The Bowery Hotel is a perfectly curated , distillation of Bohemian Chic with ultra-refined service and the best location in NYC . You will not need a taxi or an Uber here , as incredible restaurants , the best movie theater in the city , edgy Off-Broadway theatres , and beautifully extravagant , unique shopping experiences are all within a few blocks . You can also discover your inner flaneur by wandering aimlessly and getting lost in fascinating and diverse neighborhoods .

The highlight of the hotel is the extensive lobby/lounge area that looks like nothing so much as a Marguerite Duras movie set stocked with characters by Chekhov , Proust , and Hunter S. Thompson . The rooms have flat screen tv’s but don’t worry , you will not need them . What is going on in the lobby is infinitely more interesting , entertaining , and informative .

I think that most of the rooms have great views . Ours had a southwest view that incorporated an incredible view of the new World Trade Center . A constant reminder of things both banal and sacred . The rain showers have mind-numbing pressure , a source of both stimulation and rejuvenation . A blackout curtain provides a sleep inducing environment .

The staff is the oil that lubricates this great machine . The front desk staff , the waiters in Gemma (the in-house restaurant) , and the service staff all do their jobs with effortless ease and assured competence .

Finally , I would say that The Bowery Hotel is firmly rooted in the world but seemingly , mystically not of the world . Exaggeration ? Maybe . She is my new muse .

My husband and I love staying at the Bowery Hotel. We LOVE eating at Gemma and relaxing in the "living room". The ambience of the hotel is magical. Our room was meticulously prepared for us and the extra little touches were greatly appreciated.

What a delight to have bowler hatted doormen greet us in such good spirits. We entered the Old World-designed living room areas, amber light setting the ambiance in a soft glow. The fire was lit emanating warmth and welcome. Staff offered tea or drinks. The bed and bath linens were soft, like being ensconced in cumulus clouds.

This hotel has such beautiful European decor. It's warm and elegant. Their attention to detail, especially in the rooms, rivals the most expensive hotel brands. But what really makes this hotel special is the staff. Every single person that works there. I broke my ankle on the first day of my stay and the staff from that moment on showed non-stop concern and care. They were there for me with whatever I needed including checking on me every time any of them saw me. They were kind, and friendly and took the time to talk with you. You felt like they were friends you've known forever. I wanted to take all of them home with me. I HIGHLY recommend this hotel. Oh and the food in their restaurant is excellent.

The Bowery is true to their NYC history because the vibe matches the aesthetic.
Their room product is so cool without compromising comfort, with thoughtful accoutrements in the room, teddy bear, stationary & pencil! Bathroom amenities are generous, you’ll share a pair of Bowery slippers so you can bring the second pair home. The minibar prices were reasonable, who has M&m’s for $3.00 these days?
And Speaking of “These days” The Bowery delivers the NYT to your door. When a hotel delivers the weekend paper, it pretty much guarantees I’m ordering room service for breakfast. And I loved the Avocado toast from Gemma.
We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend and will definitely return

Visually, there were many wonderful things regarding this hotel, that made it our choice. It felt totally magic. Even the adjacent Italian restaurant, belonging to the hotel, which menu was a perfect interpretation, not of American Italian but proper Italian, with a touch of modernity, something truly authentic for someone that lived in Italy for a long time. But… we were left with the feeling that it was theatrical. It is like a “make believe” world.
We ordered the “fritto misto”. I am a chef, so I know a bit about how things should be done, and when food is “marked” from before, and refried, etc…
The focaccia and pizza were totally uneventful. The Tiramisu lacked alcohol and coffee. The affogato was excellent. From the same restaurant comes the room service. It was on the not good side. Frozen branzino, and not cared, in general.
So it is like an “as if” but not quite…
The curtains, made of “velvet” are polyester and they do not close well. There was no amenity water in the room, the door of the bathroom was squeaky, and the sheets reek of bleach. This, unfortunately happens in most hotels. They do not take the precaution of double rinse. I woke uo in the middle of the night feeling really intoxicated by it.
The building is stunning, and decor is also very attractive -in the photographs- but props like in reality.
It is great to mix styles, but they need to make sense together. That is my opinion…
The personnel was lovely. The best feature of the hotel.
It was quiet inside of the hotel, but of course this is NYC, which is so noisy at night in the streets.
The rating of hotels regarding “stars” can be deceiving, because they do not take in consideration these things. That is why reviews do their part.

