I was looking for a chic hotel that was quieter but in an area that I could walk easily to the stores and restaurants near Soho. Well, I found, it, the Standard at the East Village. From the minute I got out of my cab to the front desk to eating at the restaurant and hanging at the café, I...

Stayed here for a few nights as a solo traveler, the room is tiny although I took the corner one, very nice design and high end bed and amenities , nice trendy bar and cafe downstairs but this location is not here or there and the stuff not so helpful in getting you around to nice places or creating a...

From the silly in house publications to the grotesque pillow with lips and the red lighting at the bed, this place really lays it on. But most of the staff comes at you happy and positive, the pricing seemed a good value, the breakfast cafe not too overpriced with good food. Our room, 1810, had nice views and was quiet...

We stayed here recently to attend a function for my grandson.we normally stay elsewhere, because this place an the Bowery down the road have gotten out of our normal price range. Well that part hasn't changed, but I have to stay the pleasant attitude of the staff made a big difference in our opinion of the place. From check in...

One of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in NYC (although I only stay at nice 4* ones). The service is unprofessional. It's almost like a bunch of inexperienced college kids who are concerned with themselves more than guests ran the hotel. When I drove up to the hotel there was nobody to offer a valet parking (keep in...

I stayed at The Standard, East Village for one night for my 21st birthday so I could go out downtown and enjoy the night with friends. When we got there, my girlfriend told the front desk staff in conversation that it was my 21st birthday. On top of enthusiastically wishing me a happy birthday and making sure we were all...

Had a great two-night stay at The Standard, East Village. The room was spacious by New York standards, but more importantly it was clean, modern, and comfortable. Possibly the first time I've slept well in a New York hotel. Staff were helpful and friendly, and the valet service was excellent. The bar downstairs serves up some great cocktails. The Standard,...

I stayed at the standard east village for a few days (business trip). From the outset the staff were very friendly/helpful and go the extra mile to make your stay that bit more special. Rooms are a good size given the central location and provide some great views over the city. They feature some quirky decorations (those 💋 pillows!). The...

This was the first time we stayed at The Standard East Village hotel. The awning was the only hint that we were in fact at our destination, but that was a clue as to how the hotel operates. A very subtle exterior, a very nice interior to the lobby. Immediately, the staff were helpful and friendly as we entered; we...

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Located off Cooper Square in one of New York's most vibrant, artistic neighborhoods, The Standard, East Village is cozy, charming, and eccentric in equal measure-very much in the spirit of its surroundings. You enter the 21-story tower through an original tenement-style building before ascending to unparalleled views of Manhattan. There's a quiet, calm garden tucked away at street level, Michelin-starred chef John Fraser's widely acclaimed Narcissa, and the bustling, street-side Café Standard, which hums from morning until late night. ... more   less
