Just over an hour's drive from San Jose International Costa Rica airport (SJO), eco-minded travelers from all over the world have reveled in the beauty of Villa Blanca Cloud Forest Hotel, located within the Los Angeles Private Biological Nature Reserve & Research Station in the Canton of San Ramon. The hotel is ideally situated as a gateway to Arenal Volcano and the famous Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Here, you're immersed in one of the world's most precious and complex jungle ecosystems - the cloud forest. This boutique mountain hotel is nestled on 75-acres of gentle rolling hills, with well-appointed "casitas" and Honeymoon Suites, each with their own fireplace, and surrounded by acres of lush botanical gardens. Originally owned by former president Rodrigo Carazo Odio and First Lady, Estrella Zeledon de Carazo, Villa Blanca has become a renown and cherished Costa Rica destination. The architecture reflects the original farm village concept, with a welcoming Hacienda, offering guests exceptional Costa Rican hospitality, premier dining, a private theater, conference facilities, and pampering spa menu. Also quite unique is a replica of a 14th century Roman wedding chapel, La Mariana, with its hand painted ceramic ceiling. Choose from a variety of nature-based activities, including horseback, zip-lines, and user-friendly guided trials, plus excursions to Arenal and Poas volcanoes, hot springs, and rural-cultural tours. This is the Costa Rica where those who "travel well and travel right" want to go. Please feel free to visit our sister-site, one of the most prestigious Manuel Antonio hotels, Si Como No.

I saw some beautiful wildlife in the rainforest which the hotel is surrounded by. The food, the services and the accommodation were nice. We individually planted a tree in a field. My family and friends also enjoyed staying.

Thoroughly enjoyed out stay at Villa Blanca Hotel. The cloud forest was amazing. We enjoyed spending time walking the trails (wouldn't have complained about a signpost or two though, we did get lost!) and spending time in the frog house (a MUST go to between 6om and 7pm, it was amazing. We also did a morning and night time guided walk which was fanastic. The food was lovely and the rooms were nice. The Hummingbird garden was incredible, seeing them so close for so long was an unforgettable experience!

A unique location not to be forgotten! Fabulous staff and the guides that took us on the day and night walks were so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The opportunity to go to the frog and hummingbird gardens whenever you want to is brilliant. Planting a young tree in the rain forest was a real treat. Quirky cinema experience was great with a film on Costa Rica - it would have been nice if other films were shown, especially our 'free' afternoon as it rained continually. In it's glory days this would have been exceptional, however, it does need to be refurbished, the furniture in the rooms is old and outdated and the gaps around the windows and doors enabled some of the smaller wildlife in at night! There was the opportunity for an open fire, but the wood kindling and matches were damp; not sure how long they had been there/when the fire had last been lit. Its was lovely to be able to sit on the covered verandas and watch the wildlife. Like all the staff, the waiters are very friendly and efficient; the menu is limited and food quality was adequate, but not amazing. The cocktails in the bar were very good, however! All-in-all an amazing experience, fantastic staff, just a little investment to bring it up to date would make it an even better experience.

Set in beautiful grounds this hotel is very remote, reached by a 9km track full of pot holes - this adds to the charm and remoteness in my opinion. We were given a welcome drink, hot towel and talk about the hotel, grounds and activities on offer. They are very much focused on the environment which is great. Our room was nice and very clean but felt rather dated. As other people have said it was a bit damp but you are in the clouds so this is to be expected. The cloud actually cleared one day we were there giving wonderful views. The food was good but it was a rather limited menu and is the only place to eat. The lounge area was nice to sit in after dinner with a roaring log fire. We really enjoyed the night tour and saw so much wildlife. Our tour leader was very passionate about wildlife and extremely knowledgeable. They also do native tree planting aiming to increase the forest. The grounds are good to explore, we particularly loved feeding the emus which seem to live with the cow. We unfortunately missed the cow milking. The hummingbird garden was good and I liked the fact that the hotel grows and produces the majority of its food and milk/ice cream onsite.

Thank you for your comment. It seems you enjoyed a unique experience at our hotel Despite the room feeling a bit old and damp, you understood how the location amidst the clouds contributed to that atmosphere. You enjoyed the food and the cozy ambiance with a fireplace. The night tour to witness wildlife was a highlight, and you noticed the hotel's commitment to nature and tree planting. Interactive activities like feeding the emus and exploring the grounds were also enjoyable. In summary, your stay showcased a blend of nature, wildlife, and inviting comforts. We're glad to hear this and look forward to welcoming you back to our hotel! Thanks, Crisbel guest experience.

This is an off-the grid and peaceful resort. It should considered a 5-star resort. The staff is helpful and friendly, the accommodated our every need and provided great experiences options even at a short-time request. You must take the nighttime guided walk, my teens loved it and learned to appreciate the nocturnal wild life. Gorgeous place for relaxing, meditation, replenishing.

In the countryside, reached by a miles-long road, as narrow as it was bumpy, a fascinating tour itself of modest houses and Costa Rica's official animal, the Dog. Mist all around. Cabin was attractive and cozy, especially amid the wind & rain of a storm. Housekeeper a keeper. Gorgeous view down the valley. Dozens of hummingbirds. Pleasant waiters--knew about wines, too. Night-walking tour-for-two with guide was magical.

The hotel is situated down an 8 km road, some of which is dirt track and very bumpy. It is remote, but that is the uniqueness of this hotel. The day we arrived it was sunny and there were glorious views of the Arenal Volcano in the distance. The following morning we were in cloud and could see nothing but cloud. The rooms are individual chalet rooms set around the site. The rooms are spacious, with a separate bathroom and shower area. Wifi covers the site and there is a fridge in the room, as well as an overhead fan. The restaurant is situated in the main building and there is a limited choice on the menu. From the hotel you can do day and night tours on the surrounding nature walks with the specialist guides. The highlight is the Humming Bird Garden.

The hotel is in a beautiful location with rooms in separate bungalows in the grounds. Each room feels very private. Although the menu was the same each day there was a good selection to choose from and the food was very good. The restaurant staff were very friendly. We had an early start two days and they provided a breakfast box ( a piece of fruit and a sandwich). We did the night walk, which was excellent and the nature walk, which was also good. We also went on the quetzal excursion, with an excellent guide. The rooms had heaters and dehumidifiers which helped keep things less damp and plenty of hot water!

What a lovely oasis of calm in the cloud forest! Fantastic unspoilt forest teeming with wild life including coatis, humming birds, owls, frogs to name a few. Beautiful manicured gardens, wedding chapel, and working dairy where you could try your hand at milking. If you want to get back to nature with few distractions, this is the place for you. Would go back for a few days if the opportunity arose,
