We spent a week at this wonderful hotel, wish it could have been longer. The location was perfect for us a family wiht a 14 and 10 year old, we managed to walk to so many places. Time Square was close enough to walk to to see shows but far enough not to have to deal with hassle and bustle...

In town for a weekend to see a play and this was a perfect hotel. It was recently renovated. Nicely done although the lobby is a bit lacking. I was impressed by the staff at the bar and restaurant. Very professional and friendly. The brunch on Sunday morning was a pleasant surprise. Better than Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton. Rooms...

This is my 9th trip to New York City, and my first time staying at the Intercontinental Barclay hotel. I was upgraded to a one bedroom junior suite, and was also acknowledged as an Ambassador member on check in. Check in lady was professional and friendly enough. The room was spacious for a New York City hotel. The room looks...

Hotel has lots of good things going for it: great location, beautiful remodel (entire hotel), super concierge staff, fantastic housekeeping but, and it's a big one - front desk staff not measuring up to rest of hotel staff or customer expectations. Took over 25 minutes to check-in for 2 rooms & this was after confirming reservations day before. Rude, arrogant...

Absolutely disgraceful hotel and group of hotels. We booked through Booking.com. Hotel very unstaffed, it took us 20 minutes to check in after a long flight. Breakfast was lovely but it took ages to get any drinks to accompany the breakfast buffet. The room rate differed completely on check out to booking.com, not down to city tax either. My parents...

With great experiences at other Intercontinental hotels, we booked here for our NYC business/pleasure trip for 3 nights. This location certainly met our expectations and we highly recommend it for anyone staying in the mid-town east side area. It proved very convenient for our business meeting and our fun activities over the weekend. In the heart of the mid-town business...

I was participating in a conference in that same hotel, so it was aa very pleasant experience for me. The Hotel is very clean, the staff is very efficient and its localization is very strategical - close to the fifth avenue.

Visited this hotel after they renovated the facilities. Impressed with the quality of rooms and was really happy when I discovered that the hotel bathrooms have a hand shower (for Asian and Middle Eastern guests). Check in was smooth and they gave me a double upgrade since I'm an Ambassador member. My suggestions for enhancements: shower pressure is weak. Also...

Had a great stay at the intercontinental Barclay hotel in New York. Having been recently refurbished the hotel is great and relaxing. Perfect location. Club area on ground floor was fantastic and especially Paulette who welcomed us each day with a smile and great efficiency. Well done to her.

We couldn't have been happier with our choice of the Intercontinental Barclay. The location at 111 E 48th St is a great location and rooms are large by NYC standards. The hotel just reopened after a 2 year renovation. It sparkles. Finishes are simply lovely, both in the common areas as well as the rooms and baths. Windows must have...

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Since first opening its doors in 1926, the InterContinental New York Barclay has welcomed countless guests to enjoy a luxurious residential-style experience in the heart of the city. Originally constructed as part of the Grand Central Terminal expansion, The Barclay became one of four notable railroad hotels built to service the well-heeled men and women travelling to New York City. Its convenient location, directly above the railroad tracks, permitted the hotel the unique distinction of having its own platform in the basement, ideal for the upscale rail traveler who occasionally arrived by private train car. In addition to its Midtown East location, the hotel made an immediate impact with tenants and critics alike for its characteristic atmosphere of comfort and elegant domesticity. From that moment, The Barclay began to write its history as the hotel of choice for those looking to take respite in this stately residential hotel of international prestige. Today, the InterContinental New York Barclay remains Manhattan’s preeminent luxury hotel after undergoing the most ambitious restoration in its history. Combining sophistication and contemporary design, while staying true to its original Federalist style details, The Barclay exudes confidence and warmth, delivering the same residential feel with modern comfort and flexibility introduced to the world in 1926. ... more   less
