We visited La Ranga last March and vowed to return in the hope of seeing the Northern Lights. (We did not see them last time). Stayed for 3 nights and loved it just as much as before and the lights came out for us last night! Very comfortable relaxed hotel, great meals and thank you to the reception lady who...

I booked 4 nights (the Northern Lights package) at Hotel Ranga to see the Northern Lights and to relax. The hotel staff are awesome. They will call you during the night when the lights are visible. I was lucky enough to see the lights two nights. The hotel also has warm outer wear you can borrow so you can stay...

My family and I spent 3 wonderful nights at this gorgeous hotel. We stayed in the Africa Suite which was very spacious for 2 adults and 2 young children aged 8 and 4. The suite had a lovely jacuzzi and the beds were really comfy. The kids loved the chocolates left on the pillow each night after the turndown service....

A hotel in the middle of nowhere, a polar bear to meet you and a star gazing hut - what more could you want! This review may be a bit bias due to the fact we got upgraded to the African Master Suite, but even without that the positives were as follows: - excellent choices for breakfast inc make your...

While I didn't get lucky enough to see the northern lights on my three night stay, Hotel Ranga did not leave me disappointed. Between the star gazing station, the wonderful hot tubs, in room jacuzzi, the truly delicious restaurant and exceptional staff, not seeing the aurora might just be the perfect excuse to come back! This location is also a...

Myself and husband enjoyed a fabulous four nights in this lovely hotel. We had the Austraila suite which had amazing touches and was a great place to stay. Good was very good, if a little expensive in the restaurant during the evenings. We hired a car and saw everything under our own steam which I can really recommend. There is...

Fred and his Team at Ranga are an example to any hotel owner or group. They value their customers! Great setting, very romantic, relaxing atmosphere, excellent breakfast and delicious dinner. You can taste that the food is organic and not from a supermarket! We were also shown the New Year with a dazzling Northern lights display, even though is was...

Me and my friend stayed here for 2 nights on 10 December. The atmosphere of this hotel was so inviting. The staff were very friendly. The rooms were nice and clean. I did lose my coat during my stay but it was returned to me following further enquiry made by my friend. I'm very grateful for this. I would highly...

Everything about this hotel exceeded expectations. For starters the staff is superb. They were nothing but friendly and helpful. Even individuals who seemed a little cold opened up when spoken to. The manager is amazing. He visits the dinner table to make sure that your stay is up to par, and to answer any questions that you may have. Even...

Nothing was lacking for me and my two teen-aged kids during out stay at Hotel Ranga. But the outstanding service is worth mentioning. From the first moment, when we arrived with no luggage (Thank you Icelandair), the team at Ranga sprang into action to accommodate us in every possible way. Throughout the trip, the owner, Fred, was everywhere, making sure...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Ranga is a luxury countryside hotel and the only 4 star resort in South Iceland. It offers all the facilities and services of a modern resort. Located about an hour from Reykjavík between the towns of Hella and Hvolsvöllur, it lies just off the main road right in middle of South Iceland’s panoramic scenery. The resort is built in log-cabin style and has through the years acquired an excellent reputation for its food, accomodation and service. It is the first Icelandic hotel to become a member of the prestigious international hotel chain Great Hotels of the World. A celebrity hot spot, top honeymoon destination and favorite hotel amongst Icelanders, Hotel Rangá also offers great facilities for small business meetings, weddings and social gatherings. One cannot miss feeling welcome entering its warm interior where relaxed countryside feeling meets the professional ambition of pleasing its entire clientel. Upon entering Hotel Ranga, you will be greeted by a towering 10-foot tall polar bear named Hrammur that resides in the lobby. He is a favorite model for photographers and is definitely one of the most pictured objects in Iceland. This is just a prelude to the cozy ambience that you will encounter that vibrates throughout the hotel. Hótel Rangá was upgraded and renovated in 2007/2008 and presently has 51 luxuriously decorated rooms and suites. It also features an acclaimed riverside restaurant, a lounge and bar, 2 upstairs meeting rooms, a game room, massage facilities and three much beloved outdoor hot tubs heated with geothermal water - where there is an excellent chance to view the fantastic northern lights during September through April. ... more   less
