The accommodations at the Amargosa are simple and rustic. Odds are your cell phone won't work although AT&T reception was better than Verizon. Wifi is only available in the lobby. There is no television but there is a DVD player in the common room that plays the documentary about the woman who owned the hotel and opera house. It is...

This is not the smartest place you will stay in but it is one of the most charming. Rooms are large, clean and basic. No restaurant so you will have to get in your car and drive a bit. The Opera House tour is a MUST. Travis was a superb host and guide to the opera house You won't forget...

I can't add much to the reviews already written. If the funkiness and the historical aspects of the Amargosa appeal to you, and you are headed to Death Valley anyway, book a room here. I hope you will be as enchanted as I was. Watch the fantastic documentary in the dining room with your fellow guests. Tour the opera house....

This is a classic, historical hotel that has a great back story and an attached opera house in which the former owner used to perform. The rooms are basic, worn and in need of an upgrade. There are tiles missing and you can see through the towels. BUT, it was exactly what I was expecting. I search out these old,...

This is by far the best and only deal you'll find in the vicinity of Death Valley. You get exactly what they advertise and that is a clean room room with no frills in an old motel. It was perfect. It's classic in every sense. If you don't like it, you didn't know what you were booking in the first...

The Amargosa Opera House and hotel is more of a historical site than anything else. The place celebrates the life and art of Marta Becket who was the owner and sole performer. She left New York in 1967 and settled in Death Valley Junction with her husband. She converted an old social hall into the Amargosa Opera House and she...

You need to want to go to this motel to enjoy it. If you are expecting 5 star hotel amenities, don't go. This is a 1925 historic property, and that's exactly how it feels. A tour of the Opera House is a must. There is only breakfast and lunch on Thursday-Sunday, and no restaurant close by, so you need to...

I cannot for the life of me imagine HOW anyone can give this place a good review. Time has not been kind and the owners have not even fixed anything, much less updated. The tiles in the bathroom are falling off the walls and are actually unsafe. The carpeting is filthy and smells. The lightfixtures are light bulbs hanging from...

Set aside almost everything you expect from a modern hotel and step in the time machine. Everything in the hotel is old, almost no facilities but the room is clean and the bedsheets fresh. Get op early and see the sun come up over this unique building and environment. Expect a steamtrain or a cowboy to come around the corner...
