Boutique hotel that has been updated. So nice to have a living room and bedroom. Staff was very helpful. There is a nice cafe for breakfast and lunch adjacent to the hotel. Excellent value. We would return.

Hotel's Favourite
I highly recommend the Beacon, which has become my home away from home when I’m in NYC. I look forward to staying here every year, especially during the NYC marathon, and make sure to stay for at least a week. I just left a couple days ago, and as usual, I was very sad to leave and am already planning my return stay. There’s so much I love about the Beacon: 1) Staff: Each person who works here is EXCEPTIONAL - most have been at the Beacon for at least the 6 years that I’ve been coming, and probably longer. They are all so warm, genuinely helpful, professional and incredibly service- oriented. This is NOT your typical corporate-owned hotel but rather a place that will welcome you and care for you. Dawn Matthews, Reservations Manager (for the Beacon’s own in-house reservations department, not an impersonal off-site phone bank) has helped me find the best room for the best rate to meet my needs for many years, 2) Security: I feel safe and very comfortable staying here as a solo female traveler. 3) Clean: The common areas are meticulous, as was my suite, which was thoroughly cleaned daily by the world class housekeeping staff 4) Convenience: it’s rare to find a NYC hotel room with a kitchenette, which is such a wonderful feature! With its spacious living area and kitchenette, I feel like I have a great NYC apartment when I stay at the Beacon. The best NYC markets are right across the street (Fairway, Citarella, Trader Joe’s) and are perfect for delicious prepared meals and more. 5) Location: Hotel Beacon is perfectly situated on the Upper West Side, a very safe neighborhood, 3 blocks from the subway, 3 blocks from Central Park, and close to many great restaurants, bars, bakeries, shops, and museums. I highly recommend the Beacon and can’t wait to return for my next visit to my home away from home! P.S. All the rooms are great but deluxe suites above 15th floor are my favorite - very spacious and super quiet!

We stayed at Hotel Beacon for our first trip to NYC as a family. With 2 teenagers, we got a one bedroom suite with a queen sofa bed. The sofa bed was amazing - no springs and no sagging. Laundry facilities were a plus. The kitchen was a bit small but we were able to eat breakfast (Levain around the corner) and a couple late meals in our room. The kitchen had everything we needed. Housekeeping staff were gracious and fantastic. She always greeted us with a smile each morning. My only recommendation is to have more towel hooks installed in the bathroom. They have a sign to conserve and save water but with only one hook behind the door, it was difficult to hang bath towels. (We ended up using the closets and hung our towels on a hanger) There was also no hand towel hook. Other that that minor inconvenience our stay at Hotel Beacon was fabulous. The location in Upper West was convenient, from subways to cross city buses (M72 and M79!) got us where we needed to go in a jiffy. Even took the subway to the Bronx Zoo. It was a tranquil place to be after a day of sightseeing. Fairway supermarket was across the street...everything at our finger tips! If you can afford it, spring a little extra to be above the 15th floor.

We stayed for a week lured by the kitchenette to supplement our meals out in the city. I was disappointed by the dowdy condition of the room, the sad green bedspreads and teeny bathroom and the total la k of any lobby, food, sheen. The cabinetry in our room on the 22nd floor was more than distressed with paint and wood chipping off and very little space to move around the room. I was sorry I hadn’t booked at the Arthouse around the corner as a friend suggested because we could have made smoothies in that room too and sacrificed the microwave for a space that is more uplifting. Even the fridge is tiny with hardly any freezer capacity in the so called kitchenette which comes with a small cooktop and a pan and some tools. The staff is nice and apologized explaining the hotel is owned by one family and they plan to remodel next year. The location is convenient to Columbia and the subway and that’s why we chose it but unlike Arthouse, they don’t offer a Columbia student discount.

I chose this hotel for its location and it was a great choice. It is perfectly located for the subway, for restaurants, for Central Park and for shops. The staff was very personable and helpful and made us feel welcome. Our room wasn't ready for an early check-in which was OK with us. When we returned later, we found they'd upgraded us to a suite with an acutal view! (so unlike the elevator shafts you often get). But the room was HUGE! again. so unlike most NYC hotels. Very very clean with a comfy bed, good bed linens, a nice bathroom and full kitchen. The sitting area was spacious with comfortable seating. Two TVs. Also very quiet, again, what a surprise. If you are considering the Upper West Side, check out this hotel.

Perfect location, staff was VERY helpful, especially Michael the doorman (Delightful gentleman)! I wish I had collected names of the front desk staff and housekeeping as well. Everyone was lovely. The room was a bit dated, but immaculate. Beds and pillows super comfy. They have self laundry facilities and a gym. Also very clean. Loved our 5 day stay, absolutely will come again!

We stayed at the Beacon hotel for 10 days with my brother and sister in law ….we were all blown away by everyone and everything about the Beacon …first the staff were super friendly nothing too much trouble always a friendly greeting ..the cleaning staff were amazing our rooms were immaculately cleaned everyday with clean sheets ,towels and bathroom products replenished regularly ..our room was on the 14 floor with a nice and interesting views of the Main Street ….the fairway supermarket across from the Beacon really handy and again amazing so was Viand cafe ..the subway a few blocks away as was Central Park . We loved the fact The Beacon was away from the mass of tourists of Time Square and it was lovely to come back to the peace and quiet of upper west side..if we ever came back to New York the Beacon hotel will always be our first choice of hotel ..we would 100% recommend and you would be guaranteed a relaxing and great holiday at the Beacon .

They accommodated our request for adjacent rooms for the four of us. Great room cleaning crew, super friendly. Michael, the Bell Captain was excellent. He took my request for transporting the four of us to JFK plus our luggage. A large taxi vehicle showed up right on time because of Michael’s efforts. Super location with Fairway Market across the street. Viand Restaurant on the corner and subway one block away. The pic is our room view from sixth floor looking southwest Broadway and 74th.

We had a really wonderful stay at Hotel Beacon. The service is top-notch and you can't beat this gorgeous Upper West Side location so close to Central Park and Riverside Park. Our family of 5 stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment and it was perfect. Beds were very comfy. Nice kitchen. Cafe Viand nextdoor was excellent for brunch.

Great upper west side location. After that, I can't say a whole lot more about the Hotel Beacon. We booked a king suite, which could have comfortably slept four guests but doing so would have been miserable as the bathroom would be small even if it were on a cruise ship. Besides the micro-bathroom, our suite, and the suite we moved to for a slightly bigger bathroom, was in serious need of updating. The wall paper seams are lifting, wood surfaces are scratched and dirty, and bathroom fixtures are old and in disrepair (the tub in our second suite had some sort of glued-on bath mat - I can only imagine what lurked beneath the mat). I'm perplexed by the positive reviews others have written about the Hotel Beacon but of course, reviews are subjective. My advice? Stay away. If you can't stay away, caveat emptor.
