Great location, close to subway. Beautiful lobby, hospitable staff. Priceline billing was a little jacked up, it said I used a different credit card to prepay than I actually did , so things were confusing. Very stylish room, but small because it's NY. I think the hotel is a converted SRO.

As Australians Visiting New York, we relied on our American friends for advice on a nicely designed, well located, economical hotel for our recent stay in New York, We could not have been happier. The Gem is well located at the Northern end of Chelsea - easy walking distance to Highline, Flat Iron and Empire State. Easy walk to Penn...

Booking a hotel is always terrifying after reading the reivews on yelp. This hotel was great. Staff is chill and helpful and the hotel is what you need: clean bathroom and a bed. Close to 7th and 8th Ave metros and right next door to a (slightly overpriced) but delicious healthy food grab n go food market/coffee shop/restaurant. I never...

I chose this hotel because of it's location. The rooms are small, however if your in the city to explore or work then why would you need anything more? And, if your the luxurious 5 star type, then it's not for you. The staff are friendly and always around if you have questions. There is also a cute rooftop which...

Just disappointing. Found a good deal and booked two nights. Rooms are as small as they come. Ragged curtain, old electric baseboard runner, dated feel in a small box. Mattress and bedding are weak. Lots of great deals around this time of year - can do MUCH better on quality if not location. Major bummer.

My wife & I brought her father to New York in Sept 2016, his first time ever in the US & finding this hotel to stay in really made a great trip even better. Okay, so the rooms aren't huge, but hey it's New York so you know that's going to be the case. But what this hotel does offer...

We typically visit the GEM Chelsea about once a year. This time we got a screaming rate for the penthouse room with a large, amazing private terrace. (The hotel has another rooftop terrace available to all guests but this terrace was separate and private to our room.) February seems to be a less busy month in NYC so their rates...

As I mentioned, its a great location and the staf just can't do enough for you! The rooms are small but well appointed. And when in NYC, who, wants to spend a lot of time in one's room. Too much to,see and do!

Neighbourhood Profile
Chelsea
Home to hundreds of art galleries, beautiful brownstones, and one of New York’s newest and most popular attractions, Chelsea is one of the city’s jewels when it comes to neighbourhood life. The contemporary art scene is an integral part of the neighbourhood’s identity, with gallery openings almost every night of the week and countless exhibits to explore. As a longtime hub of gay culture in New York City, it’s also a diverse district with a vibrant nightlife scene. The opening of the High Line, an abandoned elevated train track transformed into a world-class pedestrian park, gave this neighbourhood new life as a tourist destination.
