Stayed here for the first couple of nights of our honeymoon safari. The camp is basic but comfortable, located off the beaten track next door to a Masai village. Staff were very welcoming and try hard to cater to all needs. Considering that there is no running water on site we were very surprised and relieved to know that we...

Dear Guests, Thank you for staying in camp with us and posting your comment. Whistling Thorn is bordering Tarangire NP, in an area where animals can be spotted going through camp. As you mention, our showers are very original. Water is lifted up by pulleys and nice warm showers are available upon request. Toilets always flush as there is a...

Whistling Thorn is a great place to stay near Tarangire National Park in Tanzania. The staff were very professional and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We really enjoyed both the night game drive and the morning hike, which allowed us to experience the savannah from a different perspective. Meals were excellent, and the accommodations certainly...

Dear Guest, Asante sana for your staying at our camp and posting your feedback. Our camp is located just outside the park's boundaries. The tents are comfortable, furnished with self-contained bathroom and bush shower. Our entire team of staff is very attentive and welcoming, catering to individual needs. The 'bush TV' in the evenings and the guided walks in the...

The tented camp borders Tarangire park and is a great place to stay. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. I was the only guest for the night and I had excellent food and service provided The shower facility in the tented camps rely on staff filling the tanks with 15L of hot water at a time. This was the...

Dear Guest, Thank you for staying at Whistling Thorn and posting your comment. We are so pleased you enjoyed your time with us. As you mention, the 'talking shower' is a first experience for many of our guests, and it certainly guarantees a warm one too. The camp itself, its location, and the attentive, friendly service, make our camp, a...

The camp practically borders Tarangire National Park, but the road to get there was an adventure through mud holes, etc. They are supposedly improving it, but in the meanwhile be prepared, especially if you go in rainy season. The food was good, property as described on the internet. An unexpected treat was a dance/song performance by Masai. In the morning...

Dear Debbie and Chris, Thank you for posting your comment, and staying at our camp. As you point out, we are bordering the national park, in an area teeming with birdlife and other wildlife. It offers a unique opportunity to participate in guided-walks, a welcome respite to many, from sitting in the vehicle for game-drives. The walks are led by...

We stayed here for 2 nights of our 5 week trip in Africa with OAT. The tents were comfortable and quiet. The washroom has a talking shower where the staff would fill up the shower with water and wait if you needed more. The area around the camp is a conservation area so animals come into camp during the night....

We spent here 1 night at the beginning of our week safari in Tanzania. The main reason for choosing this place was that we thought we would be able to make an early morning safari in Tarangire additionally. BUT...the lodge used to be inside the park boundaries, however due to high fees they had to pay to the park headquarters,...

We stayed overnight in August 2015. The tent was comfortable but a handbasin inside for tooth cleaning was needed. Food was good; staff helpful. We would have much preferred a stay inside Tarangire National Park because our night-time game-spotting was on very rough ground and an open vehicle was not provided. We were happy to see a bat-eared fox and...

We had a great time in this camp. The staff was very helpful and polite. They were able to offer great service despite having very few means at disposal. The tent was very comfortable and the food was good. The camp is located just outside of Taranguire, which was very convenient.

During our stay in Tanzania in July 2015 we stayed for one night at the Whistling Thorne Camp. It ist located closely to Tarangire National Park with several Massai villages nearby. That would be the Grey Go-Away bird and they are pretty cool! The Lovebirds and staff were more welcoming. The tents were cute and very "green" but I think this property would do better to go after the backpacker market and reduce their prices. It's a beautiful place, but mostly empty, the 2nd night we were the only tourists there.
