It's difficult to write a review that has a few negative comments when you don't want to hurt the hosts feelings. The hosts were quite welcoming, but like another poster mentioned, they didn't ask how our stay was going or if there were any issues. The breakfasts each morning were made with care and were very satisfying and beautiful to...

This was our second time at Hale Maluhia and we enjoyed it very much. We stayed in the Makua room. The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom could use a bit of updating but the room was clean and comfortable. The hosts and staff were wonderful and the breakfast consisted of fresh local fruit, boiled eggs, cereal and bakery...

We stayed in the Banyan Cottage for 4 nights and did not see the other sleeping rooms. The Cottage was spacious and had more than adequate furnishings, appliances, and housewares. The breakfasts were enjoyable and ample. The location was reasonably convenient, as was the parking. However, nearly everything (except the linens) was dated or dirty, indicating that maintenance was a...

We stayed in the Banyan Cottage for 4 days. Cottage was a bit aged, but was clean or so we thought. The first night we heard the pitter patter of feet in the room and mentioned it during breakfast with our host Ken. He mentioned it could be rats, but didn't seem concerned. Later that day we had an unopened...

We were very surprised this place got a high rating on TripAdvisor although the more recent reviews are accurate. It definitely is in need of renovation and repair. Very uncomfortable beds and noisy! Hosts really don't seem concerned about poor reviews and don't seem to want to improve your stay by asking if there's anything they can do. Many other...

The complex does have nice landscaping but building & rooms need repairs, but this did not really affect our stay. While our room was what we expected (bed needs replacing which I believe is going to happen after we mentioned it) & quite well appointed, but we can't say we enjoyed out stay here. Mainly due to the manager Ken...

My husband and I spent 4 nights at Hale Maluhia on our recent trip to Hawaii. The Inn is well-located just out of Kailua up mountain, not beach location. The grounds have a lot of vegetation with many birds and wandering chickens. We were greeted by the friendly managers and shown around. We had a large room with a queen...

The facilities at Hale Maluhia are very nice with lots of vegetation and nicely landscaped. However that said, the owner/manager, Ken, (who has been there about 6 months he said) a very nice man, did not seem to have a handle on things. When we arrived there, he wasn't certain which room we were in (we had to tell him),...

If it were not for the lovely hotel managers, I would rank this hotel lower. We stayed in the Banyan Cottage. While the setting was lovely, the cottage was in bad need of repair, cleaning, and a bit of redecorating. A break in the glass windows had been repaired with paper towels. The toilet, which was in its own room,...

We stayed at the Hale Maluhia Country Inn for 6 nights in late December. It is a charming, converted country house, nestled in the hills above Kona. The Inn is about 30 minutes from Kona Airport and about 10 minutes from the main commercial area and the beach in Kona. The roads leading to the place are really good so...
