Timeless yet modern, The Westin St. Francis San Francisco on Union Square has been offering guests a warm welcome and an enriching, restorative stay since opening on March 21, 1904. With its turn-of-the-20th-century European style, our hotel in downtown San Francisco, CA, blends the elegance of oak-paneled restaurants and the stately grandeur of the lobby with a $45 million reinvention of the Landmark Building guest rooms, ushering in a new chapter for this storied destination. At this standout among San Francisco hotels on Union Square, you can host events in venues and ballrooms where the finest big bands once played. Recharge in elegant rooms, many featuring chandeliers and marble bathrooms, with modern touches like Heavenly® Beds and Enseo Smart TV systems. As the only hotel on Union Square, SF, it is close to the Financial District and Moscone Convention Center, and with cable cars just outside our front doors, we are at the intersection of the glorious past and vibrant present of this incredible city.

The St, Francis has been around since the early 1900. It had a bar, where women were not allowed and it was all very fancy. Women can of course now go where ever we want and you should stay at the St. Francis, especially if you are on vacation. It is amazing. It is perfect. It screams we are San Francisco. The location is perfect. You can get anywhere from the hotel. There are cabs, the street cars, Uber and if you have your car they will take care of it. We brought our car and the valet is so sweet and kind. Why we did that is beyond me, I am not always the bright thinker. You don't need a car if you are at the St. Francis. Our car sat the entire time as we walked the beautiful streets, grabbed the trolley and had our valet grab us an Uber. If you like walking you can start at the St. Francis and just go anywhere. Chinatown is not too far of a walk (note there are a lot of hills you may be walking up) and if you really want a walk you can get all the way to the ocean. I did not do that, but I have before. I am getting old and tired. But I made it to Chinatown. Once you leave your car, if you bring one--don't. Check in is a breeze. The staff is wonderful and they know everything you would ever want to know about the area including great places to eat, shop or drink. Personally, I like staying right where I am and you can do that and just relax. The rooms are not large. This is an older hotel. I don't know about the big suites, that is out of my budget. Our room was great. It was so clean and the bed was comfortable. We had a nice TV, a table with chairs and the best view of the City. Even the elevators at the St. Francis are cool. The lobby is welcoming with the nicest décor. I hung out there and read while I waited for the rest of the gang to get back from their hike to the Fisherman's Wharf. I was in heaven. We had breakfast there and they have an Italian restaurant that is great. I think they make their own pasts, but I am not sure. It was great. There is a comfortable bar. They also have High Tea sometimes. You will want to call ahead and ask about that. Check out was easy and getting the car we did not need or use was just a phone call to the valet and it was waiting for us. You will love this place. It is a little slice of heaven and so belongs in San Francisco.

Thanks for the invoice, Just wanted you to know that the bathroom in the room we stayed in was so excruciatingly small, both me and my spouse injured ourselves while trying to fit in and close the door. Was this done on purpose? Why is the bathroom such that that to go in and close the door one has to pretty much jump into the bathtub and then try to shut the door? Why on earth is it so small? I have stayed in Westin s a couple of times before today and nowhere have I faced such silly issues with the room. I stayed in Seattle a couple of years back and in Mumbai India a decade or so back, those West ins were truly luxurious. Anyways, this is an architectural issue and not something I think you can solve, but it is something you should keep in mind. Your guests are bumping their bodies, injuring themselves, all in the pursuit of trying to shut the bathroom door behind them to seek some privacy and modesty. Not too much to ask for , is it? Also, I know you guys are aware of it, because there is a little rubber thingie on the door where it bangs against the toilet seat while trying to close. So you know the door does not have enough space to swing open, so you must also have realized that humans will hurt themselves while trying to close it. Brilliantly disappointed. Thanks for partially ruining our long weekend. We know where not to stay ever again! The West in! Stay away folks, for all its plus points, the location, the prestige and the clean sheets, IT SIMPLY IS NOT WORTH HURTING YOURSELF SIMPLY WHILE GOING TO THE BATHROOM. JUST STAY AWAY!

It sounds like you may have been in one of our traditional guestrooms in the Landmark Building. Deluxe or Grand Deluxe guestrooms provide a larger guestroom and "maime-free" bathroom.

The St. Francis is an old hotel, but so beautiful. It has been kept in great shape and it still has its noble shine. Everything about the hotel is lovely. Check in was easy and I was able to get a better rate directly with them so maybe give them a call. They are very nice. I was able to check in a bit early and that was great. The rooms are not huge, again, it is an older hotel. Our room was wonderful. Everything worked and I did not have to call down to get someone up to fix something--that happens so often at hotels. The TV worked great and we had a nice view. The food is super yummy. Breakfast items were lacking so they need to work on that, but what they had was great. We had dinner there and loved it. Fact is, I did not want to leave.

Traveled from Maui, Hawai'i to do a weekend trip in San Francisco and stayed at the beautiful Westin St. Francis. So glad I upgraded to a Grand Deluxe room as the room had amazing views of the Golden Gate Bridge from the 30th floor. Also had the best drinks in the lobby bar and the bartender was superb. Highly recommend this historic hotel and can't wait to go back!
