We booked into the JW Marriott Essex House because it was close to where we needed to be and the price was reasonable for a JW property in midtown Manhattan. While it might be a grand old hotel, it does not meet the standard of a JW Marriott. We checked in and as a Lifetime Platinum Rewards member, expected a...

We took our granddaughters for the first visit to NYC--at Christmas time, no less, and this was a great place to stay. It's convenient for walking to many places and doesn't take long by cab, either. The 57th st subway station is just steps away. We all agreed our room itself was great, but we did think the bathroom quality...

This hotel is getting ready for an upgrade. That's what i was told by the bellman on the way into my room. He wasn't kidding that it needed it. It's overdue for a real makeover. This isn't the quality one would expect from a JW Mariott, especially at that location. My room was fine and clean, but looked like it...

Omg stayed at this hotel on New years eve 2013, boy was it a zoo people were everywhere trying to check in and get to time square for the wait. The ladies and gentlemen at the front desk handed things admirably. We asked if we could be upgraded to a park view but it wasnt avaliable not big deal I...

Amazing location, great restaurant and bar area. Concierge could not have been more helpful to me, I dealt with them almost daily! I stayed here for a week over New Years and highly recommend this place, although next time I will ensure I have a room much higher up! I had specified "central park view" however from level 5 I...

We stayed at this hotel last year during hurricane Sandy and could not have asked for more from the hotel or staff. However this year was slightly disappointing in comparison. When arriving at the hotel after a long day of travelling from the UK, we were greeted at reception by the receptionist telling us he wanted to take $150 per...

Essex House is what comes to mind when I envision a NYC hotel. Built in the same era and art deco style as the Empire State Building, it is truly a grand old hotel. It's location on Central Park South affords wonderful views of the park and beyond. Every time we walked into the lobby it's art work, Christmas tree...

I must admit I was a bit hesitant about finalizing the reservation at The Essex House. I figured it was going to be run down, dated and provide really small rooms. Well, I could not have been more wrong. Reserved a Queen room but couldn't resist the upgrade offered to a King, Jr Suite for a really reasonable rate. Room...

Based on reviews it seems like "The Tale of Two Hotels" so I can only surmise that they are in the middle of a refurbishment since it became the Marriott. Sounds like some of the rooms need refreshing. (I stayed here years ago when it was the plain old Essex House and the room was small, with no view and...

I was attending the opera , and find the Eseex House, JW Marriott to be very conducive to Lincoln center. The rooms are extremely spacious for a NYC hotel. The view is breathtaking, as it sits right across from Central Park. The bar is lovely and has a fireplace. The breakfast executive lounge is the best one I have been...

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
