We arrived on 1 Feb 2023 after a 15-hour flight. My wife was feeling terribly unwell after such a long haul flight. What she needed was a hot shower and a good rest to recharge. However, we were early. We reached the hotel at 10am but official check in the was 3pm. I was thinking how my wife would be able to endure any longer waiting for our room. Upon check in, the front desk was so nice as to arrange our room immediately without even putting a request to him. Not only that, we were upgraded to a junior suite! The room is fantastic! The hotel location is superb. Right smack at the centre of Union Square and the Powell Hyde cable car line is just across the street. Thank you Handlery Union Square for making our stay at your property such a comfortable one.
A lovely hotel just a few steps from Union Square. On arrival the staff greeted us cheerily , we needed to leave our luggage to take our car back this was handled swiftly by the young lady on reception & the security gentleman. Our room was a premier king with a balcony looking onto O' Farrell st which was lovely we had a beautiful sunny room with a sofa & chair to relax. I could see the cable cars going up Powell st from the balcony. The room was quiet (6th floor) . The bed was comfortable & it was nice to have a dressing area as well as a good bathroom with good pressure on the shower & instant hot water. All in all a very good hotel deserves more than 3 stars.
What a little gem, ideally situated for a visit to San Francisco, very clean and lovely staff. But as what seems to have happened in many hotels there’s no restaurant for breakfast… we were given a 20% off voucher for a cafe round the corner but it was obviously very busy and you have to queue, but we didn’t have to wait to long for a table and the food was delicious
What a wonderful, traditional hotel in the heart of Union Square! A perfect end to our Cali road trip for our honeymoon. The hotel room was perfect, we informed the manager that we were on honeymoon and we’re welcomed by a room upgrade and a bottle of champagne. The room was lovely, very spacious. Great facilities and the most comfy bed we stayed in during our 3 week trip. The hotel is in a prime location and although it’s a walk from Pier33 you feel that you are in the traditional part of San Fran but safe.
Location is great. Central to everything in San Francisco. Rooms in the historic part of the hotel looked a little outdated and would benefit from a redecoration, but comfortable overall and clean. A good value for the money by San Francisco standards.
In these times of comparatively weak Euro it is relieving to find a hotel in downtown SF below 200$ per night... some of the rooms are quite small but mine was gigantic, and so was the bed. Quick check-in and check-out, no comparison with large (and more expensive) hotels were you have to queue after spending almost one day on the plane.... Things to improve: mainly the air heating, very noisy and uneven, parts of the room were tropics, parts North Pole (well, not really). Also, put some extra heating boost in the bathroom that was a little icy in the morning.
We paid for an upgrade room and were not disaapointed. The room we had was excellent with a very useful veraranda. Soem people may prefer access to the heated pool. Decoration is a little dated for my taste and very American in style but it was very clean with excellent maid service. Excellent sized room made even better by having a dressing area and good sized closet. Whilstno bar or cafe of it's own the 20% voucher for a nearby diner proved very useful. (There are other very good diners nearby as well). Plenty of towels, excellent bed line and very comfortable (HUGE) bed. Blackout facilites excellent and barely any noise from the traffic outside when patio doors were closed. Being in the "newer" part did involve a fairly long walk to get to the room but it was only a problem when we arrived and had to negoiate the stairs (with our cases) before getting to an elevator. (We found a better way when we left with our cases). Conceirge were always smiling and welcoming whilst Reception staff tended to ignore our comings and goings - even when they were not even busy. VERY convienient location for all transport links and shoping. Would definately stay again.…
First the plus points. After a night flight with no sleep achieved we were grateful for an early check in allowing us to freshen up and make the most if our one day in San Fransisco. The room was ok with everything you needed although some things were dated. Not a problem. Now for the downside which was really unacceptable for us. As stated we hadn't slept the night before so we crashed out at 8pm as we had an early flight back to the UK in the morning. At 10pm we were woken by a phone call from reception stating that carpet cleaning was going to commence outside our bedroom door on a few minutes. REALLY who cleans carpets at 10pm at night when guests are sleeping? Why wasn't this mentioned at check in? I didn't take this in until the vibration and noise kicked in. Straight on the phone to reception who said we could change rooms. Not an option for us as we were already in bed an unpacked. What I cannot understand is why they would do maintenance at night. Totally unacceptable and ruined our night's sleep.…
We stayed here for 5nights the first wk in November. I had emailed in advance for recommendations on where to eat for a special occasion as it was our Anniversary during our stay & it was our first time in San Francisco. The hotel emailed back with the email address for concierge to get recommendations on restaurants & had kindly upgraded us to a suite. On arrival check in was quick & we were given a voucher for 20% off at Cafe Mason just around the corner as their restaurant wasn't open (can highly recommend breakfast there but that's another review). We were on the 7th floor in a corner suite facing the pool with no rooms either side....bonus! On entering our room there was a bottle of bubbly & a goodie bag a lovely touch. The suite was great with everything we needed & a huge comfy bed, as stated in previous reviews the hotel is abit dated but had character & have no complaints about our room. Hotel is in a great location with Union Square right on the doorstep, the Bart station a 5min walk away (we took the bart from the airport only 30mins & $21 return), the tram was just around corner & was fun to ride. There were bars & restaurants close by so after a long day of sightseeing we didn't have far to go, also there is a Walgreens just around the corner which was convenient. Overall we had a very pleasant stay at this hotel & would recommend to stay here.…
Stayed for 5 nights and was quite disappointed with this hotel. A previous comment said the hotel was tired which I agree with. The location is great but we didn’t sleep well the whole time due to house keeping waking us up early, the rooms above having extremely creaky floor boards and hearing all the noise from the TV, people walking in the room above and the rooms next to us slamming doors. If I went to San Fran again I would give this hotel a miss.
