Was impressed with hotel on arrival. Very clean and pleasant lobby. No problem checking in, and we were upgraded to a King room. There is a courtyard off the lobby with tables and chairs. The King room was large and comfortable. Loved the wood floors! The bathroom is tiny, but adequate. The bed was comfortable but I found the pillows... More

The st James hotel was an awesome new orleans get away. It was close to all the action. Machiel checked us in with ease and convenience. She was a pleasure to interact with. The rooms were clean, warm and inviting. Next time I am in town I will not hesitate to stay here

We stayed here before going on our cruise. It was very nice however there was one issue. When I booked over the phone I said I was traveling with 6 people and they told they had a suite that would accommodate. When I got my confirmation I was booked in a room with two double beds called a suite but... More

Booked last minute and were lucky enough to get a room over the weekend (stayed 3 nights). Valeted the car which was a bit pricey at 29 plus tax (not many other convenient options so was glad I used the service). Was greeted at the front counter by Machiel who was very helpful. Went straight to our room where the... More

My daughter and I stayed overnight at this hotel when Greyhound was late getting us to our Amtrak train, but that's a different review. I was very pleasantly surprised. The hotel is in the downtown area, so its a quick walk to restaurants and sightseeing. The hotel room was very beautiful and clean. My only complaint is that the water... More

I have to confess I was not quite as charmed with this hotel as other reviewers. It is central, an easy walk to the French Quarter and the St Charles, Canal and Riverfront streetcar lines. The staff is friendly. Someone failed to tell us that the hotel is under renovation making the lobby cramped and dusty. We asked for a... More

Hotel is a great historic find. Yes historic, so prepare yourself for smaller rooms, smaller showers and everything that comes with a historic building. The staff was AMAZING! Front desk was super friendly, gave us the history of the place and we even had a staff member show us around. Hotel is a little bit of a walk from the... More

What a nice old hotel! Room was very nice and clean. Love the high ceiling and the tall windows. Nice to sit in the courtyard, very quiet and secluded. Except for the dump truck that came at 5:30AM and the water pressure was the only downside. Staff was excellent and very friendly. Complimentary breakfast of croissant, orange juice and coffee... Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
