliness and how well kept the hotel was. It's has an old fasion appearance and quietness that's very appealing. Staff as a rule is very nice and helpful. One member of the staff, I overheard saying, " I don't know if I'd let that old man stay here", or words to that effect, as I went to my room.

The room used proximity key card which was pleasant to use. the room was extremely clean and well kept. That alone for an older hotel was impressive. On the down side, there was no microwave, at least in my room. The somewhat small TV, had grainy / fuzzy picture. You hear people outside a little and doors being slammed, but for the most part it was quiet.

They offer a shuttle service, through a private company for about $19 total. Because I didn't have to walk to the BART, I took their service. The shuttle, van, had two people in it, when it arrived no problem. But the van was older and just kind of rickety, didn't offer a smooth ride at all, ride was bumpy and unpleasant. A bit better than riding the BART. Driver was very cordial. You pay him the finished balance of the shuttle ride. Drops you off directly in front of your airline.

I would stay here again because of the price, but if a similar hotel with a microwave were available, and as centric, I would move.

Its on a slight hill but not steep at all.

I admit I booked this place because of the price and location. Hotel prices are obscene in SF so I based my expectations on that. There seemed to be a fair amount of negative reviews( some really nitpicking) but I was only going to be there for two nights so thought I could put up with anything
We arrived at 1245 and were able to check in by a very friendly receptionist
Our room was great. Clean comfortable. Looked to be updated. Sorry I didn’t take a picture though .I loved the pillows and bed but I do like to sleep soft. I requested a quiet room and got just that- room 612, down the hall from the elevator and facing a courtyard
It had a TV which I didn’t watch( who watches TV when on vacation in SF???) USB charger on the bedside table, nice towels . Who needs more than two for two people???? That’s pretty standard
A mini bar with unbelievable prices. The Diet Pepsi was cheaper than street prices($1.25) as were the beer wine and assorted drinks so no need to stock up . My only quibble is I wish housekeeping had replaced what we drank. I think you have to ask which is odd

You had to ask for a hairdryer but it was a good one and no big deal. I’d rather have that than those pathetic ones attached to the wall
It’s an old historic building so I will give it leeway if it’s not as fancy as a modern Marriott or Westin

Breakfast was fine- do people expect eggs Benedict for the price? The coffee was pretty good, there was a huge selection of pastries at 0830 when I went down as well as apples, grapes, cold cereals and milk
If that doesn’t suit someone , since we are not in the middle of a food desert you can get a good reasonably priced breakfast at a good nearby diner or even cheaper at a very nice Mc Donald’s a quick walk down the street

Loved having the pub next door. They open at 5pm and serve decent well priced food. The wings were good. And they have complimentary
Popcorn and assorted salty snacks to go along with your drinks
A decent Italian restaurant is right next door and they give a 10% discount if you are staying in the hotel
The location as perfect for us since the purpose of our trip was to see the Harry Potter play and the Curran theater was a short walk away
All in all a great weekend trip and I would most definitely stay here again

Stayed at this hotel for approximately seven nights. The location is great, its conveniently located on Sutter Street with many restaurants, fast food places, and stores nearby. Nearest MUNI station is about an eight minute walk away at Union Square, and Chinatown is not very far. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful whenever I spoke to them. They stored my luggage for a few hours after checking out which I appreciated. San Francisco hotels are known to be very expensive so if you want something fancy, you better be willing to pay up. But if you're not planning on spending a lot of time in your room then this place is sufficient. Like I wrote in the title, its good for the price but you shouldn't expect a whole lot. You get what you pay for.

I had made a booking with Hotel Amari for 8th December for 1 night stay as my friend, Saar Kashyap and I had to take a Yosemite trip the next day on 9th December. After arrival at the hotel they took a mandatory $250 from my credit card as a deposit which they said will be returned on 9th December immediately after checkout. After the money was debited the front desk girl was not ready to give me a receipt of the deposit. She tried to manipulate me by saying that the receipt will be available online in my inbox. After having a lot of logical discussions she agreed to give me a receipt.

We faced other amenities related issues in the hotel which I will skip here..

