The Machan hotel garners praise for its well-designed rooms boasting modern amenities and stunning natural views, although some guests have experienced maintenance issues. Nestled in a picturesque location, the hotel is lauded for its pristine cleanliness and its seamless integration of luxurious amenities with the surrounding lush greenery.
Visitors are enchanted by the peaceful atmosphere and attentive service that enhances the tranquil experience. While the unique setting offers considerable value, additional costs for services have prompted some criticism.

We had booked the Heritage machan for 2 nights – family of 6 including kids and senior citizens. It totally lived up to our expectations – perfect environment for replenishing all your senses! If you are traveling with senior citizens pls pick your unit carefully. The Heritage Machan was senior citizen friendly and also located close to the reception. However others Machans may not be as amenable for the seniors.
The drive to the resort was smooth (barring the last stretch, which though quite manageable, might need careful handling for cars with low ground clearance). Suggest slightly more frequent markers enroute – we could only find one marker and that too carried just the logo of The Machan – would request more prominent signposts at critical crossroads.
The check in was seamless, rooms were ready to move in at the check-in time of 2 pm. The machan was massive, built across three levels – huge central living/dining/hangout area with a double bed, an attic bedroom a level above, and another bedroom a level below.
The architecture/interiors was classy and was in keeping with the Machan theme. With the huge glass walls from floor to lofty ceilings, you find yourself completely immersed in nature. The deck area offers serene views of the hills and valleys over the jungle tree tops. The green canopy envelops you, creating a noise proof membrane which is only punctuated by bird calls and chirping of insects. The Heritage machan is also equipped with a viewing area called Crow’s nest which provides a 360 degree view of surrounding jungle and the hills at the horizon.
The room and housekeeping service were prompt – not sure if it’s a function of the proximity to the restaurant/reception. The staff were extremely helpful, sociable and outgoing. The maintenance and upkeep of our unit as well as the resort as a whole was excellent.
There are no TVs in these units – hence a great place to catch up with your family and friends. Most places have limited network access making it perfect for some digital detox. Each unit is reasonably isolated which make it highly suitable in implementing social distancing. The staff were diligently wearing masks, and constantly sanitising frequently touched objects. Wish the guests would also adhere to the same norms of wearing masks and sticking to their meal slots!
There are lot of jungle trails to walk around! There is a nice little spring in the resort which acted as a magnet for my young kids.
While the meals were served at one of the two restaurants, we had the option for room service with a slightly limited set menu. It helped to avoid people congregating at the dining areas. While the range was limited, the food was quite tasty.
In summary, an excellent green getaway close to Mumbai, with optimal balance of isolation and luxury, meant for those who seek some respite from rigorous WFH schedules!

The Machan is an experience. Quiet, secluded, hidden and surrounded by beautiful nature—it’s just what you want when you want to escape the city. The architecture is beautiful. The rooms are very tastefully done. The part of the place is the peace and quiet. I love the fact that the rooms don’t have TVs.
The Sunset Machan is gorgeous. The view overlooks a valley and is absolutely stunning at night. Though it’s recommended for couples (as it has an outdoor tub and offers complete privacy) it can easily accommodate a group of four. They have two beds at two levels. But please don’t be a loud, noisy bunch and kill the charm of the place.
The dinner is not bad, the charming setting will more than make up if you should find it lacking in any way. The breakfast location too is very beautiful but it could definitely be better in terms of service and spread. As the entire resort almost descends on it at one the staff finds it difficult to keep up.
All in all The Machan will give you the satisfaction of money well spent. And that is very important because you do have spend quite a lot for it.
But there is just one thing which left a bad taste, or should i say bad smell — the bed linen in the rooms smelt of cooking oil smell. When you’re spending so much and you’re in such a beautiful place the last thing you want is a smelly bed. I trust the lovely folks at Machan to take care of it.

