I stayed in this lovely little hotel for 4 nights in September. The room was very nice. Not overly spacious but clean and very quite. Had a great nights sleep in there every night. The staff are very nice and helpful. I asked a girl the first day about tours and she spent about 20 mins going through the options....

We stayed at The Opal for 5 nights in early November. Initially, I was upset that even though I booked it through Hotwire, the rate we ended up with was the same as if we booked it on our own through any of the travel websites. My husband looked at the reviews from others and said that it was going...

This was my first time at the Opal although I travel to San Francisco frequently. The Opal has a European feel; a lovely lobby, and neat ,tastefully decorated rooms. It's walking distance to Union Square,a short cab ride, or a public bus can be boarded right out front. The atmosphere is refined and quiet with helpful, attentive staff. The price was very reasonable, and included a continental...

Rooms are old, outdated and mine smelled like mothballs and smoke. Service was non existent... Breakfast? Your best bet is to go to Mel's diner. Not worth the $90.

This hotel is a bit off the beaten path but the room was very nice, recently and tastefully decorated and the bed was very comfortable. I like older hotels with "character," so it you like glitz, this is not for you. However, if you like to soak in a huge bathtub that has been there for years, i.e., is not...

Stayed here in the summer. This place is South of Market, near the Tenderloin. So, best to not go strolling around the neighborhood at night. Pretty sketch town if you know what I mean. The location is not the best. We had a car, but to drive one in SF is a hassle, so we parked it in a garage...

GOOD: Rooms were nice and spacious, beds extremely comfy! Mel's Diner is connected right to the lobby so you dont have to know your way around San Francisco in order to get good food. Also Tommy's Joynt across the street is DELICIOUS! I felt safe enough, especially being from out of town. Bus stop right next to the hotel made...

We have stayed in this hotel a number of times. With that said, yes we keep coming back and yes, there is the good and the bad! Our first stay was in Winter and our room was huge. Our next stay was during the spring and our room was on the back side over looking the street and was very...
