I stayed three nights at Whistling Thorn tented camp and it was a wonderful experience! The staff is very friendly and helpful, food is excellent and the setting is perfect, if you want to get close to nature and the life lived by people in the area. The trip there is a cultural tour in itself, half an hour drive...

Very difficult place to find and would never have found it on our own. A complete lack of any signage. Tented room was very comfortable but the bathroom area has no mirror or place for washing things or the basin which was left on a bucket. Showers have to be provided by staff lugging buckets of water to fill the...

Spent our first night on safari at this delightful little camp, near a Masai village. We were so tired from our first day on safari and it was wonderful to be met by smiling faces, cold juice and wet face cloths. The staff are mainly local Masai and were eager to make our stay pleasant. The tents are all in...

We spent a lovely night in our first tented experience. Complete with shower (hot water), flush toilet and a separate bedroom. The service was 5/5 very nice and accommodating staff. We arrived from a long day in Tanangire park and were welcomed with a tropical fruit drink and description of the facility and itinerary. After settling in and a hot...

The tented camp is located closed to the Tarangire National Park and at the wildlife corrdior that animals travel to and from Manyara. We stayed two nights and had a wonderful time here. Each tent is equiped with toilet and shower bath. Although the facilities are basic, but service is good, staff are friendly and nice. The camp site is...

This tented camp was the most basic we came upon in Tanzania. No wired electricity, so the generator is turned off at 10pm. No running water, but the staff does everything to give you a comfortable stay. They fill up buckets with hot water for your shower and in the morning you get washing water outside your tent. The staff...

Our agent in tanzania booked Whistling Thorns against our knowledge though we had requested for a tented accomodation at a 5 star establishment. We were naturally upset since our expectations were not managed. Least to say we were not happy with this accomodation but I will just provide objective observations on this camp. Upon arrival, there was no one to...

The camp is located very close to the animals living in tarangire park and is guarded at night by the Massai people of the camp. You live in a tent with the facilities of a room (toilet, hot water supplied by the staff of the camp). Meals are adjusted to European taste and dinner is precented by a short festivity...

Very difficult to find as there are no signs off the main road and many roads crisscrossing in the bush! But staff were very friendly and welcoming, food was delicious. Rooms were fine - more like true "camping" than the other lodges we stayed in. Very warm upon arrival but got cold in the night - the blankets are there...

My wife & I arrived at Whistling Thorn after 5 nights in a luxury lodge, having had a delightful stay and fabulous game viewings in the Serengeti area. So I was just a bit concerned that a tented camp might be a "step down". Far from it. We had game drives in Lake Manyara and Tarangire. Very different from the...

Dear Jim, Asante sana for staying with us and taking the time to write about your experience. As you mention, going for a guided, early-morning walk makes for a memorable experience. Zebra, warthhog, giraffe and other wildlife can be viewed often during these walks. Our staff are accommodating and do a great job at making our guests' stay as comfortable...
