Beautiful hotel. The front desk clerks were friendly, and courteous. The hotel and room were impeccably clean. Plenty of parking which was near the elevator. Walking distance to Fisherman's Wharf. This is my new 'go to' for San Francisco! I would highly recommend this hotel to family and friends.
I was traveling with my teenage son and we need our separate spaces; I rent suites because it costs less than two conventional rooms and it's usually nicer. Our suite was amazing, with a view of the skyline. Conveniently located near Fisherman's Wharf, we had easy walking access to most of the things we wanted to see. Our room was very quiet, and I was surprised to see it overlooking what was a very busy pool area! I did not hear any noise. They offered an outstanding hot breakfast, packed and handed as takeout in response to COVID. This was actually the best breakfast I had in a long time. The staff were very friendly and helpful on every front - from the front desk to the food service areas to housekeeping. My one wish: more working elevators. There were three that went to the lobby and only one worked. This was very congested each morning when people were checking out and had all their luggage. Another single elevator down the hall goes to the fitness room which is on the opposite side of the driveway - we used that one more often (we couldn't find any stairs). But just FYI: this entrance did not readily appear to be handicapped accessible. From what I could see, one would need to walk down three or four steps to get outside. The decor was modern and eye-pleasing, and the entire property was very clean. The property was close to many conveniences such as grocers and restaurants. We walked everywhere and got to see such places as Telegraph Hill, Lombard Street, Chinatown, Pier 39 & the infamous California Sea Lions, Alcatraz, etc.…
We stayed here as a couple on a short vacation. Check in was quick and easy. The hotel room was clean and functional but didn’t have anything special about it. The bed was large and comfortable but the pillows were thin and clumpy. The room was on the ground floor overlooking a bus depot with a bus stop directly opposite our window, There are privacy blinds and black out blinds which we had closed most of the time as the room didn’t feel very private. There was noise from the road but not too bad overall. The breakfast at the hotel was of a good standard however we did find the pastries rather dry. If you want to spend time around Fisherman’s Wharf the hotel is in a great location with easy access to Pier 39 and Pier 33 and all the food and shops along Fisherman’s Wharf. There are nice views to the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz just a short walk away. You can also walk to Little Italy for some great food, the pizza at Tony’s Pizza Napoletana is fantastic. We enjoyed our stay and would return but if you are looking for luxury then I would say look elsewhere but the hotel offers a clean and comfortable stay.…
Our superior room was on the 3rd floor. It was spacious with a seating area & a very large comfortable bed. The bathroom was small but adequate, there was always plenty of hot water. The washbasin was just outside the bathroom in a lobby opposite the clothes hanging area. We’ve had this in previous USA hotels. Breakfast was plentiful with lots of different choices always busy (we eat around 7.45am each day) but we didn’t ever queue and the restaurant staff work hard to keep tables cleared & clean. The fire pits outside make for a pleasant seating area after a busy day sightseeing. We didn’t get to use the pool as we never had time. Hotel is situated in a good area just a 5 minute walk to fisherman’s wharf & pier 39. Buses, trams & cable cars are a short walk away. recommend the muni app for getting tickets Loved our 7 night stay in San Francisco lots to see and do & the hotel Riu made our stay very comfortable.…
We decided to travel to San Francisco last minute, and this was an excellent property. Walking distance to the wharf and excellent accommodations. Very inviting fire pits outside bar in the lobby. My family had an amazing time ands will definitely be back.
We absolutely loved our stay at the Rio hotel in San Francisco, location was absolutely perfect so close to Fishermans wharf and the beds were so comfortable we hardly wanted to leave the room, also hands-down the best breakfast buffet. I’ve had it any hotel!
Great location lovely for walking about, good app to get is Muinmobile, loads cheaper giving you the option to jump on and off cable and buses, bus numbed 28 straight to Golden Gate Bridge and many other attractions, got off at china town for our dinner one really good. Pier 39 great to watch seals
We are currently staying at this tired old hotel. The price is exorbitant for what you receive, no kettle, no ceramic mugs, no water glasses in bathroom, in fact no bottled water except the two bottles received at checkin. Big clunky heating/ac units that don’t seem in sync with the wall panel control. We turned the unit off but it took over six hours for it to stop working. We have made a paid upgrade to a suite as we had four nights here, only to find there is a fan that whirs which is set on a timer from like 6.00am to 10.00pm . There is no control for this as it is connected to the vents on the roof. It SO NOiSY we can hardly talk or think or read peacefully and the worst thing is it woke me up when it started this morning. So now we have a sitting room we can’t sit in , basically the same pokey bathroom so no gain except a much larger bill. We would have been better to stay in original room allocated facing the buses listening to people talking and walking above us. The hotel certainly needs a spruce up -breakfast is a bun fight with so many people -it looks and feels like a cafeteria…
The only negatives we had.. Every guest has a limited supply of water. Yes, this is true in 2023 at a 4star rated hotel. The front desk staff's only response is, we are only allowed to give 2 bottles to guests. Obviously this doesn't effect your holiday. But after crediting them $168 for 4 night services, surely that should include H20?. Apart from having to ask for water. We had a great stay. Positives: Clean room, comfortable bed, decent breakfast. Location is ideal as a base for all sights.
Stayed 6 nights. Lobby is lovely. Fire pits and seating outside are great. Room big enough for a family of 4. Breakfast quality and choice was fantastic and we never waited more than 5 minutes for a table(it got busy around 8.30am-9am) Pool and loungers great but pool was not heated. 5 minutes from Pier 39 and a tram stop. 15 minutes walk ish to Exploratorium and Alcatraz boat pier. Only slight negative is that the sound proofing could definitely be better in the rooms.
