This was our first visit to New York and our first stay at any Mandarin Oriental Hotel. From start to finish our experience was simply perfect. Check in on the 35th floor was quick, easy and informative, the staff were very welcoming, professional and friendly, and they helped us locate our room on the 52nd floor. Bottled water was in abundance and you can get tea and coffee making facilities in the room on request, and for us it was supplied very promptly. Our room was great as had plenty of space and an absolutely fantastic view of NYC of the Hudson River. I loved the layout of the room as the bathroom was positioned adjacent to the full width of the bedroom, with plenty of storage for our belongings. One of the highlights of this hotel for me was the 23 metre long pool on the 36th floor, which had the most amazing views of the city. It opens at 6am every day except Sunday when it opens at 7am. I was there first thing every morning swimming for over an hour each day. There are 3 lanes and there were mainly 3 people swimming when I was there all comfortably lane swimming. The only day it got busy was on the Sunday morning when there were around 6-8 people from 8am and we all swam in a circle, which worked out ok. The staff at the pool were cool and always there to help, the large gym is right next to the pool and there are dry saunas in the male and female changing rooms. Something that was different from the other hotels that I have visited was the range of fruit offered at the pool which was so nice after a non stop swim. We had an excellent service from the concierge (Colleen), thank you so much for your advice on our visit to the Statue of Liberty, the map provided and help with our transfer. Of note for future guests that normally take taxis or uber in Europe, these are expensive in NYC so do try the metro which is less 2 mins walk from the hotel. The metro is really dirty though, so do prepare yourself. I won’t be coming to the states for a while but if I do come to NYC again I would definitely stay here.

I cannot say enough about the wonderful staff -- Robin, Danny, Colleen, just to name three, but really all of the people we encountered were professional, warm, helpful, and knowledgeable. Everyone: The gentlemen in the first floor lobby who directed me to the 35th floor lobby, The housekeeping staff, Every single person at the front desk. I lived a career in customer service, and know what a challenge the public can be. I am so grateful for how welcome they made me feel.
Our room was perfect: bed, view, shower, bathroom, lighting, carpet, temperature, quiet, adequate horizontal spaces for the inevitable 'stuff' we carry with us wherever we go.
The coffeemaker and teakettle were a very welcome addition. Thank you for those.
The food in the restaurant: delicious. And Oh what a view from there, as well.
We were very appreciative of the easy indoor walk to Dizzy's, which was the reason we were in New York. Wednesday night's weather was ghastly and oh Joy we didn't even have to consider it.
Our thanks to Mandarin Oriental for making our little visit to New York a delight.

The Mandarin Oriental in New York is celebrated for its luxurious amenities, including breathtaking views of Central Park, excellent service, and prime location. Guests have praised the attentive and personal service, the quality of the restaurants and gym, and the overall enchanting atmosphere. However, some guests noted that the decor could be updated and that the value might not match the steep prices, given the outdated rooms and occasional lapses in cleanliness. Despite these critiques, many find their stay at the Mandarin Oriental to be memorable and recommend it for its central location and opulent amenities.

If you have experienced a mandarin oriental hotel before and you think this will be on the same standard, you are making a very expensive mistake.

The only reason this hotel is still open is the location, the views of central park are indeed amazing and you can walk to all central points of interest, but that is as far as the good goes.

The bad and the terrible:

The concierge service: i approached the concierge 5 times and the standard answer was literally "i don't know", the highlight of the terrible service was recommending a steakhouse that served no steaks.

The breakfast lounge: once you have enjoyed the views and need to actually get some food the appeal ends, very limited choices, very basic cooking. What was particularly offensive was how dirty the tables, carpets and even chairs were, i had to literally clean my seat of crumbs and leftovers while the staff looked at me and offer no help. From there onwards i couldn't stop thinking that if the front is dirty imagine the back...

The room: we booked a large corner room on the top floor, the size and views were amazing. Then it all went downhill, the furniture was old and full of nicks and stains, the carpets are probably the originals from 20 years ago, i opened a window and the dust and spiders that came out scared me into asking the staff to open it. The bed sheets had yellow stains and so did the towels. The amount of dust under the furniture and around the windows, doors, light fittings was clear evidence that housekeeping had not done a full cleaning in a very long time.

What really pushed me over the top was that when my wife complained the service actually went from bad to worst... The room was cleaned but amenities stoped being re filled, towels disappeared, water bottle reduced to half and in general we felt like we were punished for complaining.

I couldn't recommend this hotel to anyone... If i was offered to stay there for free i would skip it!

This hotel offers location and location only, if you are looking for anything else in your experience stay as far away as possible, you can always go for a drink at the lounge and enjoy the views without spending thousands of dollars in mediocre rooms and service.

