Hacienda Del Sol is a boutique eco-luxury wellness resort and spa specializing in detoxes, cleansing, yoga and mindful fitness programs.
There js something so special and magical about this place. My brother and I went to HDS after graduating from our medical training. We both got there burned out and left feeling rejuvenated. The place is beautiful. The surrounding jungle is lovely with the views and sounds providing a wonderful escape. I was worried about the food prior to getting there given the focus on being healthy. I was soooo pleasantly surprised - so many delicious options that I would personally choose at a restaurant. The shrimp tacos, guacamole, fresh caught fish, seared fresh tuna, eggs benedict, shakshuka, and more were on point! Most if not all of the ingredients they use are made at their farm next door. The kitchen staff (Delania, Javier, Jasmine, Ray, Adriana) are lovely and clearly make the food with love and pride. They are extremely warm and accommodating. All of the staff I met during my week were all kind and welcoming, especially Dani and Mika. The yoga classes were fantastic. The instructors including Pipe and Vera were great, they helped guide my brother with one on one classes through yoga, stretching, and stress management. The massages were some of the best I have ever gotten. I can go on and on about how much I loved HDS but I think you get the point.

This was our first visit to Costa Rica and Hacienda del Sol and did not know what to expect. It was also our first yoga retreat. The visit exceeded our expectations. The remote location in the jungle, the yoga sessions and the food were the highlights. After seven days, we felt renewed and we are planning to go back next year.
We had excellent and instant communication with the front desk through WhatsApp and email for all transportation arrangements and assistance. The staff at the Hacienda was very friendly and helpful and since the place is small you get personal attention.
We were on the yoga retreat and not on a special diet or juicing program and had access to all the food, including the daily keto. The food, the juice and the smoothies were fresh, delicious and nourishing. The kitchen staff was excellent.
We attended all yoga sessions and one meditation session during our stay which was our primary purpose of this visit. The sessions in the open air pavilion in the jungle were invigorating and inspirational; our instructors Vera and Julia creatively coordinated our asanas for all level students to participate and receive the benefits of breathing and movement. Apart from yoga, we chilled often at the saltwater pool which was extremely clean and very good temperature.
There are two things to know before you go. Be aware that the last 25 kilometers to the Hacienda are non paved roads. You should also decide if you want to be there in the rainy or dry season. We were in the rainy season and everything was lush and beautiful but it rained a lot.

It was my first wellness retreat. I had booked it for the Christmas into New Year’s Day period in 2021 but caught Omicron and they held it for the following year. Communication was excellent, transportation from/to the airport was seamless. The 9 night stay was restorative, life affirming, filled with invigorating yoga classes, jungle baths on weekends which are gentle nature walks with Vera, a yoga instructor, who is truly beautiful inside and out. The reception Samantha, Maria Jose and J.J. are truly exceptional. I say this as a former boutique and luxury hotel personnel that they are intuitive and discreet while managing a sense of warmth that creates the atmosphere.
The ladies in the open kitchen are lovely and helpful to make sure that you are satisfied and happy. To Jasmin, Andrea, Alex and Natalia Muchisimas Gracias 🙏🏽
The housekeepers were very discreet so I didn’t really meet them but they kept my room and the common areas beautiful at all times.
Each evening there was a beach shuttle to take you to the sunset and I believe the driver’s name was Mario and he was very helpful. Excellent for solo travel; most of us were solo travelers.
My only treatment was the craniosacral therapy and it was like a warm hug that you give yourself to heal whatever is ailing your mind, body and spirit. Your guide is Menla, a centered and serene guide to your healing. 🙏🏽
I also cannot forget to mention the tiny furry staff Alan and Luna who worked as cuddle therapists.
I definitely will return to experience other treatments and meet my people again.

After reading hundreds of reviews I decided to give myself an early birthday present and travel to Hacienda del Sol for their 14 night rebalance retreat. The resort is vibrant and exudes a peaceful healing energy. From the moment you arrive you can feel that everyone is holding space for you to reset and nourish yourself. Candela and Kiri from the office staff have excellent customer service skills. The massage therapists have magical hands. Shar, I’m looking at you. The gardeners keep the grounds lush and gorgeous.The Pura room was peaceful and housekeeping did a lovely job keeping it clean and stocked with fresh linens and towels. The yoga instructors Julia and Vera are knowledgeable and beautiful human beings. The heart and soul of HDS are definitely the kitchen staff. Adriana, Jasmine, Javier, Jose, Sebastian, Victor. They create deliciously nourishing meals and present them like pieces of art. After my 14 nights I left feeling rested, nourished and refreshed. I got teary eyed when it was time to leave which is a testament to the powerful healing properties that HDS is committed to. Looking forward to visiting again soon. Pura Vida amigos! Hacienda Del Sol is the perfect wellness center. The food , the staff and the amenities were all absolutely amazing. There was a small leak in the cold tub when we were on property and they fixed it right away.
We highly recommend this hidden oasis for anyone who is looking for something conscious, intentional and full of love .