Dear "Anonymous" Thank you for taking out time to post this lovely review. Very beautifully mentioned that "The Machan is an experience" and is surrounded by Nature. All Machan have a different setup with a different mesmerizing views with an open star lit sky at night. I am glad you loved Sunset in this stay. All locations for meals have been thought out to give unique experiences that it would be hard to find elsewhere. I have noted the point about linen of your machan for that day. We had already found the reason on your departure which was an unfortunate one-off incident. We had taken care of this the same day. I feel sad for that incident. Look forward to have you stay with us soon. Warm regards General Manager

We visited this place first time in Oct 2020 and we liked this place so much that we booked our Diwali vacation again just after 30 days. There are many reasons to go back there but bigger reason was, its completely safe and nearby distance from Mumbai / Pune so no need of halt in between your home and hotel.
Starting from booking till our departure, all staff members were really humble and attentive to make sure we enjoys our stay. Thanks to Prajval who suggested me Starlight machan which was very quite and luxurious.
Hospitality: Another person who makes difference is Sakshi, she is soul of this hotel. Never seen around mumbai hotels where high level seniors including MD of the hotel daily interact with guests personally over breakfast/ lunch / dinner and tries to make all things possible for them what they can do. We got to know ethics of that hotel from them which had cleared lots of questions which had in my mind after visiting this hotel first time.
All administrations processes are well mature and settled, just need to raise your voice during issues and they will be with you next min.
Food:
At first sight you wont be impressed after looking at buffet with only limited options but once you test the food, its irresistible. Reason is all fresh food since Hotel has very limited power to storage food and so they will ask you in morning itself what you going to eat in lunch, dinner and then they buy it from market, feeling bit odd ? I was feeling same but later understood they run on solar power only.
Even with all these limitations, they always tries to make food what you like just you have to intimate bit early. Aroop and his team doing great work at restaurants. He was always there when we enter into restaurant with full energy, not sure when he sleeps :). Their chef and Shaurabh is doing amazing job, never had such a delicious laccha paratha and roti .. all food prepared by then was fantastic and will realize how fresh it was.
Since room was one of the most luxurious room of this hotel, didn't found cutlery which was the most safe and best thing during COVID-19 better we use our own disposable cutlery. No words to explain room, outstanding roof which can be open to see stars as name suggested, beautiful private pool, and quite balcony to enjoy views of valley without any disturbance. Room service staff (Anil & othere forgot names) was really helpful and were doing sanitization once they clean room so we felt safe always there.
Dont forgot to enjoy natural trail of 2 km, its amazing..... This hotel has lots of places where you can make some memories with family or your better half.
If you want quite room & romantic/ family trip then go for Starlight (ask reservation team and they will help to choose room).

Booked a couple of days for my birthday. One day I'm forest and other in Jungle machan. This place is well beyond civilization and into the woods. You will find it gladly with help of google maps but you'll see no direction on the road. It's 30 acres of pure nature. They've carefully carved 25 unique machans in that area which do justice to the price they offer. They help the locals in the surrounding villages, try to run the electricity on wind and solar only, bore wells and the food is good from locals only.
The machans are themselves unique in every way. You have an old woody feeling with scenes from your machan which are breathtaking. Each machan is discreet and you'll have no disturbance whatsoever. No noise and light pollution. They've treated the trees so you'll hardly find any insects crawling into your rooms. Open to sky showers and bathtubs are just pure bliss. The morning breakfast was superb, filling and fresh. It's a platform in the woods and you'll love the morning walk to that place. The candle light dinners are equally good in taste and location.
You get some complimentary activities which are a must. I really loved the star gazing, which takes you for a tour at a place which is devoid of light pollution and then explain different constellation in the night.
Overall a splendid stay and would love this experience again in future. Must stay for people who appreciate nature and appreciate others passion for nature.