Dear Mandarin Oriental New York Team,

I recently stayed at your hotel in June during my visit to the NYU Conference, and I wanted to share my wonderful experience.

The welcome amenity in my gorgeous suite was not only wonderful but also delicious. Every colleague I encountered was incredibly helpful, and the Concierge team went above and beyond in their efforts to find a particular Swatch watch for my nephew. Their dedication was truly appreciated.

The Asian noodle soup I ordered from room service was delicious and great value for money. Whenever I asked for advice or assistance, nothing was too much trouble for your team. Although I missed the entertainment in the Sky Lounge during brunch on Sunday, the music I heard sounded fantastic. The hotel’s prime location offers the best address in the city with stunning views of Central Park.

Many thanks for making my stay so memorable.

My experience here was excellent as always. The hotel is in a great location and the views can’t be beat!

I booked a Hudson View Room via FHR and was a big worried about the FHR perks based on reading prior reviews. I should not have been; they honored every single benefit! This was very important to me!

I can in off a red-eye and was able to get checked in at 8AM to the room that I booked and then was able to get upgraded one category to a Central Park View (room is a bit bigger as well) 4-5 hours later. Truly great service by the front desk.

The breakfast credit is $82 for the room and can be used for in room dining. The menu is a bit expensive but the in room dining service is excellent and very attentive!

Bellmen and doormen are great and very helpful.

The pool is amazing and in my opinion unmatched in NYC. The pool attendants take pride in their work and are very pleasant to talk to.

Whenever I find myself in NYC, this is my go to hotel.

One of the very best hotels we have stayed in across the globe.

For many reasons including

Knowing room was ready via the WhatsApp connection was very helpful (as transferring from another hotel)

Warmly greeted on arrival by bellman and again by check in staff

Room smelt fresh and appeared visually welcoming - particularly loved the bathroom.
Bedding was comfortable

Staff in bar and lounge wear excellent and attentive and remembered our names in return (particularly Sam and Daniel)

Impressed that Daniel in bar remembered our wine order upon repeat return

Good selection of food in bar - (Would have liked a steak however in the menu apart from being available on room service ) we also enjoyed delicious breakfasts there
Views from Bar were amazing over Columbus Circle

Loved the Swimming pool

Housekeeping service was excellent and friendly. Anything requested came very quickly

Would have appreciated a small shop with necessary items available

Overall an excellent stay with consistently high standards of service throughout the hotel

We were provided with the most amazing experience for my birthday, from a very pleasant welcome from Jonathan, to Olis C. unexpectedly upgrading us to a gorgeous suite, to Yarisol providing champagne and a gluten-free bday cake to James being very accommodating and helping us plan our spa visit. The in-room dining representatives were sensitive to my gluten allergy and provided delicious alternatives. Our stay exceeded our expectations in every way! I'm still on cloud nine!

I stayed in the Mandarin Oriental in New York with my partner in November. We stayed in one of the suites, which was really specious and beautifully decorated with spectacular views of New York, in each room we had a different view, my favourite was the view from the bedroom where we could see Central Park. In addition, I also found the hotel staff to be very friendly and helpful and go out of their way to be attentive and helpful to guests as well as having great knowledge and suggestions of New York and for places to visit. Lastly, the hotel’s location is also great and local to a lot of great attractions. I would recommend this hotel for a variety of reasons and I would come back here.

From the moment you are greeted at street level by the doorman until you checkout days later, everything about this hotel is incredible. It is more than a hotel, it is an experience. The lobby is on the 35th floor of the Time Warner building and the view from the lounge is spectacular.

Everyone is on their A game. From the front desk to the concierge, the housekeeping staff to the lounge servers, they all remember your name, they greet you personally, and in some cases, they remember your breakfast beverage of choice. The bed is comfortable and the view over the Hudson river, especially at sunset, is fantastic.

The pool is heated and large for hotel pools. Seating can be difficult as there is only one love seat and two individual chairs for the entire pool section.

Breakfast in the morning was incredible. There were no bad seats. The view toward Central Park is stunning in the morning. The menu selections are varied and service is excellent.

The amenities in the room are amazing. The turndown staff left chocolates at night and small bands to keep charge chords together. As well, they noticed that I wear glasses and left a glass-cleaning cloth on the bed side.

Overall, an incredible experience. This hotel is greater than the sum of its parts. Whatever the executive office is doing, it's doing it well. The employees genuinely enjoy their work and they are happy to interact with guests.

My only regret was not having time to experience the spa. This will be for my next trip to New York. Thank you Mandarin Oriental New York for a world-class experience.
