I am not a generic hotel kind of person even when my company is paying for it and even if it is one of those fancy ones on Canal Street. I like character, charm and history in a hotel as well as a neighborhood and I got it all at Rathbone Mansion. Even though it was just me, I found...

This was our first time staying at a B&B. It was a great experience. The employees were very friendly. The location is convenient walking distance to both the French Quarter and Frenchman Street in the Marigny. We had the Mardis Gras suite. It was huge. Could easily sleep 8. Had two big beds in one room and a king in...

We were excited about the history of the property. Photos are dated. Our first room was decent but the cable didn't work. Relocated to another room but the ac hadn't been turned on so the room was hot and took time to cool down. Definitely a bed and breakfast. Basic no frills. Office staff friendly, maintenence staff not so good....

We where three people staying for two nights. The staff were very friendly, but I've got to say the room didn't live up at all to the $230/night that we payed. Bathroom was dirty and the AC sounded like a truck. Breakfast was just barely decent. Would not recommend.

When I arrived I was quite surprised that the looks of the place did not resemble the photos on the website. Turns out there are multiple mansions and the photos, per Pat, the owner, are 7 years old so keep in mind the place has aged since then and the photos do not accurately represent the current state. On the...

I stayed at Rathbone Mansions visiting New Orleans. Excellent location, walking distance to Bourbon St. I walked alone at all hours if the night and morning & felt very safe, being a female. Rooms was nice, bed was super comfy, flat-screen had great picture, AC was refreshing on hot nights. The breakfast had lots to choose from! Inground pool &...

Just returned from our first visit to Rathbone Mansions (May 2016). We are regular visitors to Nola, and stayed in most every type of accommodations offered- chain hotels, local rentals, AirBnB, guesthouse, and now a real Bed and Breakfast! Located on the beautiful Esplanade, you are so close to all the action - loved our walks on the tree lined...

So, we knew what we were getting! The reviews are accurate. It's an old mansion, we stayed in the main house with the kitchen and eating area. Our room was #3 or 4 - I can't remember, but it was very basic and had an outdoor entrance, close to the pool We enjoyed it very much, but I would probably...

We arrived a couple days before the job started. Staff super friendly and accommodating. Great pool/hot tub in back. Ms Pat's Shrimp and grits were a joy. Great secured parking in back. Buffas Bar right up Esplanade was a gem with awesome live music. Quiet, yet comfortable in an older era vibe.

This place is cool. Pat is amazing. Breakfast really is delicious, you should go! The houses are giant, old and awesome. They're perfectly situated just a few blocks from the French Quarter and a straight shot to the fairgrounds for Jazz Fest. Cons: while I guess I can understand why you wouldn't invest a lot of money into updating a...

Staying in Treme

Neighbourhood Profile
That sound? That flavor? That certain je ne sais quoi that lets you known you’re in “Nawlins” and nowhere else? It’s all good and in broad abundance on the streets of Tremé, where so much of what’s considered to be the very best of New Orleans culture and tradition is, put simply, just how people go about their daily lives in this historic part of town. As one of America’s oldest African-American neighborhoods and among the nation’s first established residential areas for free people of color, Tremé’s significant heritage and contribution cannot be understated. This is especially the case when considering some of Tremé’s most famous residents, most notably jazz great Louis Armstrong. For full flavored food, funky and jazzed up music, and vibrant street life presented with homegrown pride, you can’t beat a visit to Tremé.
