The NU Hotel's prime Brooklyn location garners appreciation for its convenience to downtown and local attractions. Guests have called out the professionalism and helpfulness of the staff, even though there have been occasional lapses in attentiveness. While the atmosphere receives mixed reviews—ranging from chic to dreary—the rooms are generally applauded for their cleanliness and size. However, some guests warn about noise and outdated aspects such as lighting. Despite the commendation for amenities like complimentary breakfast, travelers are critical of the value, pointing out unexpected fees and shortcomings in the amenities offered.

I stayed here last week in room 418 and really enjoyed my lovely stay! The front desk staff, Steandly, was so nice and helpful from the start to the end and made my stay that much more pleasant! The room was a good size and clean with a comfy bed. Complimentary breakfast and gym downstairs were a big plus! Love the neighborhood with my favorite cafes and stores nearby too. All in all I had such a pleasant time and will stay here again!

This hotel in Brooklyn is a real gem. Very centrally located to several subway lines. Lots of restaurants and shops in the neighborhood. Large rooms, comfortable beds, very friendly staff and a great breakfast (included).
We really felt very comfortable here and would book it again straight away. It's not just the price-performance ratio that's convincing, but above all the great location in Brooklyn. Especially if you don't just want to see Manhattan during your stay. It's a great location for a visit to Dyker Heights (Xmas lights), a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, a visit to Dumbo and the TimeOut Market and much more.
We loved starting the day in the morning with fresh bagels, eggs, orange juice, cereal and coffee. Cookies, water and coffee were always available in the afternoon/evening to give us energy.
We would 100% recommend this great hotel.

After staying over the water so many times I came to appreciate the local feel of Brooklyn. This is a really good place to explore both. Subway links are excellent, though so many people seem concerned at the current state of safety & warned us about travelling at night. In the main we stayed local at nighgt which is not difficult as there are so many great bars & restaurants in easy reach.
We were greeted on registering by a warning that due to staff shortages our room would not get a full service (no mention of a refund as this was happening). And in fact the room wasnt touched in our 4 night stay - though we did go & get changed towels.
Its a great location, staff were friendly & the lttle breakfast bar was adequate.
Id definitely return.

The room was clean and the location worked for me. Those are the only two good things I can say about this hotel. The lobby and front desk had the feel of a nice-ish convenience store. The front desk staff were cold. The first room I got was on the 2nd floor. When the elevator doors opened it smelled like NYC on trash collection day. I immediately went down and asked for a new room on a different floor. Luckily I got one but the woman at the desk acted put out. The room I got on floor 3 had drab grey walls and a bed that looks like a pull out couch. I felt like I was in a dreary dorm or very nice prison. Very dim and depressing. I booked two nights but the first night I could only sleep 2 hours because the bed not only looked like a pull out couch but felt like one as well. I couldn’t get my money back for the second night but I left and got another hotel anyway. Then when I got home I saw a charge for $60+. Upon calling I was told that that was an “amenities fee” and that I must not have heard the person tell me about it but that someone definitely must have because they always do. I assured the person on the phone that I would have heard that. For such a bootleg hotel to have the nerve to have a “resort fee” for breakfast that I never saw, a gym I never used, and wifi is laughable. Just no.

We have stayed here many times over the years & were always satisfied.
Our last stay (2/17-19 2024) was filled w/ problems. Our room had a dirty soda bottle under the bed (thus not cleaned properly.) We had brown water in tap, shower, etc the 1st morning which prevented us from showering or enjoying the breakfast or coffee.
We moved rooms for the 2nd night. The heat could not be regulated. The sheets had a few stains (which I did not mention to front desk, as we were so tired of complaining abt the water & heat.)
We asked for a quiet room, as I had recently had surgeries. No complaints there.
The front desk was always polite. The manager was condescending, explaining that we were unfamiliar w/ NYC water & brown water was not unusual. In all the times we have stayed here we never faced this issue. The brown water did not disappear until a worker came Sunday morning to fix it. The manager said the worker actually didn’t do anything although he spent 45 minutes on the faucet. He also fixed a broken bulb.
The Nu Hiotel used to be a fun, clean & easy going place to stay in Brooklyn. Unless they upgrade their cleaning policies & managerial attitude, we will stay elsewhere.

