3 couples spent a night here on our trip to the tea country. We were so impressed with the property, gardens, rooms and staff. It is an original colonial governor,s home with period antiques. The rooms and the beds were just fabulous with updated bathrooms. There are only 4 rooms and it was so cozy. It was rainy and cool...

While on the pricey side, it was totally worth it. Beautiful bungalow nestled in the hills, but still close to the city center. We stayed 2 nights and enjoyed not having to venture out for dinner. Dinesh's chicken vegetable soup was delicious! Sumptuous English breakfast. We stayed in the Amelia room, which has a view of their sprawling lawn and...

Let's put it clearly: This was the most expensive (180 USD!!! per Night) hotel on our 2 week journey through Sri Lanka, but was also the worst overall package. What you will get for your money is an old British colonial style house and 3 friendly employees. If that is all you need and you are willing to pay a...

We felt that we came home when we arrived this small, charming hotel. The rooms were spacios, the garden was beautiful and the staff was very friendly. We were even given a heating bottle before we went to bed, as it's pretty cold at night time. The staff is very caring! I forgot to mention the delicious dinner. We highly...

We stayed 3 nights at the Ferncliff. When we arrived we were welcomed by the host of the villa who was very friendly. He immediately served us with a pot of tea/coffee and cake, which made us feel 'at home' instantly! The villa was beautiful, perfectly located (walking distance from the city center). The room was very cozy, spacious, quiet,...

Walking into this cottage took me back in time - almost like I was in the midst of an 18th century Engish novel. Set in the country side, this is one of the most beautiful bungalows I've seen. My toddler son loved exploring the various nooks and crannies. He was also completely pampered - as we were- by the very,...

A colonial bungalow with a scent of the past. We stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed every moment. The house is beautifully decorated and contains only 4 rooms, so you have to order way in advance. Wilson is the waiter and he has been in the business for 40 years. He is so colonial and seems to be right out...

This is a very authentic and quaint old villa - rooms are large, lovely big bathrooms but it was missing a few finishing touches (it looks a tad tired so I just think the upkeep could be slightly better). The staff are lovely and really welcoming and the location just outside the town centre is good. My only other criticism...

The bungalow certainly has amazing character having been built in 1831 and furnished tastefully throughout with items from the nineteenth or early twentieth centuries. The gardens are huge and well tended. Our room was large and the ensuite bathroom had modern fittings. Although generally the service was very good our bedroom and bathroom were not serviced. However, there was a...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Ferncliff perched on one of the highest points of Nuwara Eliya commands a view like no other of 'Little England'. This includes being set against the magnificent backdrop of Mount Pedro (Pidurutalagala), which at 2524 m (8,281 ft) is Sri Lanka's highest point. Just ten minutes walk from the Grand Hotel and the Golf Club, Ferncliff is uniquely placed to be the centre of your Nuwara Eliya universe which includes Horton Plains National Park, Tea Plantations and other locations of interest in the hill country. Deeds for the Ferncliff lands predate the founding of the first Nuwara Eliya settlement by Great White Hunter and Explorer, Sir Samuel Baker in 1846. The bungalow, now a heritage site, had its beginnings in the 1850s and the ghosts of Samuel Baker and his ilk still walk our expansive lawns hunting elephants, deer and wild boar to near extinction in the lush Nuwara Eliya valley. Today, with restorations that have retained its rustic charm, Ferncliff offers comforts that few bungalows in town can aspire to, and our team led by our chef with over 30 years of experience in the hotel trade, will ensure that your time with us will be comfortable and relaxed. Rest assured that although Ferncliff is centrally located, once inside her gates the hustle and bustle of the town is forgotten. Enjoy a game of croquet, a round of boules, or just wander around our extensive grounds which include a young rose garden and very soon, orange and pear orchards. Look no further for what promises to be a truly authentic Nuwara Eliya experience. Kindly note that, accommodation for drivers and guides are not available in the premises. ... more   less
