YOTEL New York Times Square offers a modern tech atmosphere located conveniently close to the city's bustling Times Square, which is a highlight for guests seeking proximity to attractions. However, the hotel's appeal is somewhat diminished by reports of noise disruptions and rooms that are criticized for being cramped and not living up to expectations. While some guests appreciate the innovative features, there's a sense of frustration over additional fees and inconsistent service. The hotel's cleanliness and comfortable touches do receive positive mentions, but travelers often feel the overall value doesn't align with the cost.

The hotel is in a great location short walk to Time square and Hell’s Kitchen for food but enough distance that you don’t get all the noise and the street is fairly quite (apart from cars and fire engines) but we couldn’t really hear traffic noise from our room! The main part of the hotel is really nicely done, with the bar and restaurant as well as a cafe which we used for tea and bagels in the morning instead of paying for a full breakfast. The rooms however are basic, the decor is nice and everything was clean but if you are staying in a cabin room be prepared for literally no moving space! I went with my partner and he had to literally sit on the bed if I was up getting ready for the day. Our suitcases had to live under the bed, there’s no storage for anything so you can’t really leave anything out. We did have a lot of noise from someone having a shower at 1am one of the nights the pipes were extremely loud, my partner did call reception and a couple people did come straight up to check what was going on. You can always hear your neighbours going in and out of rooms the walls are not sound proof but not the worst! Also our shower didn’t work properly which was slightly annoying, had to hold down the ‘on’ button constantly for the water to work. Also the rooms were very warm in the morning I don’t know why this was but I kept the window open most of the time which then meant it was freezing instead! Couldn’t fault the staff, they were very helpful I requested an extra blanket and hairdryer different nights and someone brought them up to the room within the hour. We paid eight dollars (4 bags) to keep our luggage in the hotel on our last day, one of the guys downstairs arranged a taxi to take us back to JFK airport when we arrived back! Overall I think this is a good hotel for your money especially if you’re only staying for few days, but would not recommend over 4 nights in the cabin room, definitely look to up grade as they are very claustrophobic rooms!

We paid for the King junior terrace room thinking that we would be able to use the jacuzzi outside, we were not told anytime while booking that the jacuzzi is not in service in the winter. Once we entered the room we immediately noticed multiple things that were damaged in the fairly expensive room (300+); sink had a large crack in it, futon couch had multiple stains on it, desk had a large crack, etc. The only thing we found worth our money was the shower and shampoos, we very much enjoyed them.

Hi, While we appreciate that you enjoyed our expansive showers and its inclusions, we do apologize that other elements of your cabin fell short of perfection. It’s true that seasonal weather does prevent us from offering guests the use of hot tubs. Beyond that, it sounds like maintenance concerns were an issue which our team will be proactive in assessing, per your feedback. Thank you for joining us and know that we’d love nothing more than to treat you to a 5-star experience during your next trip to New York City. If there’s anything we can do to facilitate your return, let us know. Take Care, The YOTEL Crew

We went to New York with the intention of not spending time in our room. Let me start by saying the cost was probably a bit more than I would have liked, but it's New York, and I've never stayed anywhere else in the city to compare to.

Pros: The bed was actually pretty comfortable (I'm never happy with hotel beds), the shower was quite amazing. The staff we spoke to was very nice and helpful!

Cons: Could hear literally EVERYTHING through the walls. The room was not in the best shape, things were broken (the bed was supposed to raise, it didn't, the outlets near the bed didn't work to charge our phones), the food at the restaurant was mediocre at best for the prices. The restaurant area was freezing (granted it was cold outside, but it shouldn't have been cold inside!!). No fridge in the room. The toilet and shower were in the room, separated by some sliding glass doors that didn't really shut. And the WiFi was terribly slow. No blanket for the bed, just two sheets, there were 2 pillows that were like sleeping directly on the mattress. No garbage can either, just two recycling bins. The facility fees and additional fees added over $100 to our original quoted price!!!!!