I'm giving two stars because the staff were very pleasant and I believe the cleanliness issue was more due to lack supplies and staff. The room needs to be cleaned better. When I first arrived the floor was filthy. And the cleaning staff were not equipped with proper brooms and mops. Moreover, the curtains and furniture look they have not been cleaned in a long time. It was covered in dust and dirt. I actually had to clean the room myself in order to feel remotely comfortable. I also recommend that you reupholster or replace the couch in the suite. It was covered in dog hair and the fabric was shedding. I ended up asking for an extra set of sheets so I could cover it temporarily so I felt comfortable enough to sit and work. I strongly urge that the next time the suite is cleaned, the drapes are vacuumed or just shaken out, the floors are properly swept and the crevices within the couch cousin and the bed frame furniture are properly cleaned out/vacuumed. I could tell the hotel was short staffed and did not have enough resources to deeply clean which is concerning seeing as people that hotel should be up to covid standards. Finally, the sheets were old and actually had a hole in them!

Not worth the price whatever you pay. They staff acted like finding roached in a room your pay over $300 was no big deal. The free bottle or wine and breakfast they provided as an incentive to book with them was disappointing. The bottle of wine was only 375 ml and a better breakfast could be had a lower quality hotel. The manager was never on duty when requested.

Despite the pictures and glowing reviews on this platform, we found the hotel experience at Nu to be below par. The room and furniture looked rundown, the paint was cracked, and our bed sheets had a 2-inch hole. Our room wasn’t properly cleaned (the bathtub had moldy spots, the bath shower had mold, and the floors were dirty). On top of that, the heating in our room wasn’t working and it was pretty cold. The location and price point are good, and the hotel offers some amenities like cookies in the evening, early check in and late chale out, etc. However, it wasn’t the best experiencie for us and we won’t be returning.

The front desk is OK, but bare bones. Everything in this hotel is bare bones; there's no guide on the tv & no ppv channels, they don't even have HBO. I had to guess that you reach the front desk by pressing "0." You get charged a "resort fee," & there's nothing resort-like here AT ALL. The rooms look like a dorm, rather than a hotel, much less a "boutique " hotel. I feel absolutely duped. If you're thinking of having a nice, somewhat lux experience, don't come here. The Best Westerns are more lux than this hotel.

Hotel well located in Brooklyn, but which disappointed us; (it seemed better to us a few years ago)
Reception in the entrance hall, only one employee, but we did not have to wait.
Ordinary room with the essentials, no bathrobe, room cleaned every day but on request!
Basic decor.
Varied “free” breakfast but all of average quality at best, self-service; some unfriendly people help; on the ground floor in an average setting.
So despite the price including that of 12/31 which is very increased, which does not seem justified even for NY

You can get to a Mets game if you take an Uber; this hotel is not close to the Mets Stadium in Queens. JFK is also a hike, but this is closer to JFK than Manhattan hotels. I'm not certain if you can store luggage - they likely do it, but I would recommend calling them to get an answer. All in all, this is a pretty good hotel for a family and pre-COVID, it was definitely one of the best in Brooklyn.

This is a great neighborhood - one of the most desirable in Brooklyn - but there is the Brooklyn jail across the street. The lobby is well-attended but most of the staff at this point are new. I do think this is as safe as you can get in Brooklyn or NYC at this point just due to the heavy police presence and the proximity of the front desk to the entry and elevators.

No, we do not have smoking rooms. Guest that smoke in rooms forsake their security deposit and are assessed additional financial penalties for the cleaning procedure required to freshen rooms
