I have stayed at Villa Convento about 4 times over the past 15 years. It used to be a clean quaint simple place that was a good value. Now it has fallen into serious disrepair and is not clean. After arrival, we walked up dirty carpeted stair that had an area of crushed crackers on a few steps. 5 days...

My wife and I stayed there last September and we are headed back this year. We even booked the same room. There is a mystique you feel when you walk in the door. The rooms are simple and elegant. I like the old feel of the place and the price is amazing. Just a hop, skip, and a jump away...

My now husband and I stayed here 4 nights last week while in the quarter to get married. We enjoyed the convenience to the quarter and Frenchmen's street and the lovely view over the roof tops. The receptionists (all of them) could not have been more helpful or kind. This is not a place that you would stay if you...

Hotel is not like your usual modern Best Western or Marriott. Everything is a bit old and tired but it is all clean. It is also in a very convenient and quiet location. Another reason to stay here is one receptionist, Barbara. She will try her best to make your stay comfortable. My husband and I found the mattress to...

We stayed at the Villa Convento for what turned out to be ten wonderful days in February, 2014. The hotel is small and charming with lots of character and sense of place and history--which is exactly what we were looking for in our New Orleans stay. Yes, the elevator is old and slow. Yes, the place is careworn and has...

harming boutique hotel with a lot of history (it used to be a brothel...ask Barbara!), that feels very authentic and cozy. Online booking was easy; and per a note that I included in my booking, they upgraded us room to a Courtyard room since we were celebrating a birthday. The price was reasonably ($115/night excluding taxes), especially for the excellent...

It's not very fancy, It is very old, and has tons of character. An inexpensive place to sleep, in just the right spot. Close enough to the action, but far enough to be able to get away from it. I liked the French Market being so close. The staff and other guests were all so friendly, it was a very...

We had a wonderful stay at the Hotel Villa Convento. It was close to everything we wanted to do in the French Quarter. Recommendations made by staff were much appreciated too! Thank you to Barbara for the extra time she took to assure our family had a memorable visit ~ Shandy & family from Kansas 😊

My girlfriend and I stayed here for few days around New Years. Place was great: reasonably priced, great location in a quiet stretch of the French Quarter (being across the street from a great cafe helps), aesthetically interesting (unusual outdoor back staircase in back with small well arranged rooms created a great atmosphere) , and most of all had a...

My fiance and I just returned from a 3-night stay at this hotel. While the decor is dated and the hallways could use a fresh coat of paint, the service was wonderful and the price cannot be beat. The hotel is in the French Quarter but enough of a distance from the cacophony of Bourbon Street so no sleep was...

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
