This little hotel on Sutter is close to shopping and the theater district. It has "character," which means that the rooms are small and the place is old, but it's still cool. There is a definite international flavor to the clientele-- I've met people from all over the world there. As noted, the valet parking is expensive, but you can...

Hotel Carlton was a great stay. The staff was very friendly and funny, they made every interaction easy and pleasurable. The room was clean and quiet and fit our needs perfectly. Loved the proximity to nightlife and eating. Would definitely stay here again.

Hotel was nice and clean. Valet parking is expensive. Staff is very friendly. Next time I would choose a hotel more closer to Union Square if you are a tourist. You need 10-15 minutes walk to the hotel from Union Square. Hotel is also close to not-so-nice neighbourhood area Tenderloin (just 2-3 blocks away) which makes it a bit uncomfortable...

Spent 4 nights here in August 2011. Really good choice as a base to explore San Fransisco, within walking distance of Union Square and most other sites resonably accessible. Nice sized room with character. Wine hour is good fun and good bar next door.

The staff is EXCELLENT. They are so helpful, friendly, and funny. Thank you so much to everyone of them. I stayed in a corner room on the 7th floor and it was perfect for us. The room was very clean and comfortable. I am a light sleeper and did have some problem with light coming through the blinds and various...

If you are tossing up between staying somewhere at Fishermans Wharf or here, stay here! We are so glad we didn't stay at Fishermans Wharf - way too touristy and misses the point of San Fran. This place felt great to stay at, easy to get around using public transport, fab little bar serving meals late next door. Only complaint...

Excellent Service throughout the entire stay - from start to finish. We had our flights cancelled due to Hurricaine Irene and the hotel kindly put us up for 2 extra nights at a fair rate. Every member of staff we met was so friendly and helpful n made u feel right at home and safe. One fo the front of...

The Carlton has a good location, it's only about a 10 minute walk to Union Square. The staff are very friendly, the room was spotless, there's free wifi - all good things, however the whole feeling of the hotel is just ok. There's no fridge in the room, and the walls are paper thin, so if you're a light sleeper...

We came here as the start of are road trip across california/Nevada and from as we stepped in the lobby after a 12 hour flight we felt right at home. The concierage was friendly and cracked a few jokes. Although our room wasn't ready when we arrived we were perfectly content sitting in a comfortable and warm lobby styled with...

Hip little hotel right in the middle of the business district. Rooms were clean and well appointed. The staff was young and friendly. Don't remember if they had room service or a restaurant on site. After all who wants to eat in their room in San Francisco.