Next day we had to check out early in the morning at 7.00am and there was another staff member (named D. Patel) and he said the amount will reflect in a day(please note this was a false information given).
After a day on 10th December, we called them asking about deposit money and the front desk person said it will take 2-3 business days(please note the misinformation from 2 different people). After 3 days we again called and the executive in the front desk said 4-5 business days(another piece of information that does not match with any executives).
At the end I asked them to show proof in their account statement or transaction ID that they have initiated the refund. Ever since then they could not produce any proof. I talked to the general manager of the property, Ken Patel and his behaviour was also the same. He was very rude and he said he can't share the transaction details for security reasons. He is such an illiterate that he can’t right an proper. A transaction details is a standard tracking information used by banks to check any transactions globally. In addition to that the GM also informed me that my card which was a forex card is a debit card and it will take 30 working days. Please note that they did not mention anything such during the booking or when we were checkin in. On their website, it is mentioned as 7 days.
By not sharing transaction ID they proved that they did not reversed the money. I still did not get the refund and my bank can’t help as I don’t have transaction details.
Avoid going to this hotel because the standard rule of deposit fee is per day of stay basis and it varies between 45 to 60$ per day. Please be aware. I feel ashamed to say that an Indian has cheated me.

To begin, the Amari staff were very friendly and helpful. Reception area is clean and good seating. Elevator works reliably, although avoid any room adjacent to it if you are a light sleeper, as it can rumble lustily as it moves. Room sizes were adequate and not microscopic. Furnishings modern and in good order, though my mattress was a bit floppy (hopefully these will be replaced soon). Bathroom good size and all fixtures worked properly (Note that this is an older building with galvanized iron potable water plumbing—so the first few seconds of my water were a bit rusty, but soon cleared up). No grab bars in tub/shower, but the bottom was textured which helps avoid slipping. TV reception was a problem: a few of the channels came in quite well, but most of the higher numbered channels looked like fractals and sounded like bad techno (they may be splitting signal into too many rooms). Window worked for fresh air ventilation (no AC); heat (which I did not need) is steam radiator. Carpets are thin and worn in places but seemed recently cleaned—these should be replaced with thicker pad and carpet or wood flooring. Walls were clean and free of marks. Apart from elevator noise, Amari was quiet at night. No restaurant or food options on premises, but a mini fridge in my room. The “Chesty Puller” restaurant is right next door at the US Marine Foundation Hotel and serves good grub with a spectacular view of the city. Sutter St is on the #2 Muni bus line (one way from downtown). To go toward downtown, walk 1 block south to Post St for the #2 toward Financial District and Embarcadero. The Mason streetcar line is 1/2 block east on Sutter—it will get you to Cannery, Buena Vista, Ghirardelli Square, Maritime Park, and west end of Fishermen’s Wharf district. All in all, very serviceable property without unneeded bells and whistles. Value will be better is they attend to some of the needed improvements I’ve noted here.

Stayed here many times in the past when it was the Beresford hotel. Surprised at the low rate for a June stay and now I know why. The place has deteriorated and hasn’t had any updates since when I used to stay. Front door is locked and you need to be buzzed in. The hotel website advertises hot breakfast but that is not the case. Tv channels were minimal and our tv had an issue with the screen color. Housekeeping and front desk were poor, each day asked about the room getting cleaned while we were out and about. One day we were out by 1130am to go to a giants baseball game, returned around 5 and the room was barely being cleaned! At check out asked about bags being stored and was told that wasn’t possible even though there were plenty of bags behind the front desk and I had seen other people do this on previous days.

Very poor service the room was dirty the hotel in a bad area The room was smelly but staff refused to even inspect. Had to keep windows open for the whole stay and the street was very noisy with homeless people fighting outside. They have still not returned the damages deposit promptly although no damage caused and from the outset the room was in a very down at heel, rough state.

This hotel is conveniently located on Sutter St. The hotel changed management 3-4 months ago. As such, the hotel needs more time to make a smooth transition. We booked a room with twin beds. We arrived early and the front desk clerk said he would look for a room which was ready, When we went up to the room, we found that it was not ready so another room had to be found. The hotel said that it would accept AAA card for a discount. There was a sign outside the hotel which indicated that AAA card would be accepted but that was not the case. I was told that the sign had not been removed yet. In spite of all of this, the front desk staff were very helpful and tried to be as accommodating as possible.

I don't remember the time but the breakfast is not great. It is held in a bar next door and is a little weird. We went out for breakfast after.

Usually just fruit and muffins, juice and coffee. Worked for me! There is a Walgreens a block away that has a few basics, and Trader Joe’s not too far away. Food Court downstairs in Macy’s Union Square has quite a few low cost options for lunch.