My overall thoughts are that it was fine for sleeping (if you can sleep through noise on a weekend), but not a ton more. I would most certainly go somewhere else the next time I go to New York.

Defrauds customers of $40.16 at time of writing per night (Jan 2020) with an arbitrary hidden fee, which will be likely made illegal as soon as it goes to court.
"Premium" wifi is unusable if you need a continuous connection for more than 2 minutes, so no gaming at all.
Shower has no door, so water spills out to the tiny toilet and room area.
No hairdryer was in our room, so we had to call the front desk twice while they took our time to bring one, while waiting in our cold small room with wet hair.
Toilet and shower area is connected by open air and partially by a thin translucent glass. No lock on that area.
Automated check in by kiosk is advertised, but at the end they won't give you your keys, so you must go do it all over again upstairs with the front desk.

I can safely say that was one of the most disappointing hotel stays in New York we have had, we booked through hotels.com because it seemed to be a good price and we had a couple of reward nights to use. The check in proses is easy with computers in the foyer, the screen told us that the bill was fully paid by hotels.com.
We paid for a premium room with a queen bed, It was very small even with the bed folded into its sofa position. With the bed folded out flat there want enough space to move around. The bathroom space was ok for one but two getting ready at the same time was almost impossible. There was a clothes rail with two hangers and a ironing board and no iron or hair dryer. There was no hot water after 7:30 but the hotel staff just acted like this was normal when we enquired.
When we checked out we were forced to pay a fee of 160USD as a resort fee this was a surprise as the hotels.com price says that it includes all fees and taxes. When I asked to see the manager he told me that “it’s a scam that the corporate office do this to seem more competitive by hiding the extra costs” when I said that I don’t agree he said that he “had already charged my card and if I want to complain I need to go to hotels.com as it is a loop hole in their system that they exploit”
Needless to say when this was pointed out to hotels.com do not care. In summary do not use this hotel is not a relaxing place and the advertised price is not correct.

Hello, Your candid feedback means the world to us so thank you for taking the time to share. While it seems as though you enjoyed our simple check-in process and perhaps our exceptional location, it’s clear that miscommunication regarding our facilities fee and a few other oversights dampened your stay. For that, we apologize. To be clear, facility fees are commonly charged at hotels throughout the area as they enable the maintenance of amenities like fitness centers, meeting spaces and more. We do our best to be transparent about this charge and will continue working to improve communication with our guests. All of your feedback will be reviewed internally as we work to continue perfecting the quality of our offerings. It would be a pleasure to one day welcome you back to New York City. Cheers, The YOTEL Crew

This hotel is falling apart. They make it look "cool" from the outside but it is a dump. The handle to our bathroom door was falling off. The sink was leaking so we had to put the trash can under it. There is no concierge or anyone to talk to since it is all "self service". The wifi is non existent. The sink was also clogged. So we only had about a minute to wash our hands or brush our teeth before the water overflowed. There is an electric and usb outlet next to the bed and it completely came out of teh wall exposing the wiring. the USB outlet didn't work. There was no blanket!! There were two sheets on the bed - mind you it was February in NYC. The ice machine did not have any ice the entire week we were there. There are two sets of elevators you have to go through and that makes the entire process of getting downstairs every day a hassle. There are people downstairs to help you catch a cab, and they are extremely nice. That's the only positive thing I have to say about this hotel.
If you're staying for a night and don't care about wifi, I guess you can stay at this hotel. Unfortunately, a client booked this hotel for us for a week and it was a nightmare.

I have stayed in this hotel about once a year since it opened about 8 years ago. I like its quirky but very efficient rooms and the nice location. I have advised friends to stay there. I booked a 6 day stay for late January during a Black Friday sale. I booked one of their larger more expensive rooms as the stay was for a special family event.

A few weeks later I had a schedule change and needed to arrive one day earlier. This had happened once before 2 years ago. I called them and asked for the extra day at the sale price but the person refused. I asked to speak to the manager. He would call back. Two days later I tried again. After getting no call back I finally booked another hotel for that 1 day. Odd!