Response from Kirk Wilson, General Manager at The Bowery Hotel
Responded 12 Jul 2024
Hi Alexandra, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your kind words and honest feedback, it is truly appreciated. I'm so sorry that your stay left room for improvement. I will be sure to discuss your feedback with our team, to continue to look for ways to improve. A few notes: We do provide amenity water in the rooms at turndown. In the future, we would be happy to place those ahead of arrival if you prefer! Regarding the dishes, the fritto misto is not marked (which for those readers who may not know restaurant terminology, means to half cook a dish and finish cooking it when the kitchen receives the order). All of our dishes are cooked from scratch. The tiramisu is made with espresso and Marsala wine. We do not buy frozen branzino or freeze it, we receive it fresh and prepare it that way. The pizza is a hybrid of Neapolitan and Roman styles made from Italian Caputo flour, San Marzano tomatoes and fresh local Mozzarella made with imported Italian milk. The focaccia, which is served free of charge, is also made from Italian Caputo flour, herbs, cherry tomatoes and Italian Nostralina olives. We try our upmost to provide the best ingredients available for traditional Italian cuisine. We do appreciate your comments and I have shared them with our chef to continue to look for ways to constantly improve our cuisine. We have not previously received complaints regarding bleach smell on our sheets but will definitely reach out to our cleaners to ensure this is not happening. I am certain that this is an isolated experience and sincerely apologize. Again, we truly appreciate your feedback and the opportunity to respond and hopefully bring you back as a patron! We would love to welcome you back and turn your experience around if possible. Our chef would be happy to say hello as well and welcome any feedback you may have. Any time you are headed to NYC, please feel free to reach out to our Guest Services Director, Ellen Dyar, at ellend@bohonyc.com and we will make sure to take great care of you! Warm regards, Kirk Wilson General Manager The Bowery Hotel

My first time staying here and it’s amazing. The service and care from all the staff is pure excellence. The food is delicious and they give special preference to guests when seating. The small touches like bringing water to the room nightly and treats is an added bonus. Everything about the rooms are high quality and comfortable.

The Bowery Hotel has become our home away from home in New York after multiple stays. The rooms, while not large, have everything two travelers may need (and we are senior travelers). The beds are extremely comfortable, the armchairs are very welcome, and the showers are among the best anywhere. Most important, the staff are unfailingly warm, welcoming, efficient and helpful. It's not necessarily a bargain just on the basis of price but it is very good value for the overall experience.

I had the most wonderful stay! The staff went above and beyond to make my visit special—they were so kind, attentive, and accommodating throughout. The thoughtful gesture of sending champagne to my room was such a delightful surprise and made me feel truly pampered. Every interaction reflected their commitment to excellent service. I can’t wait to return and highly recommend this gem to anyone seeking a memorable and welcoming experience!

I look forward to my next stay!

The reason I refer to our experiences at The Bowery Hotel as "pleasant surprises" is because every hotel promises great service but they don't always deliver. The Bowery is a grand exception in that, for us, they got all the little things right.....every day, every time.

Room made up AND turn down service each day at the requested time? Check. Extra half and half with room service order? Check. Extra ketchup for room service French fries? They brought the whole, unopened bottle (not the typical 'extra packets' of Sysco stuff). Would you like a newspaper delivered each morning? Could we have both the Times and the Post? Check...same time every morning.

Everyone we interacted with on the staff was pleasant, engaged and genuinely helpful. Like every other business on the planet, I imagine they are challenged by staffing shortages but from our experience, you'd never know it.

We just enjoyed our stay so much and highly recommend this hotel to other travelers.
