We enjoyed our stay. Great location. The owner Ann was so helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Such a beautiful and hard working family who does such a great job running this place! A cabin with a kitchen, hot showers, plenty of linens. We loved our little space for 3 days. Close to many fun activities. We would definitely stay... More

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. The unit you stayed in is our Hunting Lodge. The floor plan for this cabin is posted on our website at shady-rest-motel.com. Superb location : 2 blocks from main street but against woods and very quiet. Park with kids playground across street. Free pool passes to city pool 3 blocks away. Clean cabin. Exceptional service by extraordinarily lovely couple who could not be more helpful or welcoming

This was a great home base for our trip to Custer State Park and surrounding National Park and Monuments. We had an absolutely wonderful time. We booked early and got one of the newer cabins. We stayed in #11--a super cute, efficiency-type cabin within walking distance of main street. Anne and John are very welcoming and gave us great ideas... More

Having read all the glowing reviews, checking into our cabin was an immediate and overwhelming disappointment. Our first impressions--cramped, musty, dismal and dim! I'm sure Amy and John are fine people, but the only positives we can say are that the cabin was clean and we never ran out of hot water! These cabins are old and have been "remodeled"... More

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. We are sorry you were disappointed. The unit you stayed in is our Cabin 6 which is one of our historic cabins. The charm of this cottage is, in part, in the very things that set it apart from a completely modern motel including its original windows and door, covered... More

We traveled cross country and stayed at 15 different places of all types. This was one of our favorites. The ambience of the cabin group is cozy and quaint and memorable. Look at the chart on the website to pick a spot. We were in the row in the back, a little up the hill, so it felt a little... More

We spent a week in cabin 7 and had a wonderful time. It's small but big enough for us. The kitchen was very nice to have altho we enjoyed eating out a bit more than we should have. 7 is the only cabin with a bathtub and I really appreciated that. It's a good deep tub and the showerhead is... More

While in the Black Hills, we traveled to Custer, SD where we visited the Shady Rest Motel. What an outstanding place to stay!! The cabins are private, clean, cozy, rustic and very comfortable. You can cook your own meals with the complete kitchens and provided dishware. The views are spectacular and hiking around the place is a blast. The park... More

We just returned from a trip to the Black Hills. If we're ever in the area we will definitely be back. We stayed in cozy cabin number 6 which was enough room for our family of 4. The kitchen came in handy. We didn't grill this trip but grills are available to use. The hot tub is a nice touch... More

Our family of four spent three nights here last week. The cabin was clean, beds were comfortable, and while the complex is nestled into a quiet wooded hillside, it was close enough that we could walk downtown for dinner in the evening. Ann is so friendly and welcoming, and she knows so much about the area - she gave us... More