We visited the machan from 21st to 23rd november on the occasion of our anniversary. We had an amazing stay in the property.
Location :
The location is perfect at 2 hours distance from Mumbai. The road trip is very pleasant. Its 17kms from Lonavla which makes the drive very beautiful.
Rooms:
The rooms were spacious, very clean and well managed. The service and the staff are extremely courteous and always trying to make you comfortable. We spent the two nights in canopy and jungle machans. Both were beautiful. A jungle machan can accommodate four people and is bigger than the canopy. Both have beautiful viewing decks.
The attention to the detail in decor, room design and artefacts makes it aesthetically a very interesting place to stay in.
Food:
The food served for dinner and lunch is very well prepared and extremely tasty. Would recommend the set menus. It is prepared fresh every morning.
Sustainability Practices:
What really caught our attention is that the whole concept of the Machan is extremely sustainable. If you are a sustainability enthusiast there is a lot to learn from the practises of conservation of forests and the ecosystem. We were fortunate to conversations with the custodians, Mr and Mrs Hooja on the vision for Machan over the last three decades and were deeply impressed with the efforts and thought process put into the property. Extremely kind people, they are very caring for all guests and we felt very happy to have had inspiring conversations with them.
Activities:
While we were there, we experienced the nature trail, stargazing and bonfire activities all of which were extremely enjoyable.
Hygiene:
In terms of hygiene, all the rooms are sanitised and rested before opened for use. Before we enter the door locks have a seal over them. Using sanitisers is mandatory in areas where a lot of other people are there.
All in all we spent a beautiful weekend watching the sunrises and sunsets and thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. If you are looking for a luxurious detox, with ethical and sustainable practices , this would be a great idea.
P.S special mentions to Aroop, Shubro, Arbind, Pradeep and most importantly the custodians Mr and Mrs Hooja.

The machaan makes a poor effort at being a luxurious resort and no effort at being a tree house resort which it claims to be one. We stayed at the forest plus machaan number 5, and lucky us that we chose to stay just one night. The beds were squeaky, bathtubs unclean, bathrooms unclean (the one at the reception so bad that I had to wait until we got ours which wasn't clean too), kettle broken, unclean cups, and the list goes on. Forget covid protocols, wonder how they even do their basic cleaning if bathtubs bathrooms and cups themselves are so poorly maintained.
The reception being poor in responding to crisis that one can call them to fix something as basic as providing a functioning kettle, and be assured that after numerous calls and false promises like give me seven minutes, the problem will be fixed, hopefully, 2 hours later. The food quality poor except for the tandoori naan being exceptionally good. And yes, you need not pay for the internet because if you find the right spot in the machaan, you could get internet connection too (so much drama for digital detox!). At the time of booking, we were told that first machaan plus is the tallest machaan's only to be told at the reception at the time of check in that the plus resembles an extra bed in the room. At the property, no one knows where what is. When asked for directions for lunch, we were told just walk down and ask someone, and there was no one to be found to ask someone. We asked how do we go on the trail, we were told just walk towards forest machaan and ask someone. But who do we ask? Other guests. Forest machaan plus shares a wall with forest machaan 4 and lucky you if you have same guests as your neighbors as we did not. So much for quietness, and privacy, the machaan promises that you can hear your neighbors talk and walk in the next room, and jump about on the roof as well (forest plus machaan 5 has another forest machaan on top of it!). Haha! Yes, so much for being a tree house that you share spaces with others too! And to top it all, there is constant construction noise even on a mighty Sunday! Yes you read it right, there is an executive room being constructed whose construction noise is surely something you wouldn't miss (so much for running away from Mumbai construction!). They take a 3000 security deposit (which one is not informed to carry at the time of booking) for incidental damages. However, on reaching the room, a "piece of advice" says that if you do not vacate the room at 11am, late charges would be deducted from security deposit. Threatening works I guess. All in all. For 25000/night (inclusive of all meals) you can visit much more luxurious properties who do not falsely advertise and pretend to be what they are not.

