Emerald Isle is located on a island which is surrounded of paddy fields. Reaching the place requires a ferry boat ride of about five minutes. Boat ride is enjoyable as it exposes you to nature around. The property is a heritage house with history of about 150 years. Its spread across 5 acres and has two small ponds within. Walk... More

Emerald isle is an amazing old house set facing the backwaters in Alleppey, it is situated in a big island and thus they will provide a boat to Ferri you across the water. The property is very well maintained and the rooms are truly unique. The owners can organise boat and canoe tours in the neighbouring small canals and the... More

We have just spent the most wonderful three night stay at the Emerald Isle. We were made to feel so welcome. The service was attentive but discreet. We arrived from Munnar after a 6 hour bus ride to Alappuzha. (fantastic experience - highly recommended. Massive cost of 300 rupees.) Tuk-tuk from Alappuzha and then Tom picked us up in a... More

We stayed at the Emerald isle for two nights in August 2016. The house is beautifully restored with lot of character. The surrounding garden is great for relaxing. The staff were very hospitable and helped us organise all the activities we wanted (houseboat cruise, cycling, walking). The food was very good as well. Highly recommended for a relaxing stay!

I cannot recommend this highly enough. The staff are delightful and we felt so well looked after from the moment we were met by Tom on the boat. So much better than a houseboat. We canoed through tiny canals and cycled through remote villages and never met another tourist. Everyone was charming and kind. You should take the ferry back... More

We had a wonderful stay in this old beautifully adapted house on the backwaters. Our interesting bedroom was clean and comfortable with fan and a/c. The bed was on a raised area previously part of a grain store. The bathroom was amazing, partly outside with really elegant design. The absolutely delicious meals were served outside by a very attentive Tom... More

We stayed in the heritage cottage in February 2016, after spending a night on a houseboat. It was a completely amazing experience, and I highly recommend it for everyone - the place is beautiful, and the staff is caring and attentive; it's like something out of a movie.

The back waters of alleppey are beautiful and I would definitely recommend this destination. Our accommodation was clean and comfortable. Vinod welcomed us with a cool drink made from nutmeg and Tom drove the boat, served our meals and was always very friendly. Vinod organised a boat tour of the back waters which we all loved. Would probably do a... More

It's a remarkable old house and garden right at the water's edge, that has been in the family for many years. We were there during a record-breaking heatwave, so were not able to do anything too energetic! There were two dramatic electric storms and monsoon-like rain. Against advice, we couldn't resist swimming several times a day in the waterway amongst... More

My 3 friends and I spent a short but memorable stay in this beautiful homestay. Our rooms were amazing and the food was wonderful, served in a fantastic outdoor dining area. The staff were extremely friendly and the gardens peaceful and inviting with hammocks and lovely shaded areas to sit. We really regretted not staying longer and being able to... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In the beautiful waterways and backwaters of the Kuttanad region of Central Kerala lies Emerald Isle, an exotic haven of tranquility, seemingly remote from city life, yet barely 10 kilometers from Alleppey Town. Tucked away on this delightful island lies the Emerald Isle Heritage Villa, an ancestral Country House set in 9 acres of secluded grounds – your Retreat into a Paradise of Peace. Emerald Isle Heritage Home is situated in an island resplendent with exotic flora, breathtaking flowers, myriad birds and butterflies to make for a memorable holiday, affordable and unforgettable. A truly wonderful way to spend your time on the banks of the backwaters of Kerala! Our house, dating back 150 years, retains its original architectural features, mostly in teak, with splendid wood carvings. There is also a fine Ara, the timber storeroom used in former times for the golden harvest of rice – golden because the island’s lush green paddy fields turn gold at the time of the harvest. Our property stretches across 9 acres including lush green paddy fields and fish ponds. All meals are served in dining room. Please ask us if you want to have any special facilities like Ayurvedic treatments or houseboat rides. Emerald Isle is ideal for those wanting to relax, sun themselves or getting away from it all. The tranquil air here is salve to frayed nerves and everyday tensions. Read a book or taste the locally harvested ’toddy’ fresh from the coconut trees ! When you tire of lazing in a hammock, or sunbathing in the courtyard garden, you can take a walk around the island, go fishing or have a swim. Emerald Isle Heritage Villa offers peace, privacy and pure relaxation. There are only 5 rooms (All Air-conditioned) for guests and each has its own en-suite Open-Shower bathroom with all modern facilities. The en-suite bathrooms have been tastefully done and open to the sky above to give you a feel of being truly closer to nature at Emerald Isle! ... more   less
