I would love to give this a better review because the staff is so kind and helpful. But it goes beyond quirky and approaches the non-functional. No hot water in shower, electrical wiring that looks dangerous, crazy restrictions on where you can walk. Food mediocre. The location and view are great. It is presently for sale. Maybe a new owner...

We stayed for two nights at La Casa de Don David as we explored some of the local Mayan ruins (Tikal and Yaxhá). It was the perfect base of operations, on the border of Lake Petén Itzá in a peaceful and scenic location. The room was spacious and clean (we went for the premium option) - the shower wasn't particularly...

What an amazing place! $37/night included one meal each day--and they didn't care if you chose breakfast, lunch, or dinner. All meals excellently prepared. I stayed here because its location in El Remate put me only about 40 minutes from both Tikal and Yaxha. My guide, Marlon Diaz (owner of "Em Guatemala Travel"), met me at the border as I...

The rooms were simple but had nice touches like weavings and a hammock and candle on the balcony. Showers good. The garden is full of birds which are fed. Hummingbirds drank nectar from a feeder by our breakfast table - the restaurant has a great view. The included meal was great, I had lake fish. The zip wire that takes...

My wife and I used this hotel as a base to visit Tikal and Yaxha. It served that purpose and adequately met our needs. Strengths - very friendly and helpful owner and staff; fascinating unique construction and equipment in the hotel. Ask to see the Toucan Express operate! The location is well situated to visit Tikal and Yaxha. Challenges -...

The place has a very friendly staff. It offers one free meal a day, and you can choose if that would be breakfast, dinner or a packed lunch. It is very convenient, because many tours around the area are with sunrise which will make you miss breakfast, or you may need to leave early and miss dinner. The location of...

I stayed here in November with some friends. It was our first time in Guatemala and had come to the area to visit the Tikal and Yaxha sites. The staff were so friendly and helpful - they helped us find a guide and gave us advice on the area. The hotel gardens were full of exotic birds and the plants...

A few times over the years I've stayed a night coming or going in Flores and once before in El Remate, but generally recommended that folks stay in the park at Tikal to make the most of their visit. I realize that some folks have more than 1 night in the area and want to stay in more than one...

We stayed here 1 night before visiting Tikal. Small Town Charm. We took a horseback tour arranged by hotel the evening we arrived, which was wonderful and cheap. This place is just by the lake, we even met the owner which turned out to be a wonderful older gentleman. Room was simple, but we really didnt visit El Remate/Tikal to...

We stayed several nights with our 6 & 8 year old kids on the road to and from Tikal. This was the best hotel we stayed in on our 3 week trip through Guatemala. The rooms are clean, spacious and have AC. My kids loved the huge garden were they could run around and disturb anyone. The owner Don David...
