Our son recommended Union Square because of its excellent subway access and local resources like the farmer's market across the way. The W is perfect. Overall we were well pleased with our stay. The staff are pleasant, including the fellows serving as elevator operators of the one working elevator. (This turned out never to be a problem.) The room was clean and comfortable, with good bathroom amenities, and as a myopic, I especially appreciated the accessible and well lit makeup mirror. The room did not have a coffeemaker, presumably to save space, but you can ask for one. It turns out there was a better option, the coffee bar in the lobby. While it's true you have to throw on some clothes to go downstairs for it, the coffee is excellent (better than Keurig pods) and free. It may only be available in the morning though. We would stay there again.…
Staff was very kind but didnt outweigh the lack of cleanliness in the room. Something yucky on the phone. Mold in the shower. Sink didnt drain. They over sprayed air freshner to cover up odors. Was only there one night.
We wanted to visit our graduate student at NYU, and the W was the PERFECT place! The location is outstanding. It's a 3-minute walk to a subway station with connections to everywhere and a 10-minute walk to NYU. It's surrounded by every kind of restaurant, market, and retail store. The room itself was incredible. We got a Wonderful room with a beautiful view of Union Square. It was very spacious for NYC with a huge closet and plenty of room to move around. It was extremely clean and well-appointed and we enjoyed having the couch. The bed was supportive and comfortable with nice sheets. We had soft towels and bathrobes. We had a mini-fridge and the option to ask for a coffee maker. We enjoyed the free morning coffee bar and croissants. The staff was very nice and helpful. We thought everything was just perfect and we will definitely stay there when we go back. …
This hotel is in a perfect location - across the street from Union Square where there is a subway station. There are so many fabulous restaurants within a short walk of the hotel. The room was a decent size and the bed was super comfortable. The best part of our stay, however, was the incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Everyone from the doorman to the front desk staff to the housekeepers were so warm and gave great advice about restaurants, etc. I highly recommend it!
The staff here was truly superb- friendly, helpful, A+. The destination fee was a real load of nonsense though, especially with no functioning bar or restaurant. I was told I could apply my credit to dry cleaning (who is dry cleaning clothes on a 2 night stay?), a tourist activity (I was there for business, and already lived in NYC for ten years) or the mini bar. So, I had to raid the mini bar for $50 worth of snacks to get my money’s worth. These stupid fees need to go. Just charge the rate you want to charge.
Really helpful and friendly staff. The lack of restaurant on site for breakfast dinner was annoying but I understood it is currently undergoing refurbishment. The reason I'm leaving 1 out of 5 is entirely for the Destination Fee charge. The given reason for the charge in all the replies to the comments is completely disingenuous. It's clearly so that the headline charge for the room shows up cheaper on 3rd party travel sites. I feel for the Marriot service desk staff that are asked to defend the charge, on what must be a daily basis when it's so blatant. Yes the charge is shown on the website, yes the charge is buried in the small print on travel sites and yes, it's communicated at the time of checking in but it still feels like a scam to your customers. Buy pushing down your property rating average (and I'm hoping others will too by giving a minimum rating) it will increase your costs to promote the hotel on 3rd party sites, reduce your conversions from those that are considering the property and ultimately not have the desired effect of increasing your bottom line. We just want transparency. Thanks…
I have been going to W hotels for years. They always deliver. This time, I must say the look and feel was not what I have come to know of W hotels, but that is due to COVID and not to the hotel. Also, I made a mistake, I booked the hotel for one day before I was due to arrive with my wife. In other words we were a now show for our first night. While they originally charged me for that no show, their manager completely understood I made a mistake and they fully refunded me. Honestly they did not have to, but they did. I will come back.
The location is great, right in the heart of everything you want to be around in New York City. The place was very clean and they made sure I had everything I wanted and needed for my stay. Recommend 10/10
Very bad external and internal noise insulation- get really good earplugs … Staff is polite but service is ineffective and indifferent . Asked for a room away from elevator- got room IN FRONT OF IT. Elevator shaft makes creecky noises all day and all night..I guess proper maintenance or maybe oiling is not in the agenda for a 500 dollar a night room…. Internet slow or won’t connect..when you call the hotel service they transfer you to the ISP! Zero accountability or care. And this from a guest with Bonvoy status… A total rip off and why brand name hotels are all about marketing and no substance. Keep away.
This hotel fell short of expectations when considering the price. Don't get me wrong it was clean and the bed comfortable. Beyond that it was not very accomodating. There was nowhere to sit in my room. The TV remote was worn out. No coffee pot or small microwave. The floor was threadbare and an actual chunk of flooring missing from below the carpet. - The place was empty - why are they putting people in these rooms? The staff was friendly but there was nowhere we could gather as a group and use their tables etc to eat takeout. The bar consumed the lobby area as well as the restaurant.
