We have stayed for two nights in December and had a wonderful experience. The room (standard double) was very nice, clean, comfortable, quiet and had a beautiful view. All staff were very approachable and professional which created a very friendly and warm atmosphere. The hotel also had a very cosy feel to it which made our stay much nicer and...

We stayed at the Hotel Ranga for one night. The hotel was pretty busy when we were there, but considering it's the only hotel for miles, it's not that surprising. The hotel itself is nice, with a lodge/cabin feel, and the lobby area has some rustic touches. Our room was fairly basic, but met our needs for one night. We...

This hotel is more like a country lodge, with a cabin-like feel to the rooms. It's the only one in the area, so there really aren't very many (or any) alternatives to stay in that region, but the lodge is very comfortable at least. Cheap it is not, even for Icelandic standards it is very expensive. The views of the...

This was booked as a surprise for my husbands 40th birthday and it did not disappoint. Had 3 lovely nights here, food and surroundings all lovely. Hot tubs were lovely to relax in also, we were the mad 2 that did brave the cold to get in them! Staff all very attentive and helpful. We got a glimpse of the...

We (my wife celebrating her 40th and another couple) spent one night at the Ranga. Fabulous service on arrival, straight into the hot tub with a complimentary glass of wine, with snow and ice all around, the hot tub was lovely and warm. Then to 20 yard dash back to our room in the freezing cold. We had a table...

Terrific lodge in the country...... Fantastic place to see and photograph the Northern Lights! Comfortable rooms, great food and wonderful hospitality! Were part of photographic workshop with Ira Block, Nat Geo photographer extraordinaire! We went into the fields near the hotel with a little lighting from the hotel and also had the beautiful pond to use in our astrophotography experience....

The location is nice. Hotel rooms are a noisy. The dining area upstairs is cozy. The older male restaurant manager (or hotel owner) was rude. The front desk staff seemed rude too. The food was good. Overpriced for the subpar service.

Great hotel in the depths of Iceland. Great customer service and the food was amazing. They had a Christmas buffet meal during our stay with 67 different dishes! Comfortable beds and rooms. We had a room facing the river with a jacuzzi outside and it had a beautiful view. Pool table and chess to relax with pre-dinner. An astrology talk...

This is defiantly the place to stay. Perfectly placed to see the Northern Lights and stunning food. Book with dinner included if can. Every meal was delicious and we looked forward to dinner every day. It is an excellent base to see all the important southern sites. We did the golden circle from here and as arrived back at dusk...

We spent 3 nights recently at this hotel and were very well looked after. Cutting to the chase, it was the food that impressed me the most. The standard of cooking in the Restaurant at Dinner is exceptionally high, certainly its fine dining, maybe even close to a Michelin star. The dishes are well thought out and executed to perfection....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Ranga is a luxury countryside hotel and the only 4 star resort in South Iceland. It offers all the facilities and services of a modern resort. Located about an hour from Reykjavík between the towns of Hella and Hvolsvöllur, it lies just off the main road right in middle of South Iceland’s panoramic scenery. The resort is built in log-cabin style and has through the years acquired an excellent reputation for its food, accomodation and service. It is the first Icelandic hotel to become a member of the prestigious international hotel chain Great Hotels of the World. A celebrity hot spot, top honeymoon destination and favorite hotel amongst Icelanders, Hotel Rangá also offers great facilities for small business meetings, weddings and social gatherings. One cannot miss feeling welcome entering its warm interior where relaxed countryside feeling meets the professional ambition of pleasing its entire clientel. Upon entering Hotel Ranga, you will be greeted by a towering 10-foot tall polar bear named Hrammur that resides in the lobby. He is a favorite model for photographers and is definitely one of the most pictured objects in Iceland. This is just a prelude to the cozy ambience that you will encounter that vibrates throughout the hotel. Hótel Rangá was upgraded and renovated in 2007/2008 and presently has 51 luxuriously decorated rooms and suites. It also features an acclaimed riverside restaurant, a lounge and bar, 2 upstairs meeting rooms, a game room, massage facilities and three much beloved outdoor hot tubs heated with geothermal water - where there is an excellent chance to view the fantastic northern lights during September through April. ... more   less
