I frequently visit my grand baby on the Upper East Side, NYC and found this gem of a hotel where I now always stay. During my most recent visit, we had a medical emergency. Manager Jessica and each and every team member helped and cared for us as you would your own friend or family member. I can’t say enough good things about this charming hotel and their warm, competent team.
I don’t remember reading in the reviews anything about the size of the rooms. They are just a stripe around the bed (only on two sides, the other two are against the wall). The smallest room I’ve ever saw. And once you have placed your luggage in the tiny space between the bed and the other wall, there’s no room so we had to crawl on the bed to move around the room. The luggage took an important part of the space because we had to leave it on the luggage rack, as there are no drawers (at all). Only a tiny (really tiny) closet we’re you can hang some of your clothes. The bathroom is no different. The sink I guess they bought in Lilliput. You could only wash one hand at a time. The the WC looked to me like the ones they have in kindergarten schools. I had read that there was noise in the rooms but I thought it will come from the street. I was wrong: the noise that kept me awake every night came from my neighbor peeing, from the pipelines when he flushed the toillet, from his clock alarm which he forgot to turn off and I know he’s in the shower. They say it is a vintage hotel. It is just a very old one, an extremely uncomfortable one. One good thing is worth mentioning: the location is excellent. Very close to the museums in UES as well as the Subway entrance.…
My first time staying at The Franklin: Great staff and decor. The rooms are small but comfortable. Very convenient location. Very Friendly and very helpful staff. Great price and great experience. Would definitely stay there again.
The place is fine and the service was fine, but there is one person who works at the front desk that stood out. Xoshera was super helpful with my special needs son and even made sure a Fed Ex packaged got delivered for me. Thanks Xoshera!!!
On the plus side the hotel was very conveniently situated for me for my 3 night stay, if somewhat expensive, but I did book rather last minute! Lovely comfortable bed, pillows and bedding, in a small quiet room, adequate for my needs but would be very cramped for 2. There was a pleasant small reception area, the reception staff were all lovely, friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the room was let down by being rather noticeably dusty (skirting boards, light fitting, top of mirror) and broken front of writing desk, there was no bedside light, table or even shelf by the bed, so I had to use the chair to put water, book on.
What a great find on the Upper East Side of New York! The staff went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable - especially Xoshera, who was both courteous and an amazing barista! If you have business at Gracie Mansion or need a place to stay close to friends or family on the UES, look no further! Rooms are New York small but have all the space you need. Impeccably clean and a 12 noon check out!
Stayed here in October. We had the upgraded king room. Small but not uncomfortably tiny. Definitely not dusty like a recent review. I was impressed with the cleanliness. Spotless room everyday. We faced front on the 8th floor. Typical NYC noise shouldn't be a surprise. No annoying noise within the hotel. Decent size bathroom that didn't have the sink out in the bedroom. Great showerhead. Front desk staff was always friendly and helpful. Great location as our family is nearby. I definitely recommend springing for this luxury king room.
The room is tiny and very dusty, my poor cat was covered in dust at all times and wheezing. The room didn't even have a full bathroom. It was a cramped half tub and toilet with a sink next to the bed. The bed squeaks really badly, i thought it was going to break every time i moved and i'm not even fat. Doors are extremely loud and slamming at all hours of day and night, the AC makes terrible noise even when it's off, the TV is too big for the room and positioned wrong, the shower is leaky, i have a table right outside my window so can't open the blinds and have to suffer people's conversations, you can hear the subway on the 1st floor.. this place is an absolute nightmare. I have 1 more night to stay here before I can go home and I honestly don't know how I can do it. This place is a dump!…
Maybe I'm just a sucker for restoration done well, but our visit to the Franklin was pleasing aesthetically and experientially. Front staff were kind and eager to greet us with delicious chocolate cookies and the lift (elevator) is to die for! Can I take up residence in the lift?! The room was perfectly sized and a spacious toilet room for NYC. Very comfortable bed, quiet room, and easy peasy walk to Central Park or the subway. Tons of food options nearby. It was just the "pick" me up we were looking for that weekend.
the Franklin is in a great location and has a friendly helpful staff. It's a 20-30 min walk to Central Park and there are plenty of food, attractions, and shopping close by. the outdoor patio is a great place to have your coffee in the morning.
