I do NOT understand the negative reviews unless people really don't explore what they are signing up for. For us, this was a perfect spot to stay for the first week out of our two on Big Island. Small and personable. I am a light sleeper and was a bit worried about road noise

Managers Ed and Karen were excellent. Our 7th visit over 25 years and we enjoyed it as much as our first time. Everyone very friendly, as usual. Super nice weather and although Kona is busier these days, still a wonderful holiday destination.

This place is a real dump. And it was quite expensive by any measure. I made the reservation for three nights but had to leave and find another place last minute. The ceiling had holes around the fan. The AC DOESN'T WORK! No TV, no bathroom products, no drinkable water. Save

We wish we had known your concerns so that we could have addressed them in person. We’re confused as to why you state that the AC does not work since we do not have it — we have the cool ocean breeze instead. We are in the process of replacing all of the ceiling fans, so while the one in your room works just fine, it will look nicer shortly. Our rooms do not have TVs since they'd be blaring over the sound of the waves. For amenities, we provide hand soap, bath soap, dish soap, and cups for the drinkable water from the kitchen and bathroom sinks. There is also a vending machine near the office with bottled water. It is hard for us to understand why you wrote such a negative review since you did not express any issues while you were here and gave a different reason for checking out early ... but it is true that Kona Tiki isn't for everyone, and we hope you found a place more suitable for you. Aloha

This sweet vintage hotel has many things going for it: the managers are amazingly kind and accommodating; the location is accessible; the beds are comfortable; and, it is nice to have a kitchenette to prepare some food. Be aware that the rooms in the 101-201-301 stack are right

This place is a little gem. It’s nothing fancy but it is in a sensational spot. We had the smallest room and it was perfect. We had our own private balcony and amazing water views, the rooms a literally 10 meters from the water. The staff were awesome and very helpful. The

Thanks so much for the kind review! We enjoyed having you here, even if it was for too short of time :) So glad you enjoyed all the little gems of the Kona Tiki including the convenient location, petite room, oceanfront lanai, amazing views, and our "friendly" eels. We hope to see you again! Aloha & cheers from KTH.

The lanai was lovely.
Rather basic, vintage style. I am not a fan of polyester bed spreads, but it was colorful.

can I pay with cash
Aloha! To make a reservation, we collect a deposit -- for example, if a reservation is over 5 nights long, we collect the first 5 nights as deposit. Or for stays 5 nights or less, it would be the full amount, and your credit card is charged when you make the reservation. If you want to pay in cash when you get here, we are happy to reverse that charge and change the transaction to cash. If you happen to be a "walk-in" when we have availability, we'll accept cash as payment without charging your card, but we do need to put a credit card on file for incidentals. Please call or email us if you have any additional questions or if you would like to make a reservation. Mahalo!

Yes lot's of beach gear to borrow. WIFi fair. Doesn't work well if your room if far from the office.

There were toys and gear people had left. I don't recall any boogie boards though. There is a Walmart a short trip away. We did not use the wifi but heard it was best near the office.

is this on a sandy, swimmable beach?
The hotel is located 20 feet from ocean which is separated from the property by a Lava Rock Seawall. The view is beautiful. Our swimming pool and lounge area are right by the water (rock wall separates) However, there is no beach. There is an entrance to the ocean at the end of the property, which is very swimmable when the surf isn't up, but it is over rounded, rocky Pebbles. Fine for adventures types. But must be sure footed.Locals use it all the time. There is a small beach 1.5 miles on Alii Drivel ( White Sands or Disappearing Sands). The true beaches are a 25 minute (Kua Bay) and 40 minute drive respective ( Hapuna Beach). Beautiful White Sandy Beaches. There are black sand beaches 45 minutes to 1hour south on the west coast and south point areas. The Big Island is the "newest" in the island chain and while the beaches are beautiful, we have fewer than the other islands. We do have the most beautiful diving and snorkeling in Hawaii.

"Don't bother. Look for another hotel."
"Rooms away from road are quieter. First floor rooms have nice lawn access, but also feel less private and secure."
"I'd say go for the more central rooms, ending in 2,3 or 4."
"All the rooms come with a spectacular view of the ocean"
"The lower level rooms are quieter because of the surf."
