Something different, unique experience. Stayed for 5 nights with my friend, we had a great stay. Friendly staff, rooms are really small and kinda rustic, but felt like home. Was a bit concerned about the fact that we didn't have a sink or a bathroom in our room but it was not a problem at all, there were enough bathrooms...

Thank you so much for your kind review – it is much appreciated. We are glad that you liked your stay, felt at home, you were comfortable with the bathrooms and found our hotel to be in a great location, and overall a good experience. The bathrobes are a new addition, to make guests more comfortable going “back and forth”...

Just back from a nine night stay at the San Remo Hotel and we loved it. I was a bit concerned about the bathrooms and shower situation when I booked the hotel but it turned out great. The bathrooms and showers were always available and always clean. The staff at the Front Desk were always helpful. The hotel is in...

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel, and for staying for 9 nights! We are glad that you found our hotel to be in a central yet quiet place. Thank you too for describing your experience with our Victorian bathrooms. Some travelers may feel a bit apprehensive because of this feature, and your review will help put...

Not for everyone. Only has one room that is ensuite and there are One to three staircases to climb. We had the Penthouse which does have the ensuite and three slights of steps. BUT, we had great views and a huge rooftop seating area. Definitely faded glory, but great staff and a great location. If you want different and not...

Thank you very much for your review. We are a historic hotel and work hard to maintain it faithful to the way it was built back in 1906. We are an antidote to the big chain hotels where you will be ensured that nothing remotely interesting happens. The Penthouse offers the chance to feel more like a local in your...

If you are looking for something different, this is it. Stayed three nights and would stay there again. The only issue we had was that our room was beside the vending machines and laundry, with old thin walls,it was noisy at times. Great location.

Thanks for your review and for choosing to stay at the Historical San Remo Hotel. We are glad that you tried our hotel, and that you enjoyed our different style. We regret that the laundry room was a bit noisy. It sounds as if you had an enjoyable visit to San Francisco. When you are ready to return, call us...

This location is right in the heart of the Fishermans wharf, Alcatraz, Ghiradelli square area. Everything within 0.5 mile walking distance. All of the rooms are super small, as I'm sure this is noted on the website. You basically open the door and there is the bed. Once you put your suitcase down, there is no room for moving around...

We are glad that you found our hotel to be in a convenient location. We are a beautifully preserved historical hotel, and it is no secret our rooms are cozy. We stayed two nights in this historic building, and from the moment we entered, were enchanted. So many period features, plants and creepers growing in the narrow passageways, big brass beds, coffee and sweets, mouthwash, combs, books and many other little touches. The room are not the biggest, bathrooms are shared, WiFi a bit slow and at busy times it...

Having lived and wandered in Europe for a half dozen years, I adore the San Remo. Small, quiet and convenient. If you need lots of room to feel important than this is not your spot. But if you just need a clean comfy room to serve as your starting point to all things San Francisco, you'll love the San Remo...

Booked the San Remo Hotel right before President's Day weekend. All other major hotels were either sold out or over-the-top expensive. Historical hotel in very easy walking distance to Fisherman's Wharf, Cable Cars etc. Reasonable price but rooms very small and bed was only just ok. Memorabilia of earlier days fill the hotel. Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We are a family-owned historic boutique pension-style hotel located in North Beach, one of San Francisco's oldest and most popular tourist destinations, and only a few blocks from Fisherman's Wharf. Built in 1906, our hotel maintains an atmosphere of Old-World charm and ambiance with specially selected antique furnishings - no two rooms are alike. The walls of the hotel are filled with a collection of memorabilia and history. Our style is simplicity and sanctuary - there are no room telephones, no televisions, and on the order of European pensions, shared baths which are meticulously cleaned daily, and are private when in use, but for all guests to use. Our rooms are cozy and small, our prices are proportional. Our staff is available while our Front Desk is open to help you find anything your heart desires. A truly unique, non-standardized hotel experience. ... more   less