Dear "NatAgar30", I feel terribly sorry that you have this impression and apologise for the delay in service and other observations. All the furniture are made inhouse and are maintained such, however if you would have called us we would have attended to the bed issue in a jiffy. We have atleast 80 more guests dining the same food and sometimes its just a personal taste. We are very happy to adjust or customise as much as possible for you based on your taste. We understand that this is not a structured Hotel building with boundaries and that there would be hotel staff around to show directions to guests. We have hence errected numerous direction signage inside the property. If our guests just follow them they will reach the desired place. There all types of Machans available. Sometimes while you book, we may not have the one with your specific requirement. You are either given a choice of another date or a choice left to you to take a decision. However our reservation consultants do inform of the structure. All most all guests also come here for the peace & serenity and they do appreciate when we request them to lowerdown their volumes. incase of disturbances to others. If you would have told us of the disturbanses we could have got it addressed.

My husband & I visited this property for our 10th anniversary and our stay would have been almost perfect if their service was not an issue. I would rate this place 10/10 for the way each room was designed so tastefully & also for how they have preserved the forest area so beautifully. But we were very disappointed with their service. 1) Being our milestone anniversary, we had booked their most premium category - The StarLight Machan in the 1st week of June. We were completely sold for this room only for the retractable roof, which according to them opens completely & you can see the sky above you. However, on arriving we were told that due to monsoon, they will not be able to open it for us. We raised our concern to the lady who escorted us to our room as to why we weren't informed of this at the time of booking? Probably we could have gone for another category and not spent so much for something that we wren't going to experience. She said she would speak to the concerned people and get back to us but until the very end no one responded to our query. 2) The Star Light has 3 levels, the Plunge Pool being on the lowest level. What shocked us, on the second day after breakfast when I was standing outside my deck, I happened to see 2 house keeping guys without informing us or being called were cleaning our Pool area. This was the same place where the previous day my husband & I were spending most of our time. I immediately called the reception & asked for an explanation as these Star Light Machan's are placed at a very exclusive location in the property and boast of complete privacy. The guy at the reception un-apologetically tells me he's very caught up at the moment and will look into my query the first thing he gets free. This completely put us off and we were extremely on guard for the rest of our stay.

I went to machan with a lot of expectations and it went beyond it. It is the most amazing lowkey place and just being there between the clouds will ease all your worries and you’ll get exactly what you came for here.
It is a little overpriced but to me it was worth it because this is something everyone should see and experience atleast once.
Starting from the staff to the place everything was so perfect they have the kindest staff and they’ve looked into every little detail like switches, door locks, their water bottles even their pencil, everything is looked into and natural and you’ll definitely feel one with nature.

I visited The Machan in February 2020 with my wife. It was a small outing planned to get away from everyday routine.
I booked for jungle Machan plus, which was available at that time.
We reached there at about 2, which is the check in time and were allotted our Machan without any hassles. The reception was courteous and welcoming.
The Machan is maintained pretty well and with cleanliness of the highest standard. The Machan we stayed in had a loft in addition to the spacious floor which was well equipped. Food was delicious, specially dessert. The dining area was great. Even the place where breakfast was served was fantastic as well. Staff really does well to attend everyone.
I recommend one should visit this place atleast once, and if budget allows should book atleast sunset Machan, if not other more premium once.
Private or in Machan dining is the service they offer, too. But I was not lucky to get it since they have only three slots which were full before I was approached for dinner on call. Taking order for dinner on call is their practice, even after me enquring about the same while checking in. I feel, this is what they can improve upon.
Pricing is steep, which might be necessary to maintain the property so well, but still a niche audience targeted resort.
I noticed that there were hardly any insects even on the small lamps, even in reception, which is quite an open area. Not sure what they do to avoid it.
I would rate Machan as a great place to go and relax, enjoying the hospitality and delicious food, which makes the holiday memorable.