I was dealing with extreme exhaustion and feared I wouldn’t be able to find a way to re-energize. Hacienda Del Sol was the perfect, Utopian experience and gave me just what I needed. The food was garden fresh, delicious and nourishing. The yoga, breathwork and meditations along with the massages and bodywork were so restorative and then the walks in nature and the perfect little paradise they created all combined all brought me exactly where I needed to be. My circadian rhythm reset and suddenly I felt an energy I hadn’t felt in too long to remember. All this in one short week. I highly recommend this experience and I fully intend on returning in the future.

Hacienda del sol is magical! From the stunning, sophisticated and cozy decor, the open air kitchen and dining area, the most inviting pool and water therapy to the relaxing accommodations with a jungle view. The food is divine and kitchen staff are warm and accommodating. We followed a perfectly laid back schedule of yoga, sunsets and optional activities combined with the most phenomenal treatment by Julia. A special self discovery journey led by the talented Mika inspired me to continue my own journey of introspection to adventure, joy and peace. Simply stated, I had an amazing month-long stay. I was looking to lighten up both figuratively and literally and could not be happier with the results. I started with a 7-day juice cleanse which was just what I needed to jump start my fitness regimen after this long year (I had never done one before and was surprised that I wasn't hungry all the time and still able to do the twice daily yoga classes). I then moved onto their primal fitness program which uses your body's own weight for both strength training and cardiovascular conditioning. This was particularly exciting as I have been home for two weeks and am using the skills from the program in my apartment for online workouts. Complimenting this was the incredible food. While I'm definitely more of a carnivore, I was really impressed with how fresh and flavorful the vegan options were and frequently chose them over the keto options (which were also delicious, but I want to incorporate more plant-based eating going forward). Vibrant and lush, the retreat is set in the jungle which is immensely tranquil. The staff were incredibly helpful and the late afternoon sunset beach trips were beautiful way to cap the day. If you are looking for a truly relaxing and healthy vacation, come here.

My experience at HDS was nothing short of a body and mind transformation.
I decided on spending 28 days at the retreat minding a Keto and Primal Fitness program throughout. Immediately I was met with 1:1 treatment and attention I have never experienced at any wellness center. From meeting Luna (the resident puppy) who showered me with love and affection whenever I needed it, to Ramiro taking careful consideration of all the environmental and biological obstacles I needed to overcome, to Julia (Pure Joy she is) making each movement class fun and inhibition free, to Jasmine in the kitchen tailoring to my eating needs, to Shar's healing touch in my rebalancing sessions and Maria Jose, JJ, Vera and Stephanie always checking in to make certain I was comfortable and safe.
The trick to HDS being a success is simple. They give you all of the tools, and it is up to you to use them and commit to making a change. It is not one thing or one quick fix, but a holistic approach to the unique aspects of each individual they cater toward. From diet, to movement, to fascia work, saunas and cold plunges, to making incredible connections to other guests and surrendering to one tiny moment in your life to attempt real change, it can happen if you decide you want it badly enough.
Yes, there are some pesky bugs, and you may not love every meal, or your room might have a few new renovation glitches, but that is not the point. You are in a jungle, away from much more significant stressors in your life, so do your best to put perspective at the forefront of your trip and dive into why you are there. I promise if you give yourself as much love and patience as HSD gives you, then you will walk away feeling renewed and excited about what is possible and what you achieved.
The results feel like magic but are in fact your personal dedication coupled with a supportive setting of caring experts in nature as offered by HDS.

Traveling solo is fine. You will soon meet others traveling alone and also there is a communal feel to the place. You get to know most guests pretty quickly and end up dining together and chatting during meal times.
Most people stuck to their respective diets so not sure how flexible you want to be as you might not get the most out of it if you break the diet. The most flexible option is the raw food/yoga retreat: you can get just juice if that's what you want and you can eat if you want, sometimes you can have cooked fresh fish too.
a day starts early, get your breakfast order in first thing, do yoga, have breakfast, put in your lunch order, do whatever you want during the day, have lunch and put in your dinner order at the same time. Afternoon yoga then sunset shuttle every night, sometimes a boat excursion. It's really a gem of a place and I enjoyed every minute of it.
If you're going in Summertime, it's very hot. Bring yoga clothes, bathing suits, sneakers for hikes, cover up for the boat ride, flip flops, shorts and tops. Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated.
The boat ride on Friday evening is free. There are other things you can do in town (zip line, horseback ride, etc) that cost and you also will need to pay the taxi for your trip into and back from town. I believe the taxi is around $40 USD round trip.

I went by myself and it seemed like most people there did as well. It's a laid back, welcoming atmosphere so you will definitely make friends, yet also have time for yourself to just reflect and relax.
There are more places to choose from in the San Juanillo area.