Get to the hotel and checking without difficulty. TV in room is working but no program schedule infirmary- see photo

Thus begins 3 days of various hotel staffers telling me it is someone else’s problem! Finally get the manager who eventually tells me the whole floor has this problem and offers a transfer to another floor. Why did it take more than 3 days to get anyone’s attention?

Also a friend had stated there at my recommendation 2 weeks earlier and discovered upon arrival there health department concern about 2 Legionnaires disease cases POSSIBLY linked to hotel in past year and a letter she got advising not to use the shower if you have certain health conditions.

I contacted the hotel about this and staff was very evasive at first about status. Does one really want to stay at a hotel where you shouldn’t use shower? Finally got the hotel to state that had completed all the tasks Health Department had ordered. But transparency here was a big issue.

Hi, First and foremost, thank you for your loyalty over the years. It warms us to know that our unique take on hospitality has left such a positive impression on you. Regarding your most recent stay, allow us to apologize for the communication issues you experienced regarding our promotional rates and your television’s programming schedule. We take pride in concisely sharing information and it’s clear that standard wasn’t upheld in this instance. To the notice your friend cited, we have completed the water protocols recommended by the Department of Health and can report our systems have tested negative for any presence of bacteria. We are required to continue circulating details in this regard but expect the issue will be resolved quickly and has no impact on guest’s stays in the meantime. Our team sincerely hopes you will continue trusting us with your care when traveling through the area. Cheers, Pedro Dias General Manager

Not anymore
I was a loyal customer of Yotel during the NRF Big show event, as it was close conveniently located and provided a different approach.
Unfortunately, every year what made them different has been discarded:
- free muffin in the morning replaced with a $10 dollar voucher, replaced with nothing
- free coffee replaced by payable coffee
During my stay my room has not been refreshed and we had a notice, informing that at least 2 customers got sick with legionellosis in the last 12 month.
All this for a $320+ daily rate
Finito, over, never again

This is outrageous! I understand that a hotel can have confirmed legionella bacteria in their water system but the Yotel sent me 2 emails prior to check in and then allowed me to physically check in without a single mention that the NY dept of health had confirmed the bacteria was present. It wasn’t until I unpacked that I saw the note that was left on the bed. Yotel’s solution is to not drink the water and to take sponge baths if it is before 7pm. They were unapologetic and when pressed offered one bottle of water and a sponge to use for the sponge bath. My husband and I are both 50+ so are included in the high risk group. We had no choice but to quickly find another hotel and then relocate ourselves there, at our own expense and paying a higher last minute rate. It is unconscionable that the Yotel gave us no advanced warning of this health risk.

Hello, It was a pleasure welcoming you to New York City. As you may know, YOTEL has been working with the New York City Department of Health to test and determine if Legionella bacteria was present in the hotel’s water system and has completed all protocols. The Department of Health has notified the hotel that it continues to remain safe to stay with us. Per the notice that was provided, it is okay to do things like drink cold water from the tap or brush your teeth, although, we have shared optional precautions that some at-risk populations may want to take as we conduct ongoing preventive measures. We have a hotline set up for any further questions or concerns you may have. You can reach out to: newyorkguestservices@yotel.com and a crewmember will get in touch right away. We booked 3 nights for about 700$. We were informed only upon entering the room that there were Legionnaires in the water and we were advised not to use any water for any reason. When we turned on the sink the water was brown. We were told by the front desk to use sponges to wash because running water could be a danger. We had to also buy bottled water to brush our teeth. Also, we were double charged for our stay unknowingly and had to call multiple times to fix it. This place is a joke.

My room had its own bathroom. Even though the room was small, it had a small frosted glass enclosure with a toilet and an adjacent frosted glass shower. The shower worked well and had adequate towels and dispensers for shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. I suspect this may be different in other cities, but for NY, you definitely had your own bathroom.
