Like the charming neighborhood that surrounds it, the Laurel Inn is noted for its warm sense of hospitality. Built in 1963, this newly renovated hotel represents a contemporary take on Mid-Century style to create a sophisticated and comfortable interior drenched in rich colors, relaxed textures, and ingenious details. This is a boutique hotel with kind staff. It is clean and comfortable with ample rooms that include a tiny kitchenette. I can see why this hotel was downgraded to three stars - the lobby is small and tired and the elevator is super old. There isn’t much in terms of amenities in the lobby which was my biggest drawback. However, it was close to USF so it served my purpose.

Location: Terrific neighborhood. If you’re a walker or biker the Presidio, which is just a few blocks north, offers amazing trails with stunning views of Alcatraz, Golden Gate. Staff: Everyone from Gill the manager, to all the front desk folks and housekeeping, were helpful, friendly and efficient. JCC Gym: across the street is terrific: clean, renovated, nice staff. $15 day passes available at front desk. Starting August 20th all indoor SF venues require covid vaccination proof- photo of our cards worked fine. Nearby restaurants range from Spruce [Michelin Star, plenty of outdoor dining] to Peet’s for coffee, tea and breakfasts. Garibaldi’s doesn’t have outdoor dining but had terrific takeout. Our favorite was Presidio Kebab offering authentic Turkish food. Less than a block away on Sacramento & Presidio. Parking: onsite, ground-level garage couldn’t be more convenient. $39/day = a bargain for SF. Rooms: try to get ‘city view’ facing East. Rooms facing West can be very noisy- major bus stops on both Presidio & California. Moving from 215 to 109 was like being in a different hotel. Both rooms were ‘king kitchenettes’ with sink, small refrigerator, Illy espresso maker, and microwave. They happily provide you with a set of clean dishes on request. Very useful if you bring in takeout. Windows open for ventilation. Bathroom: small but recently remodeled. Housekeeping: on request due to covid but super responsive, helpful, and thorough. They’ll change your towels any time you want and when we did ask them to give the room a cleaning they did a thorough and quick job. Don’t forget to tip them- hardest working folks in any hotel and SF, like everywhere else, has a labor shortage. Wi-Fi: is free and generally tested at 5~10mbps up/down. OK for web & email, but was too erratic/unstable for Zoom. I switched to mobile hotspot and excellent 4 bar 4GLTE/5G coverage delivered more than I needed: stable 60 mbps. Adding a premium more stable Wi-Fi option would be a huge plus. Check In/Check Out- fast and seamless. Bill was correct.

Room Tip: East side ['City View'] worth the premium: much quieter than rooms facing Presidio St.

A perfect stay at a very clean, convenient, friendly, lovely Hotel. Situated far enough from the city traffic but close enough to enjoy all that SFO has to offer. I especially liked that UBER stopped right in front of the main door just feet away, very convenient1 This Hotel would be perfect if you were walking impaired in any way as the Parking Garage is very close and accessible as is public transportation. I would definitely stay here again.
