From memory this was our fifth stay at The House in a dozen or so years visiting from Australia for Jazz Fest, so that must tell you something. We've been staying with Kevin and Wendy since Boudin was a pup and well before, and it's always great fun and an essential component of our JazzFest visits. Staying over the river...

INNKEEPER’S FAVOURITE REVIEW
Reviewed 21 March 2017

I received very late notice that I would have to travel to the New Orleans area for business immediately before Mardi Gras weekend, 2017. Good luck finding a decent, affordable option, right? Fortunately, a friend who used to live on Algiers Point told me to check out the House of the Rising Sun B & B. This was a stroke...

Many thanks for your wonderful review and we look forward to your future trips to stay with us! Always nice to have guests that have a lot of experience in New Orleans that prefer our side of the river. We don't call it the "Best Bank" for nothing!

We visited New Orleans at the end of April and stayed at the House of the Rising Sun Bed and Breakfast. The B&B is just a short ride from the airport (about 30 minutes) and is located directly across the river from the French Quarter. We rented a car upon arrival and were able to park right in front of...

We came to NOLA to 1) get married, and 2) experience Jazz Fest. We spent our very first night in a hotel in the French Quarter and then made our way to the House of the Rising Sun for the remainder of our stay (11 nights total). We couldn't have been happier with our decision: Algiers is lovely, quiet, and...

This is one of the special places you happen upon when travelling. A charming historical cottage in the beautiful Algiers Point neighborhood. Nicely decorated bedrooms with ensuite. Private and peaceful. Very comfortable king size bed. Pretty garden and lots of memorabilia in Kevin's & Wendy's home that they share with their guests. We didn't meet Wendy, but Kevin was a...

I came to NOLA to work on a project. It was a wonderful 3-day trip even though difficult and somewhat destabilized (by BOTH the Delta and United debacles). Kevin and Wendy provided an oasis from the craziness... a wonderful bed, a lovely and relaxing back porch, super breakfasts, and several very nice chats. I'm not a B&B veteran but this...

My partner and I came on a brief visit to visit my sister across the river. We'd both been to New Orleans but not to Algiers, so it was very cool to see a new (old!) part of town. Taking the short ferry ride to and from Canal Street became a lovely part of the experience for us, and even...

Many thanks for your wonderful review. We will take your advice and put Abita Rootbeer on our grocery list :-) Abita Amber beer (the "hard stuff" as you call it) will still be on the menu. We look forward to your next visit.

I'm not a veteran B&Ber, but this was recommended by a colleague of mine for a short two-night stay that would be close to Gretna, where we were involved in a theater production. My first hint that THOTRS would be so much more was the pre-stay emailing back and forth with Kevin, the owner. He was friendly, casual and accommodating,...

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house is uniquely decorated & comfortable. We were made to feel welcome immediately. Staying in Algiers

Neighbourhood Profile
Algiers
Sitting pretty across the Mississippi River from the rambunctious French Quarter, the Crescent City’s second oldest neighborhood is as historic and as scenic as any – just a lot less showy about it. With its numerous 19th and early 20th century homes and plentiful parks and riverside green space for cycling and walking, subdued and low key Algiers yields the best views of New Orleans and offers a quiet haven from the hustle and bustle in other parts of town. Most of the area’s activity, for visitors anyway, takes place at Algiers Point where the famous Canal Street / Algiers Ferry has been the main attraction since 1827 and is still giving folks one of the best rides in town at very affordable rates. Restaurants, bars and music venues here all but guarantee the utmost of authentic experiences sans any hype or high prices.
