My work brings me to NY at least 4 times a year and so I decided this time to change my upper west side location and head down to Chelsea for some change. Being a pessimist myself I booked only two nights and decided to see the place first if I don’t like it and then if needed change the... More

On every trip to New York we try to explore a new area, so this time opted for The Maritime due to its quirky design and its proximity to Chelsea/Meatpacking neighbourhoods. Yes the lobby is rather dark, with its open fireplace and comfy seating areas it feels all the more cosy and intimate - a world away from the tourist... More

The Maritime is still a good choice, even though it has seen its best days. But the hotel has a certain charm, being a bit unusual with its maritime theme. However, the rooms (and the rest of the hotel for that matter) are really dark - and dated. Not a lot of space around the bed. Bathrooms are also small,... More

My wife and I stayed at the Maritime on our trip to NYC for New Years eve. We booked the hotel based on reviews from this site and it did not disappoint. Location was perfect, room was lovely and clean and the staff were very friendly while still being casual. Overall great value for money and would definitely stay there... More

I stayed here one night for a short NYC fix. The location is fantastic and except for a trip to Brooklyn we were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. It's across the street from Chelsea Market and the Highline and walkable to the Meatpacking District, Greenwich Village, and lower mid-town. There is a subway one block away. The... More

I've stayed at the Maritime several times with friends and also with my boyfriend. It used to be my go to hotel in NYC until i decided to explore other ones. Was looking for a hotel in the Meatpacking/Chelsea district. The art deco cruise ship vibe is cool and laid back. There are lots of model types staying here and a ecclectic crowd. The restaurant and bar are fine and laid back too. It gets a tad loud on Sat, so I would recommend a higher floor with a view of... More

Staying in Chelsea

Neighbourhood Profile
Chelsea
Home to hundreds of art galleries, beautiful brownstones, and one of New York’s newest and most popular attractions, Chelsea is one of the city’s jewels when it comes to neighbourhood life. The contemporary art scene is an integral part of the neighbourhood’s identity, with gallery openings almost every night of the week and countless exhibits to explore. As a longtime hub of gay culture in New York City, it’s also a diverse district with a vibrant nightlife scene. The opening of the High Line, an abandoned elevated train track transformed into a world-class pedestrian park, gave this neighbourhood new life as a tourist destination. The High Line provides visitors with a tranquil, elevated space with incomparable views, providing an unparalleled way to experience the city.
