We stayed at Ferncliff during our honeymoon and had a wonderful time. The estate is a charming, four-room colonial bungalow with a lovely garden. Upon arrival we were treated to hot tea and cakes, which were most welcome after a long evening of travel. The staff was courteous and the manager, Mr. Marlon, was helpful with suggesting and organizing activities...

Dear Brendan, Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. Marlon and the team will be greatly encouraged by your kind words, and are we. The team works hard to maintain the standards that we've set together, and they're not always appreciated in the manner they should be. Do come back and stay with us again soon....

I have all good things to say about this Heritage Property maintained from 1831(except for one that I will mention in the end). This place was little difficult to find for us may be because our driver was not familiar with the town and this property is not around the famous lake in Nuwara eliya. We arrived at around 3...

We stayed for one night and were warmly greeted by staff. Dinner was delicious, and plenty of it. The bedrooms were clean and tidy with the added bonus of a hot water bottle upon retiring. Slept well and were served a traditional English breakfast. This home is traditional and the staff go out of their way to make your stay...

Absolutely amazing place. The house is from 1831 and the 4 rooms are decorated according to that. With very modern bathrooms. The staff is amazing and so helpful. We felt so much at home. We only spent two nights but enjoyed every minut. Forget about High Tea at Grand Hotel - and order the High Tea here at Ferncliff -...

Dear Gary, Thank you for taking the time to write us such a lovely review. A well restored traditional colonial house with a brilliant chef and very friendly staff when we were there. Located just walking distance from the small interesting friendly town. Only 30 minutes drive from Horton Plains nature trail.

It's an amazingly well mantained colonial bungalow, with all the original trappings except for the bathrooms which are state of the art and that makes living in the past very pleasant. The location is great too...very close to the city centre but immune from the bustle of the city. It's an oasis of British Raj style living, with tea served...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Ferncliff perched on one of the highest points of Nuwara Eliya commands a view like no other of 'Little England'. This includes being set against the magnificent backdrop of Mount Pedro (Pidurutalagala), which at 2524 m (8,281 ft) is Sri Lanka's highest point. Just ten minutes walk from the Grand Hotel and the Golf Club, Ferncliff is uniquely placed to be the centre of your Nuwara Eliya universe which includes Horton Plains National Park, Tea Plantations and other locations of interest in the hill country. Deeds for the Ferncliff lands predate the founding of the first Nuwara Eliya settlement by Great White Hunter and Explorer, Sir Samuel Baker in 1846. The bungalow, now a heritage site, had its beginnings in the 1850s and the ghosts of Samuel Baker and his ilk still walk our expansive lawns hunting elephants, deer and wild boar to near extinction in the lush Nuwara Eliya valley. Today, with restorations that have retained its rustic charm, Ferncliff offers comforts that few bungalows in town can aspire to, and our team led by our chef with over 30 years of experience in the hotel trade, will ensure that your time with us will be comfortable and relaxed. Rest assured that although Ferncliff is centrally located, once inside her gates the hustle and bustle of the town is forgotten. Enjoy a game of croquet, a round of boules, or just wander around our extensive grounds which include a young rose garden and very soon, orange and pear orchards. Look no further for what promises to be a truly authentic Nuwara Eliya experience. Kindly note that, accommodation for drivers and guides are not available in the premises. ... more   less
