There's a reason why "Greunke" rhymes with "funky." This quirky inn has a super fun, retro feel, with each room having a different theme. My whole wedding party booked the place out, and we had such a blast. It's an older inn, but it was super clean, the decor was either fun, eclectic, or hilarious, and the people who run...

My wife and I dropped in at Greunke's looking for a room for 2 nights. After some confusion by the desk clerk, we were offered the Studio room. We handed over the credit card and assumed it was for 2 nights, but when we returned from a day's outing on Madeline Island, we found that all our stuff had been...

I can only speak about the experience as a guest of the Inn (staying two nights over in September 2016.) The location is terrific, and the room is fine. The important thing to realize is that the Inn is attached to a working restaurant with many staff members. If there was a dedicated staff member for the Inn, I didn't...

We had a very disappointing experience in the Greunke's Inn and Restaurant. The shower was moldy, the carpets were stained, the screens were ripped, the wait staff was crabby and inattentive, and our two day reservation was completely botched with no apologies. We checked into the hotel looking forward to a two-day stay in Bayfield and the surrounding islands. We...

We were disappointed in the food but more so with the service. We ordered 3 angus burgers and 1 chicken sandwich, a group of 5 that came in after us got all their food before us, we got half our food and had to wait almost 10 minutes for the rest and then they forgot the bacon on 2 of...

After a rough day of sailing, we needed a place to stay while the boat was getting repaired. The hospitality is awesome! Judith was amazing and very accommodating, she had a room available and we were able to walk/check in after the restaurant had closed. She shared the history of the building and her vinyl collection with us. We were...

This is hands down the best breakfast in the area - great service, quality food and reasonable prices. Even if you're staying on Madeline Island this place is worth the ferry ride over - there are NO good breakfast places on the Island (the new Farmhouse is terrible - uncooked, cold food - and I gave it three tries). Gruenke's...

I was looking forward to this quaint inn. It is clean and furnished with some antique items. We had a room with a bath and were in the building with the pizza shop. The room was a lot smaller than the photo on the web. It was quiet even though the pizza place was downstairs and it is on the...

This was our second visit to Bayfield. We stayed at Gruenke's both times. Our first stay in the summer of 2014 was very pleasant, unlike our very recent visit this fall. We stayed in the Madeline room. The mattress was absolutely terrible! Like sleeping on a board! The result was lack of sleep, tossing, turning and a backache the next...

Our room was very quaint furnished with some great antique furniture. It was small but adequate, clean and very comfortable. I would definitely recommend to my friends and stay again. We had to share a bathroom but for my very first time doing this, I was pleasantly surprised. The shower room are separate from the bathroom. It was all good.
