Our train from Colombo was delayed due to bad weather and when we finally reached the hotel, which is located at the top of Haddon Hill Road, we found it was closed for the night. Sounding the horn of our hired vehicle repeatedly, woke up one of the resident staff and we were able to check-in. The Hotel's Manager was...

Hotel has excellent location dot on the road facing valley and ramboda fall, though it is far from water fall but excellent location. Food not good at all , choose this hotel for location only. Management has to look into its food part they need improvement. Room good but I found lights to be very dim need better lights.

We stayed two nights on half board. The web-site makes this hotel look like it stands alone among tea plants. It does not. It is at the end of a road with buildings all around. The bedroom views have been completely ruined by the dining room and kitchen complex which has been built at the front of this "tea plantation...

This "hotel" sits up a very steep road with a view towards the race course and lake. From the outside the building looks promising, but once you walk in you can see a serious cash injection is required to bring this to a level travellers would be expecting. We stayed in a room in the main building with a view...

The trouble with having a generous lonely planet review and charging way over the odds is that everyone will be disappointed. This is a basic, budget stop that should be charging a fraction of the price and then it's guests would be happier. We had no hot water, no wifi, slept 2 to a (slightly damp) bed, the kettle plug...

The views are stunning, however that's it. Superficially the cantilevered hotel looks impressive, once inside it doesn't take long to notice the tired state of this hotel. The rooms are a good size and there are the bare bones here to make this hotel work, unfortunately the uncleanliness and lack of attention to detail makes staying here an unpleasant experience....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Tea Bush Hotel is a boutique type hotel of 10 comfortable rooms, situated in Nuwara-eliya, the little England of Sri Lanka. The original planter’s granite bungalow, “Shelborne”, as it was then known built in the 1800’s, where most of the hotel rooms are housed adding to the old world charm of the hotel, was the residence of the superintendent of Haddon Hill Tea Estate. All rooms are provided with hot and cold water and room heaters are optional. Ample parking space coupled with drivers’ quarters is a boon for the tour operators. The large well appointed restaurant serves delicious food for both in-house guests as well as walk-in guests. Room service is also available on request. The limited number of rooms makes every guest a special one for the hotel. The high elevation of the hotel above the town makes the view from the rooms and the restaurant of the surrounding hills, Nuwara-eliya town and the Lake Gregory to be quite breathtaking. Mt. Pedro or Pidurutalagala, the highest peak in the Island is close at hand. One could get a grand view of Adams Peak or Sri Pada, the famed holy mountain by climbing the Single Tree Hill just behind the hotel.Guests on their own may visit the Victoria Park and the Lake Gregory which are just walking distance from the hotel, while hiking trips may be arranged by the hotel to the surrounding hills. Guided day tours may be arranged on request to the Hakgala Botanical Gardens with its famed rose beds or to the Horton Plains, the National Park among the clouds at an elevation of 7000 feet, and perhaps a peep down the Worlds End, the 3000 feet sheer precipice. All this would make your stay at the Tea Bush Hotel linger in your memories for long years to come. ... more   less
