We spent New Year's in Iceland 2015/2016 and had the most amazing time of our lives. Hotel Ranga was one of the highlights. We were able to see the Northern Lights both nights and splurged and got one of the themed suites for our stay. Our 12 year old daughter had a wonderful time as well. Be prepared that food...

we stayed at hotel ranga as part of a package with discover the world tour company. The hotel was fabulous, lovely warm rooms, great food and good service. It wasn't cheap, but then you get what you pay for! We had a standard room which had a jacuzzi bath which was great after a day outdoors. We never got to...

After a day of Quad Biking and a relaxed drive out to Hotel Ranga, we were looking forward to catching the Northern lights and having a glass or two of wine in the hot tub. Luckily for us, the weekend that we were there, the restaurant offered the Christmas taster menu. The food was fantastic, and a wide selection of...

Staying in the Arctic Suite was super fun - black and white everything. The views from the room stunning over the quiet tranquil river. The bed was comfortable - the room space to spread out was outstanding. Service first class and the restaurant was one of the best and to find it. The front desk were super helpful to finding...

We booked mainly on the restaurant reviews and for the northern lights wake up calls, but the experience was great from arrival to departure. We stayed in the Africa room, which was clean and spacious, our daughter loved it, it had a balcony with a spectacular view of the river meandering past the rear of the hotel. The staff, both...

Booked extended weekend, staying at the Ranga. Fantastic stay. We had the Japanese style junior suite, different but would want to try the African suite next time. From arriving to leaving we where made to feel special, as I am sure so did all the other guests. Fridirik and the rest of the team work really hard and go the...

This is a wonderful hotel near Hella, Iceland. The staff is friendly. The owner greets guests at breakfast and dinner and the accommodations are well kept. The restaurant is top notch as well. They didn't get the accolade of best resort hotel in Europe for nothing. If staying in the winter (or anytime other than summer) the northern lights wake...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Ranga is a luxury countryside hotel and the only 4 star resort in South Iceland. It offers all the facilities and services of a modern resort. Located about an hour from Reykjavík between the towns of Hella and Hvolsvöllur, it lies just off the main road right in middle of South Iceland’s panoramic scenery. The resort is built in log-cabin style and has through the years acquired an excellent reputation for its food, accomodation and service. It is the first Icelandic hotel to become a member of the prestigious international hotel chain Great Hotels of the World. A celebrity hot spot, top honeymoon destination and favorite hotel amongst Icelanders, Hotel Rangá also offers great facilities for small business meetings, weddings and social gatherings. One cannot miss feeling welcome entering its warm interior where relaxed countryside feeling meets the professional ambition of pleasing its entire clientel. Upon entering Hotel Ranga, you will be greeted by a towering 10-foot tall polar bear named Hrammur that resides in the lobby. He is a favorite model for photographers and is definitely one of the most pictured objects in Iceland. This is just a prelude to the cozy ambience that you will encounter that vibrates throughout the hotel. Hótel Rangá was upgraded and renovated in 2007/2008 and presently has 51 luxuriously decorated rooms and suites. It also features an acclaimed riverside restaurant, a lounge and bar, 2 upstairs meeting rooms, a game room, massage facilities and three much beloved outdoor hot tubs heated with geothermal water - where there is an excellent chance to view the fantastic northern lights during September through April. ... more   less
